No its ISA Gives exactly the same error still ? When mad 16 gives error about "Invalid argument" ehen where are the arguments or parameters. Where can I see them or modify them ? I started 10 with 2.4 kernel and have sound just without any problems. those errors are under 2.6 kernel.

Hi I did fresh install of 10CE and updated everithing Now I get a problem that I have no sound I have an 16 bit soundblaster Previously I was using 9.1 and had no problem it was loading the mad16 module modprobe mad16 gives the following result: FATAL: Error inserting mad16 (/lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/kernel/sound/oss/mad16.ko.gz): Invalid argument I would be glad if anyone helps out or give some guidance to put my sound working under 10 also Klemm

Hi I insalled 10CE on a free partition to give it a testdrive before I switch my box in whole. Installed, got all the available updates that I ever find (really lot of it) Now it seemed fine, but when I started to add applications like Mozilla, Sylpheed and so on... They do not get listed in the KDE menu. I also installed Gnome... but that one does not have a menu at all (really nothing) What is wrong? or how to fix it. Klemm

Exactly The buttons do nothing. (when I load the nvidia drivers ) I may glide the buttons form one edge to another without any change. Same applies with any video player, together with "nvidia" graphics module they work with original "nv" driver, but then everything is very slow.

Hello I used to use xine to look dvds and divix In Gxine config, there are buttons to change the Saturation, Contrast & Brihtness Those settings work when I have "NV" driver set in XFree config After I installed Nvidia driver and did set the driver to "nvidia" I am not able to change the Saturation, Contrast & Brihtness in Gxine (nor does it work in any other player like aviplay, mplayer) Are there some settings I have not noticed ? Or ist it hopless to change them with nvidia driver ? I have an old 400CeleronMMX and RIVA TNT card. running MDK 91. and just setting up 92 on the other partition. I remeber that last time I could change the britness was in Mandrake 8,2 and that was the last time I remeber. Well could someone have the NVIDIA kernel and drivers source from 2 years ago. Just though that Nvidia probably does not have the support for my card eny more so I could compile the kernel drivers from a 2-3 years old sorce file when my card was still supported. Any suggestions, advise how to put it work properly. ?? Kristjan

I have been usind Suse for a week now. First was really impression about a clean and nice look. It also did configure all the hadware (sound and modem) that Mandrake had problems with. Now after a week I use my Mandrake again. I have been playing and testing ~8 different ditros in last half a year, but still I think nothing beats Mandrake, together with urpmi and the MCC.

Now maybe one day I shall reconsider upgrading the XFree to the newer version .. just maybe. And maybe its already tonight because you have pointed some sources for the rpm-s that I trust at the moment more than Mandrakes Updates. Did they fire the QA team ? Kristjan

Hi Upgraded yesterday the XFree 86 to the one that was on the MandrakeUpdates server. Today when I start my computer the X does not start, When I log in and run startx then I get a error execve failed for /etc/X11/x erno 2 giving up xinit: No such file or directory (erno 2): Unable to connect to X server Now what ? I need some help here I have mandrake 9.1 and my X was working perfectly until now. Kristjan

OK I just thought that there is a comon way (and easy) tho handle the localization like translating the file, converting the file to some format and and put it into some directory... Hi To make my mom stay in Linux I have to make the GRAMPS in our language. She asked me already to get her a box with windows because then she would use another program instead of Gramps, that exists in our language (estonian). Now what are the points to go through to make a translation ( I know ine step - translate). I have the .po file and its partly translated already, But when I finish with that How can I get the translation active on my installation ? What else is needed after a tranlsated .po file? an other database as a backend is a normal (natural) choice As the only place what the user sees in the current database are the forms or as sayd here: GUI So in this I see that knoda is defenately the closest where it can almost be built on the form level. I am already dloading it to see what it is capable of. Aquafold is a nise app. and serves more like a database admistrators tasks. Well, not a easy job. When you would start a database app. from a scratch then what would be the startpoint or what applications youd use for building the GUI, while using for instance MySql in the backend.

Hi I am about to end a big dilemma I have I haven't found (jet) any equivalent for MS Access in Linux. So the second choice is to to reproduce the database somehow under Linux. Now what to use. I really haven't been working with anything else than msAccess. The database (under MSAccess) consists of ~40 user forms / 60 queries / 15 tables of its own and 30 tables linked to Informix database.... And a lot of visual basic code (about 100 or more functions). it serves on extracting and analyzing some data from the backbone database of a big ERP systems. (and I made this) Hmm.. and I want to port it to Linux. Actually there is no big driver behind that, except the one that I want to do it. Also maybe to prove to myself that MSAccess is not the only way to quickly and easily build a database application. Well I know nothing about C or any other language. What you folks suggest ? Klemm

Thanks Actually I did have php and apache-mod-php installed, but as I lately understood the config was still messed a bit. I cleaned the etc/httpd config files and made a reinstall for them.. then it did pick up things correctly. K.

Hi I tried to install Apache on my localhost under mdk 9,1, but somehow miss some configurations as it does not go for PHP. in 9.0 the installation went out of the box. Now starting the page It asks if I want to download the file or open it ? Can you give me some directions to look at.. I feel like blinded as I have already looked over all the apache configurations for several times. ---------- I want to use Apache 1,3 because there are some conflicts between Apache 2 and php some versions... the page gets messed or gives errors. I have made the sites ready under windows 2K and tested them on both Apache 1,3 and 2 ... there was only mess with 2 while a perfectly functional page under 1,3. I tried several ways and searched the forums, but the cue against it did not cure my site. I had 2,0 up in 9,1 and faced the same problem as under W2K (a messed page).. so back to apache 1,3 I need to go. Many thanks for advise

Has anyone sent Mandrake a bugreport... I was starting to summarise mine. Looks there are lot of problems with ADLS & 9.1 Final... There would be probably more coplaining if the ones who have upgraded and use adsl could get online. :lol: (if tehy use Mandrake at all for now) I am using an external adsl connected to eth ... took a week to make it work (because there was a typo in the conf file, made by drakconnect) :x i was almost ready to kill 9.1 and remain with 9,0

Hello Folk for now I have a working 9.1 tha tis also connected to internet. Thanks for many advises. On the fresh install of 9.1 I used exactly the same configuration. and nothing happens. I got is connected with adsl-setup and adls-start , but mcc drake(whatever) mixed thing up and connection faild. In the wizard it asks if I want to use lan or adsl for connection...., but it does not change anything.... latest conf i used in 9,0 eth0 -> serving lan with ip 192.168.1.1 eth1 -> connected to adsl modem (card ip 10.0.0.10) Internet connection sharing on. using gateway 10.0.0.10, shorewall on. same rules in 9,1 did not work with fresh install. So as I menwhile degraded to 9,0 as I had some work to be done. After I had some hours spare to play again and made again upgrade to 9.1. As my fresh 9,0 isntallation was pure installation without any twaking I had no problems with upgrade. Also the connection is working now in 9,1 (as it was configured under 9,0) ... So my conclusion is that in 9,1 the wizard just does miss some minor settings. Klemm excuse my poor (and buggy) language

Ye, that what I remember also form 9.0 I had an opportunity to choose how I am connected... there it just writes that connection type - LAN. thats it. I have gone through the wizards several ( more that 15) times tried one way and then tried other way.. made different configurations .... Nothing changes there. So today I go home and remove the nice asscicker 9.1 and go back to 9.0. Or maybe see how RH or Deby works... Then I take out my old 6G HD and insert it into the box and install the 9.1 back to a temp HD and go on with that. Shitt happens ... but why it has to be me, I had a welltuned and working system with 9.0 ....

Hi Second try went ok form me when i made clean install. First try (upgrade) naturally ended without graphics as because of Nvidia drivers. Now I still have a problem get connected to internet. eth0 connected to external ADSL modem. eth1 connected to LAN. Opened shorewall totally to make sure it wont disturb, but jet NoGo. In MCC it says that connection type is LAN, and I dont even see any option to change it.. in 9.0 I had no problem to get connected (using ppp0) No matter if I use expert modes or not there is no change in connection setting. Now what ? how to make it connected. Actually I have made a backup from my 9.0 /etc directory but i am not very used to the command line and files... difficulties to understand those. Still can I overwrite the /etc/ppp directory with 9.0 setting, or shall it cause another conflict. Or does it solve something ? I would apprechiate any advise on that klemm

Stupid question but How I can display a popup message in another box. Well I actually use Putty to connect to my Mandrake Box while myself working with my laptop (W2K) Sometimes I want to send a message that would popup in the middle of the screen to the user behind MandrakeBox. Any hints

I had already a feeling of being very close. I took the src.rpm from coocer and rebuilt them ans instaled. Now if I issue 'sane-find-scanner' I get a better result found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x011d [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:001:002 also scanimage -L device `plustek:libusb:001:002' is a Epson Perfection 1260/Photo USB flatbed scanner I have scanner listed in the lsmod results I dont have any drivers listed in result of cat /proc/bus/usb/devices and any app says that "No Device available". and not able to scan anything still. I tried with plustek and epson in the dll.conf. and also made the changes in the xxx.conf files as were suggested.

I'm on half way on 'making' the backends now. looks right that I need to do so. What about all those dependances. I have a lot of those where it claims braking the depandances when removing the sane packages?

Ok So I did 'modprobe scanner' (did rmmod scanner before that, just in any case to unload the previous.) but nothing happens. result of the 'cat /proc/bus/usb/devices' remains the same where driver=(none) Any application just say that no device available. what you mean under sane-backends (like xsane So the driver is not loaded. ... hmm what makes it load, what is stopping it ? Should I see also any activity under /dev/usb/ ? like /dev/usb/scanner0 (at least I dont) the sane version 1.0.9... my scanner 'Epson 1260 Photo' is not listed in the MCC scanner list. does it have anything to do here ? sane 1.0.11 states that this scanner works and is stable, but I haven't found suitable rpms for MDK9.0 jet (rebuilding from Cookers src ended with error) I'm going to sleep now (its 11 here in Estonia) You have been alrady big help.
