  1. Hi, With the default applications that come wint mandrake I can't play audio cds... the file starts playing, the progress bar is moving but no sound is outputed (yes the sound works cuz I can hear the system sounds and I can listen to mp3). Now, I've installed XMMS and it's working fine, I just can't figure it out how to use it to play audio cds, I tried to check the official webpage for that and it was on the faq but I still can't understand what I have to do, I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
  2. alright, thanks a lot ;)
  3. what if it's index.php or index.asp? am I making too manu connections? lol... sorry... but thanks for the help I guess about this we are done... thanks a lot ;)
  4. I run KDE 3.2 and mandrake 10.0 official... the icon does not appear when I plug it in... running the command: ls /dev/sda* here's what I get: /dev/sda@ I navigated through konqueror to /dev/ adn there is no folder called sda the closest one is sd and listing that one I get: c0b0t0u0@
  5. I thin I did what you jsut told me not to lol.... my username in mandrake is "nazgulled" so I tried this: rm -rf /home/nazgulled/.Trash/ it didn't worked so I did this: rm -rf /home/nazgulled/Desktop/Trash/ and then the trahs folder was gone... I deleted a test file and a folder was created in the destkop saying trash and the command "empty trash bin" was on the right click so I think it's ok... but... the icons are not the same, it's a folder icon and doesn't change when it's full, how can I fix that? ps.: and just in case I need to use it again how can I delete the contents of the folder using the rm -rf and not the whole folder? ======== EDIT ========= forget it, just rebooted and the icons are back... but answer the p.s. if you please... thanks for all the help so far :)
  6. what if the link is something like: www.something.com or www.something.com/somefolder/ will it work?
  7. I think I deleted something as root in a console, but does that matter? that goes to the trash bin also? I just followed the instructions on the INSTALL file and it said to delete something and 'make install' as root, thats the only thing I did.... I'll test that tomorrow, i'm in windows now and I must go to bed :P thanks a lot, i'll report back when I try it ;)
  8. I can't mount it :( I can't find a way to create a mount point for the flashdisk...
  9. check the screenshot... what must I do to empty it? [moved from Installing Mandriva by spinynorman]
  10. thanks, but won't that just work for html files? if I follow a link in an msn client, it will be opened in firefox?
  11. Is there such thing in mandrake? I've installed firefox and if there is some way to make it the default browser for pages and not the kde browser (can't spell it lol and i'm on windows now so I can't check the name...) a friend sent me a link on msn and I wanted it to open on firefox but it wasn't like that.... so, if it's possible, how can I set firefox to be the default browser?
  12. MCC is like the command prompt in windows? in other words, a console in linux? cuz in windows I jsut have to plug them in and it will be detected automatically, I plugged it in in linux and nothing happen, os I just have to type that in the console everytime I want to use it right? but 2 things I didn't understand: 1) "The easiest thing is to tell MCC not to mount it automatically, but to allow a user to mount it. The options for this are user, noauto(...)" 2) "(after the mount point is created, it can be whatever you want)" I know what is to mount a drive cuz this is not my first time but the last time I used linux was for a few days some years ago so I didn't learn that much and I can't remember what I'lve learned, sorry.... thanks for your time.
  13. Is it possible to use under mandrake? Any special procedures to have before it works? How to mount it? What about the filesystem? If anyone could answer this and more questions that I may ahve forgot... it would be nice ;) thanks in advance
  14. that wouldn't work (at least for me), after the installation and the frist time I was starting mandrake... it got to a aprt saying something about usb controllers and the startup froze there... I know ahve the option for usb legacy drivers, disabled and 2 adapters in the mouse and keyboard... I'll leave like this for now...
  15. ok never mind... I went into the bios and there was an option saying USB Legacy Drivers wich I had set to "All Devices" so I set it to "disable" and tryed once more and it worked... I couldn't click on enter to procced but I just waited a few seconds and it started... the mouse/keyboard only started to function when the setup initialized... I've set "All devices" again and I hope linux works that way... it is installed but haven't test it yet... Why? cuz now I have a new problem lol... more of that in a new topic to not mix things... thanks for all the help guys ;)
  16. I was able to pass the screen in wich the installation hang but I did not installed mandrake (yet) because I don't like the solution to my problem... I turned out that I can't have any usb device plugged in... I unplugegd the webcam and the printer than I used an adapater (as gooch said, thanks) for the mouse and other for the keyboard and the problem was gone... But I don't like that... what if I can't use mandrake propery after the installation? and that way the install will not detect my printer and/or webcam (don't know if the setup does anything about the webcam [even lmandrake] but I know about the printer cuz the last time I installed a linux system he asked something about my printer), but I want to use everything in usb... if anyones knows something... and gooch, if you can tell me if you can run mandrake without the adapter, would be nice ;) if you can, please test it, thanks.
  17. well... I'll try and then report back something...
  18. hum... I have an adapter for that... I might give it a try but I can't test it now... though I ahve one question for you... after the installation, you are using mandrake with the adpater on the mouser or without it?
  19. the media supports 52x write speed... what do you think burning in disc-at-once mode, would be better than track-at-once?
  20. I have Mandrake 10.0 Powerpack Official.... but just the first 3 cds... - Tried to boot with the second cd, now on the same screen a message appeared asking me from where did I want to install linux from, but the system hanged anyway. - I have 4 usbs devices conencted: Printer, Webcam, Mouse, Keyboard, I've unpluged the printer and webcam and still no sucess - Tried to typing "linux noapci nodma" in the F1 prompt but it also didn't work. md5sum is just to check the files right? I haven't donwloaded the file md5 but i'll tro and verify the files... The media sued to burn, I think it's good, I never had problems... Anyway, this was the settings I used to record the .iso images: - Write » ticked of course - Finalize CD (No further writing possible!) » ticked - Write Speed » 40x (6.000 KB/s) - Write method » Track-at-once - Number of copies » 1 » Justlink ticked =======EDIT======= just verifided the files with the md5 file and the ashes are correct...
  21. Hi, I'm havin this problem trying to install linuxe: The computer hangs in the very beggining of the installation, actually, I don't even reach to the installation screen. This is what I do: I insert CD1 into my dvd drive (I tried in the cd-rw drive but the result was the same) and then the computer boots from the cd, I'm presented with a menu with 2 options (F1 or ENTER) in wich I choose ENTER to start the installation... A black screen with a logo on the top left corner and with text scrolling down appears and after that I get to another black screen with 2 blue bars (on at the top and one at the bottom, the top one has yellow for text and the bottom one white)wich they say: Top bar: Welcome to Mandrake Linux (10.0) Mar 29 2004 10:17:15 Bottom bar: <ALT-F1> for here, <ALT-F2> to see the logs, <ALT-F4> for kernel msg. And now the computer is stoped and I can't do anything besides a reset... It doesn't matter what I press on the keyboard, nothing responds... How can this be fixed? I can tell you one more thing though... I tried to boot froma floppy instead and now I got a little bit far, on the same screen (the last one with the 2 bars) a few messages poped up in the center of the screen pretty quickly and then the bottom bar disappeared and the computer hanged. My computer specs are these: - P4 2.8 HT - MSI Neo2-LS - 2x256Mb DDR400MHz (Liner Mode) - GeForce 4 Ti 4200 AGP 8X 128Mb DDR If you need to know anything else, just ask, this was what I remembered of at the moment of typing...
