I've just checked fstab and everything is correct. Any ideas why I'm getting this kernel panic?
-
Hi, thanks for that info - but it installed fine with ReiserFS.
Only the problem is when I boot into Mandriva I get this: Please appen a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions: Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown block(0,0)
I'm now trying to boot from live cd on mandriva again, but getting a billion SquashFS errors.
I'll now try and boot into Ubuntu live cd, my 3rd favourite linux distro, and see if I can use Pinkdakoe's method there.

Thanks for the reply. Right, I reinstalled I repartitioned my hdd.
Now I'm getting this error when trying to mount my Partition:
An error occured
mounting partition UUID=0b771208-deba-4899-a298-22e50238277a in directory /mnt/install failed.
And get this popup:
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
I've never had this error before. Anybody know why?
EDIT: Seemed to be a problem with ext3 filesystem, I've switched to ReiserFS.

Well now it does boot, after wiping the entire Win7 and Mandriva Partition...
Is life always this hard...?

Hi there,
Recently I installed Win7 on a seperate partition - everything went smoothly, and it obvious removed grub.
I know how to restore grub via live cd.
So I got out my Mandriva 2009 live cd and booted up - strangely it didnt work - so I burned a fresh copy.
I tried again. However it wanted me to 'repair filesystem' and I'm stuck here.
Its not a problem with my burners, because any I've tried several. It's not a problem with my .iso image since its the same one I used to install Mandriva in the first place.
Help?!

Hi, thanks for the useful reply. It said that I couldn't use localhost - so I change it - it worked and then at the last step said the parameters need changing. Any ideas?

Hi there,
Yes, I am fully aware of the risks of running as root. I login everyday as root, to get things done - I'm using Linux in this case for experimenting (servers etc), and to be frank, I couldn't care if Tux grew laser guns and destroyed my linux partition - it's easy enough to re-install.
If I was using it for home/office purposes (eg documents) then I wouldn't log in as root, I have linux on other computers, one of which is a home intranet server, - and only touch root when absolutely necessary.
Now I have to eat some forum members. ;)

Thanks, although I did to a search and nothing turned up.
EDIT: seems most of the command are for KDE, and I have gnome. Also I can login as root, just want the added bonus of actually not having to type root out.

Hi, I can login to root fine - but its not a listed user on the login box. How can I add it to the list?
Thanks
(Anyone who tells me to not login as root will be eaten alive.)

Bind

Hi there,
I have Mandriva 2009.0.
All my computers are connected to the internet by a wireless router.
I have apache, mysql, php, perl, bind, phpmyadmin, webmin and sendmail on my laptop server.
What I want to to do is setup my laptop to be a DNS server with a domain. I want my laptop to be still connected to the internet, but so that only computers in my household to view my laptop. This is fine so far. I can browse to 192.168.1.29 and access my server without anybody else seeing except other computers in my household. How do I setup my laptop to be a DNS server with a domain such as laptopserver.com, and no one else can see it except household computers and still receive the internet?
I have tried several tutorials, and can't seem to get the domain working. A full tutorial would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kiran.

La Ora

Hi,
I've just installed Mandriva 2010.0.
How do I remove La Ora completely, and use the oxygen theme for scrollbars, buttons etc? I did try and do it from the KDE control center, which only changed it in some KDE applications and not non KDE applications (like openoffice)?
Regards,
Kiran
