Thanks for answering guys. Got a working system with Mandriva and windows!

Trying to install Mandriva One 2010 KDE. One harddrive partitioned with three versions of windows on their partitions and two free partitions (NTFS). Want to have Mandriva on one of the free partitions (40gb). I've come so far as the part where I choose the partition and indicate that it has to be /. (Believe that that is the right sign, not sure what it measns. However, I then have to assign a swap partition. Firstly I have no idea how to do that and secondly I want the swap partition to be in the same partition of fourty gb and again have no idea how to do that. Windows partitions I would really like to keep where they are. Any help is most welcome.

I think I found the eanswer in "install software". Before it kept on asking me for the cd's, but after updating the urpmi it seems to work.

Just downloaded & installed Mandrake 10.1. Surprised it works so well. Found all hardware (or at least it seems so). Now I downloaded only the first cd and want to install anything else from the server. I found out how urpmi works and it really works well, but I can only use this if I know the exact name of the package I want to install. How can I see what's available so I can choose? Any/all tips, tricks, secrets of the trade most welcome!

I think it worked. How do I find out if it did?

Thanks Arctic. My cpu is a celeron 1300 so I usually choose 586. I wasn't sure there is a 586 install and thought 386 was kind of general even for 586. Will try to find a 586 though and try again. thanks again for the speedy answer!

Tried to install macromedia flash player according to instructions: Mandrake Linux Mandrake uses urpmi for automatic package management. You can alternatively use the rpmdrake GUI interface. You must add this repository to your urpmi sources before you can use it. Hi there, Surely this must have been covered over a million times but for one reason or another it keeps on giving problems. Tried to follow the faq and install instructions, noithing works. Wnat to install edonkey. Downloaded core and gui. Dumped both in a directory called eDonkey. I think I succeeded to untar it. According to the networking faq I then have to write: ./donkey_s_44 That doesn't work not even with adapted numbers. According to some other howto or whatever I have to do a ./configure. That doesn't work either. Someone out there who can cover some basics here? Would be much appreciated.

As if the communication between user and os isn't hard enough. Anybody who knows what this means? I'm trying to update Mandrake 10rc to mandrake 10c. Changed the update source to the cooker's address. Downloading starts and one thinks to have it knicked only to get this gabberish at the end of the download. Did I do something wrong, is it just nagging, bug or what? anyone who can help?

Hi guys. I have a bit of a problem. Whenever I reboot into a different os my internet connection won't work. First boot no problem, every reboot that follows into whichever os: problem. When working in WinXP, before rebooting I do an ipconfig/release *kal* (may be language-specific), I reboot e.g. into Xandros and I have no problem. When rebooting back into Windows however: no internet connection. Is there a ipconfig /release equivalent for Linux if so: what is it? Is there another solution? I have adsl (router) and use dhcp. All tips/ideas/suggestions most welcome.
