  1. Man that really sux. I have been in a similar situation with DirecTV. They had a company that handled the selling of THEIR equipment but when I had a problem they said, "oh that company doesn't represent us just sells our stuff. It isn't DirecTV's fault." Of couse the other company said, "We only sell equipment not service that is DirecTV's fauilt." Well about a month worth of time and a butt load of aggravation I finally talked to someone in the president's office of DirecTV and got it handled.

My point is this: Even though it may have been Mandrake's payment company who messed up Mandrake it seems could have still had better customer service. He got a recording and could not talk to a person for help. That should not happen. Here is one of my problems with how I see that Linux systems are run. With it being open source and stuff who in the end is responsible? I admit I don't know all the ends and out of it but...this seems to be one of the disadvantages to the system.

I am sure glad they got it fixed for you though, man.

  2. I realize that you can dowload it for free. But how the heck do they think they are going to make money if that is possible. Understand folks I am completely new to Linux. Also (please don't burn me at the stake or anything) I am not a MS hater like some folks. I do believe they have done some things wrong, but. Anyway I may have seen the wrong prices. I can go get Windows XP for about 100 us. Just about 50 more than the linux by your prices. Or I can have Windows (so they say) for free when I buy a computer with it on there.

"oh god please don't let heathen ole me be burned by the holy linux users! I pray to you have mercy on my soul"

    Just kidding folks! :cheeky:

  3. I realize this may be a horrible question. But here goes. I currently have deleted Mandrake from my computer (not forever). But anyway I did this because it was not installed really correctly the first time (through no fault of the wonderful person who did it for me). But I am wanting to install it again. I have the cds that were first used for the first try at it (well not really I left them at my mom's for now). I just wanted to know where is (if any) there an easy site to download the latest version of Mandrake Linux. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

  4. Yes I own NVW and to me it is one of the best. You at least don't have to subscribe to be able to play online. But also you are right veedub, if you don't have friends you seem to end up playing alone anyway. Which is the whole reason I wanted to play online, so I wouldn't have to play alone. DUH!! But most of the kids playing have geeked out characters and they just run around not caring about other players or just playing the game the way it was meant to be. But having a couple of friends that want to play makes it much better. Also the other cool thing about NVW they don't have to complain about piracy because they do a really good job of protecting theirselves. So their game shouldn't get to expensive. Of course it isn't cheap. I agree though subscribtion is ridculous!!

  5. I believe Steve was able to do it with someone else's computer though. For some reason though that did not work with mine. He had XP too. I will have to get with him more than likely but just wondering if anyone here had any ideas. Thank you.

  6. Okay folks I need help. I am trying to make a dual boot system with one hard drive. I just want to try out the linux for awhile then I will get a second drive and install on it. I need to know how to defrag windows all the way down. For some reason I can't get all of it down. Steve thought he knew how to but it did not work for me. I have windows xp so can anyone help. And please in layman's terms I am new at this. Thanks for the patience.

  7. Okay forgive me but I forget how to install. My local guy who helped me get started in linux has vowed to take two months off. He says that is why he bookmarked this page for me. Nah I'm sure he would help but would rather not HAVE to ask him. So could you refresh me on it.

  8. Hey obviously I am new at linux so here goes. I want a better player than Totem, I hate totem. Any ideas? I run a dual system (windows and linux) All my music files are on the windows side. Any way I can transfer those over to the linux side? I love windows media player so if there is one that is comparable to that please let me know.
