  1. No; Just for home use. These workstation are actually graphic workstations for image processing work. I thought I could get more processing power by adding an extra dual pentium chis to the mother board. Ther is actually an extra bay there for an extra dual chip. Any advice? Thanks, Art
  2. Hi: I got two dual pentium 800 Mhz computers from my cousin. Can I take one of those dual pentium CPUs and stick it in a single computer and make it Quadro Pentium PC. Or shoudl I just network it. Thanlks for any advice. Art
  3. HI: I was trying to use the Add//Remove software programs in K-menu to get some additional programs loaded, but I get a notice everytime I try saying. freetype.1.en not found, please load, fontconfig.* not found, and a few other stuff. I cannot proceed further. What should I do? Actually my desktop looks good now, I loaded my TTFs, I am looking for Latex where can I find it for loading. I still need an external modem. Can you also let me know how to remove Win2K , should I just reformat that partition, and let Linux remain. Thanks, Art
  4. Hi Folks: I have loaded TTFs into KDE ccontrol center through Font INstall, But I am unable to use themin applications, Menus etc. How can I use these fonts in my applications ? Also, Floppy drive reads only one floppy, only once. Thanks for your Help. Art
  5. Hi Folks: I manually changed the Xconfig file to change the driver from Trident to Vesa, now I can use the desktop. There are several problems still. 1. It does not recognize the Diamond sound Chip DTA1930 sound card. Even Win2K had problems with this. So no surprise. 2. I cannot find the Cdroms icons on the desktop, and Knoqueror wont read / identify the Cdroms. ? What should be put in the Desktop directory like /dev/fd is for Floppy. In harware wizard section CDroms are identified with unknown drivers. I have a Diamond DTA CD-Rom and Memorex CD-RW. Well the installation process read from the Cd-rom. 3. Strange problem with the Floppy, it reads the Floppy just once, If I change the floppy, the new floppy is not read again? Why. I want to load the Modem driver from Floppy and get on the net. Thanks all for your patient advice. Art
  6. Folks: I installed Mandrake 9.2 , but foolishly selected Trident Generic video adapter, now on first reboot, the screen flickers with horizontal lines. How can I change the video adapter before boot to vesa (which worked with Mandrake Move). What do I enter when the boot manager displays Linux / Windows. ? Thanks. Art
  7. Hello all: I burned Mandrake 9.2 on to Cds and went about the installation. It partitioned with 2G Linux and 200 MB swap partition and then went it gets to installation of packages I get a message saying " Not enough disk space on mount / " to install. What should I do to set this right. Thanks all, Art
  8. Thanks Gowator: I made some research,I have narrowed it down toMandrake and Knoppix (basically Debian on install) . I used Mandrake Move was quite impressed. I have some experience with Unix while at college, so I can handle command line commands etc. My only question is should I wait for the official relase of Mandrake 10.0 or go ahead and install 9.2. Thanks for your advice all along. Art
  9. Hi: I am planning on buying an external modem. I happen to lookup on Yahoo Shopping there is a pretty cheap one CenDyne ($13) they claim tha it works with Linux. Should I burn the latest 10.01 beta CDs or hold off till the offcial 10.0 are released? Art

The present modem is Intel MD563X which was Ambient/Cirrus Logic modem. I have MandrakeMove CD (9.2 v) will this install the OS. Or should I wait for 10.0 release? Thanks. Art
  11. Hello: I gather that Mandrake Linux is the suitable for people making a transition from Windows becoz of its ease. Is this true? Does one have to become a MandrakeClub member to download modem drivers, firewalls, security updates, and software updates? Thanks. Art
