  1. Thanks for the replies. I was afraid of that Gowator. But it's not just the home page it's all of the pages that have problems. It's going to be a lot of work to redo them.

Anon that's the way the text displays for me. It's because they put the <br> tags in the paragraph and the bottom part is fixed so it overlays. What a mess!

Opinion on changing the looks of the page. I like the live oak for the background on the home page but I'm not thrilled with the font colors. Suggestions for changes, additions, etc?

  2. I have to fix several errors on this web page (edit link removed)

The person who designed this page used a Windows program called Cool Page. There are several problems. The main one being that they put <br> in the paragraphs which besides being really stupid causes the text to display incorrectly. That won't be hard to fix. The mouseover for the ribbon isn't working and they used a different kind of coding than what I use for mouseovers so I'll have to work on that one. I'd like to get rid of the shockwave flash and I have free license to do what I want. For what little it adds to the page I think it's not worth the problems it can create. One thing I don't understand though, being the beginner that I am, is why the background image remains fixed in Opera but in Mozilla it tiles. Any ideas how to fix that? I'm really tempted to just start all over again and do it differently. WDYT? Also, anything else anybody sees that should be fixed?

Interesting note - I'm using the barter system on this one. I get x number of free horseshoings for my horse for the work I do.

  3. I'm trying to increase the visibility of a web site. I've read so much conflicting information regarding meta tags that I'm not sure what to believe. I went ahead and added them anyway and now I'm reading about using a Robot Meta Tag. Any advice? I've got to find someway for the search engines to find this site. Thanks!

  4. While doing a search for something else I came across this post http://mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?p=51089#51089  Sorry for not answering before. I try to read all the posts but sometimes it's too many to keep up with.

If you're still interested the reason I was disappointed with Kapital is because of it's limited features and the bugs! I only purchased it because of a promise to come out with a free upgrade version in February 2003 (ha!). Still waiting on that one. By limited features I mean that there is no function for exporting files, printing the register or even copying it. The biggest problem though is the reconcile feature. It doesn't pick up the ending balance from the previous statement, it picks up the actual ending balance in your register. So in order to balance I would have to create a false entry to make up the difference and then delete it when it was through. Not fun! I was so disappointed that I emailed Kapital and asked for a refund because of their failure to live up to their promise. They never even responded.

About two years ago I went looking for some good Linux financial software. I tried CBB (Check Book Balancer), a very limited, outdated program, Money Dance which from the new home page has obviously come a long way and finally went back to GnuCash. I've gotten used to it but I think double-entry bookkeeping is overkill. That's probably more than you wanted to know.

  5. Like I said in the other thread I was Linux only until I got this job. I have to have Windoze to run the software I need. There is no Linux equivalent, I spent a month trying to get it working with Wine and even contacted Netraverse about using Win4Lin (okay it's still using Windoze). The program won't even run with Win4Lin because it uses a HASP. I've tried everything and short of quitting my job (I NEED the money) I need my Windoze HD.

  6. I've been using bluefish although I'm still doing all my coding manually. As far as colors that can be tricky. Before I started coding myself I used Front Page (awful program btw) and I was surprised that when I used anything but IE it didn't look the same, especially the colors. Here's a link that might interest you http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/00/37/....html?tw=design It's rather lengthy but it helps to understand the differences with different browsers. If you check out the browser safe colors your color isn't listed in it.
