  1. As I posted in the Announcements forum, I've now added a number of language packs to the board. You can select one by going to the bottom left hand side of the page. I've also added something about the languages with a link to our translators on the portal page. I am also working on getting a mod that will allow people to register in their own language. If anyone has a suggestion for other languages, let me know and I will see what I can find.

  2. I have added 7 language packs for our non native English speakers. You can select one by looking at the bottom of the page on the left hand side. I am working with someone to create a mod that will allow people to register in their own language. I noticed in the Admin Control Panel that some people are already using them. I hope you find them useful. If there is a specific language that anyone wants let me know and I will see if I can find it.

    Thanks

  3. Actually I got everything configured but then ran into a problem with virtual hosts. It's supposed to work where you can set it up by name instead of ip address but it kept giving me a conflict and would only recognize one site at a time. I haven't given up but I just haven't had time to work on it lately.

  4. I use grub on my Debian laptop mainly because it was the default and it's fine. But I use lilo for everything else mainly because I started with lilo and it's really easy for me to understand and use. And writing lilo.conf for Gentoo is ridiculously simple. Unfortunately though for some reason Mandriva doesn't like me using lilo in Gentoo. It fails to boot completely. So I have to add Gentoo to Mandriva's lilo and then boot into Mandriva every time I build a new kernel in Gentoo. It's sort of a pain. Oh well!

  5. Phew. That is a load off my mind I can tell you.

Great stuff Mandriva    and thanks especially to adamw  who has worked hard at keeping all of us up to date on Mandriva happenings.

    Cheers. John.

Yes I quite like having adamw on the board. It's good to have the insight that comes directly from Mandriva itself. I hope he sticks around!

  6. debian:/home/mystified# route

ESSID is turned on. As far as MAC filtering I had to set up the wireless card using the mac address I got from ifconfig -a. I have it set so it will only connect from this mac address.

    Here it is:

    eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:CE:13:E2:08

    	  Interrupt:217 Memory:e2000000-e2002000

  7. tyme, it's showing 192.168.0.1 for eth0 but it shows nothing for eth1.

    ian, here it is.

    debian:/home/mystified# iwlist eth1 scan

  8. I already changed it in the network manager. After I plugged it in directly to the router it detected the new router but I still have no wireless.

    Here's my /etc/network/interfaces

    # The loopback network interface
    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback

    # The primary network interface
    allow-hotplug eth0
    iface eth0 inet dhcp

    iface eth1 inet dhcp
    wireless-essid barbara
    wireless-key xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    auto eth1

But I think it's having a problem with my wireless key which I copied and pasted directly from my router. I'm getting this message when I restart the network:

Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device eth1; Invalid argument.[

And when I fun ifconfig I get this:

    eth1 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:off/any
    	  Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated

  9. I posted on the Debian board and so far only one person has responded and it didn't help. I had to change out routers cause my old one kept losing my internet connection. My old one's ip was 192.168.1.1. My new one is 192.168.0.1. When I try and start my wireless network it tries to connect to the old router ip. My /etc/resolv.conf is set to the new router ip. I've change my wep encryption key in /etc/network/interfaces and in the router I set my dhcp server to my gentoo boxes ip. I've never run into this before and I have no idea how to fix it. I'd really appreciate some suggestions.

  10. Ok, I posted this on the Gentoo board and nobody could help. tyme is going to say gremlins again I know! Anyway, a couple of days ago I had to reboot and I got an error that composite had crashed twice and then another one saying that I had to enable composite in xorg by add the enable composite lines. Which of course I have. And I have composite as a use flag. Here's my xorg.conf.

There are no errors or warnings in my xorg.log. I have googled and haven't found anything. So, any ideas guys?

  11. Well I tried this:

    mystified@debian:~$ wodim dev
    wodim: No write mode specified.
    wodim: Asuming -tao mode.
wodim: Future versions of wodim may have different drive dependent defaults.
Device was not specified. Trying to find an appropriate drive...
    Detected CD-R drive: /dev/cdrw
    Using /dev/cdrom of unknown capabilities

    And it just hangs there.

There is no cdrkit and when I tried cdrecord --scandisk that didn't work. But I got this.

    wodim: Bad Option: --scandisk.
    Usage: wodim [options] track1...trackn

    Use wodim -help
to get a list of valid options.

    Use wodim blank=help
to get a list of valid blanking options.

    Use wodim dev=b,t,l driveropts=help -checkdrive
to get a list of drive specific options.

    Use wodim dev=help
to get a list of possible SCSI transport specifiers.
    mystified@debian:~$ wodim dev=help

    Transport name: sg
Transport descr.: Generic transport independent SCSI

    Target example: 1,2,0

    Transport name: RSCSI
    Transport descr.: Remote SCSI
    Transp. layer ind.: REMOTE:
    Target specifier: rscsi@host:bus,target,lun
    Target example: REMOTE:rscsi@host:1,2,0
    SCSI Bus scanning: supported
Open via UNIX device: not supported

I also tried this as user and root:

    mystified@debian:~$ wodim dev=b,t,l driveropts=help -checkdrive
    wodim: Invalid argument.
    Cannot open SCSI driver!
For possible targets try 'wodim --devices' or 'wodim -scanbus'.
For possible transport specifiers try 'wodim dev=help'.
For IDE/ATAPI devices configuration, see the file README.ATAPI.setup from
    the wodim documentation.
