  1. I've searched google, this forum, and several others I haunt. However, how can I tell what version of Linux I've installed without rebooting? Or, if the splash screen 'lies'.. Situation.. Need to resetup my Media using EZ Urpmi.. It asks for the version.. I've cusomized my splash and can't remember if it is 10.0, 10.1, Community? Official? Is there a BASH command? I know uname -a, however it does not say ther version.. This is what I get... Kernel info and such, 'unknown' version tho.... Thanks upfront, LinuxMWB [moved from Tips & Tricks by spinynorman]
  2. Thanks for all the help, i also am inclined to think it's a bug. I am using Thunderbird and it works like a champ. However, no exchange folders, but atleast I know i've my server settings correct. Thanks again, LinuxMWB
  3. Mandrake 10 Official.. Using Kmail.. Upon running Kmail it will fetch mail from the server, but no other time. I've set the interval for one minute, nothing, also the 'check mail in this folder' does NOTHING!!! I've emailed email to myself from yahoo, locally, and from other nodes on our network. nothing.. Tried to install Korn, but the one included in the distro was missing all kinds of deps???? dunno, it errored during install is all i really can say, and gave a deps list about as long as my arm... Anyhoo, ANY help would be grand. I tried evolution, however I MUST be able to have the folders and such from our Exchange server, and evolution does not do that at default. I think there is a pay-to-play plug in for it though.. Thanks again for the help. Mike

    tv card :/

I realize this is zero help.. However researching that device i found that WinDOS has boggles with it also... I've a Happauge PCI card that's about 6 years old, and it works flawless with all distros I've tried so far.. I am sure you could get one cheap, since it was not a high dollar card when new..
  5. 15? Seriously, though; I know of 3 people now who have experienced the same problem with the newest firmware update for that particular router. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ALL IS AOK!!!! XFdrake, did not work. However I remember that; in a drunken haze, that when I did an UPDATE I checked the 'all' box.... it installed a new kernel source... ooppss.. I did a uname -a and URPI'd the PROPER source.... Reinstalled nVidia driver, copied my saved XF86Config-4.. ALL AOK!!! Router.. Two machines; MDK10 and MEPIS, aok... I had to set static IP's for the PCLinux and XP boxes.. Using the DNS and gateway's of the self configured for my static settings, and now all 4 boxes are on the net.... Even rebooted the entire network, routers and PC's.. All came back AOK!! Thanks for your prompt, professional help.. LinuxMWB
  6. ROFL!!! Yup, got it on the head... I left it unplugged this morning before work.. I'll give it a whirl tonight.. Thanks again. LinuxMWB
  7. GRAND!! Thanks a million... Atleast I've a place to start when I get home.. I was beating my head... Also, I am having a router issue.. Linksys wireless w/Comcast..... modem direct, internet aok... got three hardwired, and one wireless ALL on the net lastnight.. this morning, only ONE hardwired machine had net.. rebooted both router/cable, no joy, now NONE on the net... Direct connect is aok... this seemed to start when I did a firmware update on the router, however Linksys denies any other people complaining... OS's are MDK 10, PCLinux Preview 7, MEPIS, and wireless XP Thanks again for your help.
  8. Booted my MDK10 box and screen flickered and X failed to load. Said 'no usable screen'.. worked lastnight.. did no updates, nothing... did reinitialize my network with static IP, but that should have no effect on video.. anyhoo, tried reinstalling the driver... 'no kernel configuration' error and install fails.. WTF??? I know, wierd... ANY help would be grand. Also, I backed up my XF86Config-4 file a month or so back when I first got the dual displayes to work. I copied the known good one over the one being used with No joy.
