  2. I decided it'd be more helpful if I post the error message. Below is what happens when I run glxgears and fgl_glxgears: [kieren@localhost ~]$ glxgears Loading required GL library /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 651 frames in 6.0 seconds = 108.500 FPS 551 frames in 5.0 seconds = 110.200 FPS 576 frames in 5.0 seconds = 115.200 FPS 576 frames in 6.0 seconds = 96.000 FPS [kieren@localhost ~]$ fgl_glxgears Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer Loading required GL library /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 142 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent) Serial number of failed request: 34 Current serial number in output stream: 34 [kieren@localhost ~]$ Given that my graphics card seem to be installed fine, does anyone have any suggestions why I'm still getting 100fps on glxgears, and fgl_glxgears doesn't work at all?
  3. Thanks for the info, it worked! Or at least it seems to have worked. My screen resolution has changed to the setting I specified in fglrxconfig, however glxgears still only gets 100fps, and flg_glxgears throws up an error. Is there something I am missing?
  4. Greetings! I have been playing with mandrake and reading these forums for a while, but this is my first retry for a few months. I have recently installed Mandriva LE2005 and am now trying to install my ATI Radeon 9500. I have followed the instructions in this thread to the letter, and all works fine until I type: "rpm -ivh --force fglrx_6_8_0-8.10.19-1.i386.rpm" (replacing the version numbers with my downloaded file name of course) However I get the "FAILED" message because I am missing file "libstdc++.so.5" and "libstdc++.so.5(GLIBCPP_3.2)" Searching through my drive, I find I have files called "libstdc++.so.6" and "libstdc++.so.6.0.3". So are these updated versions of the file that the drivers are looking for? Should I still try and get 5, or do I have to edit a line of code to point it to the newer file? Any help is appreciated. Kernel-Source

Thanks pmpatrick, that worked a treat. Thanks for the suggestions Ixthusdan, I'll persevere with the other site's links (even thought I have the file now) just to see if I can figure out what I was doing wrong. Most of the time I browse with Galeon. I have tried using gftp a couple of times but I haven't got to grips with it yet. Ftp has always somewhat of a foreign concept to me, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. I'm off to install this file now, thanks for the help.

    Kernel-Source

That's exactly my problem. Every link I click on throws up an error message. How do I actually download the file? Do I click the link? Do I use an FTP? Do I have to use a special download manager? I had a quick look with one of the FTP packages in MDK, but couldn't pinpoint an exact file that looked like the correct one. Any help is appreciated - I find it very hard to believe that a task as simple as downloading can be this much harder in Linux than in WIndows.

    Kernel-Source

Hi, i have been having great trouble installing ATI radeon drivers on my MDK 9.2 system. The history of my problem is HERE. Well it seems that I need to D/L and install the kernel-source appropriate for my system to get things working (or at least get closer to getting things working). I was given a link to this page to get a kernel-source but none of the mirrors seem to work. They all have error messages like "550 failed to chage directory" or "no such file or directorye". I have tried every single link. I have also tried following the URPMI setup link to the letter, but it bombs out every time. Can anyone help?
  8. Thanks for the info, very informative. I have at least made some more progress now. I ran the URPMI from the command promp without X running, and using the "force" command it worked. I must have FUBARed the set up though, because now I get under 100fps in "glxgears". I tried a whole variety of options, but just can't get any 3D hardware acceleration. Something I didn't do however, was to download and install the kernal-source as you suggested. I payed for a login for mandrakeclub to get the download, but can't actually get anything to download. If I follow your link, I then click on "kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk.i586.html". From there if I click on " http://www.kernel.org/" all I get is some patches. If I click on "Source RPM: kernel-2.4.22.10mdk-1-1mdk.src.rpm" I get taken to a much more promising screen, but none of the links work. If I then click on one of the "UPRMI setup" links, I get taken to a page that instructs me to copy and paste a certain command into the console while logged in as "root", which I did, but it just downloaded some mirror names and then stopped with an error message: [root@localhost root]# urpmi.addmedia -h mirrors.secsup.org_ ftp://mirrors.secsu p.org/pub/linux/mandrake/Mandrake/9.2 unable to retrieve pathname for removable medium "Installation CD 1 (x86) (cdrom 1)" unable to retrieve pathname for removable medium "Installation CD 2 (x86) (cdrom 2)" unable to retrieve pathname for removable medium "International CD (x86) (cdrom3 )" added medium mirrors.secsup.org_ examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 1 (x86 ) (cdrom1).cz] examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 2 (x86 ) (cdrom2).cz] examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.International CD (x86) (cdrom3).cz] examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.update_source.cz] retrieving source hdlist (or synthesis) of "mirrors.secsup.org_"... ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...thesis.hdlist.c z ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...hesis.hdlist.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...hesis.hdlist.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...nthesis.hdlist1. cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...nthesis.hdlist2. cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...esis.hdlist1.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...esis.hdlist2.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...esis.hdlist1.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...esis.hdlist2.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra.../base/hdlist.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...drake/hdlist.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...e/9.2/hdlist.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...base/hdlist1.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...base/hdlist2.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...rake/hdlist1.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra...rake/hdlist2.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra.../9.2/hdlist1.cz ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandra.../9.2/hdlist2.cz retrieve of source hdlist (or synthesis) failed no hdlist file found for medium "mirrors.secsup.org_" examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.mirrors.secsup.org_.cz] problem reading synthesis file of medium "mirrors.secsup.org_" unable to update medium "mirrors.secsup.org_" [root@localhost root]# I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Video Drivers

No, I haven't tried to do anything manually like that, least of all delete files that I don't know what they do hehe. I'll keep trawling through forums for now I think. I can't be the first person with my hardware combo to use MDK9.2, I'm sure there's a way to get it working.
  10. I have an ATI Radeon 9500 pro, Linux Mandrake 9.2 with XFree86 4.3.0 and Kernel 2.4.22-10mdkenterprise. I am getting extremely slow framerates in "glxgears" (280 - 320fps) and was wondering if any other ATI Radeon users could point me in the direction of a driver which may help to rectify this. I already started a thread about this problem here , but I started this one with a different title in the hope of catching the eye of a current ATI/MDK user. Any help is very much appreciated.

I've done some searching around with google "web" and "groups" but can't seem to find any other drivers. I will continue my search, but in the meantime, here is my log from GLXGEARS: [kieren@localhost kieren]$ glxgears Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". 1434 frames in 5.0 seconds = 286.800 FPS 1560 frames in 5.0 seconds = 312.000 FPS 1460 frames in 5.0 seconds = 292.000 FPS 1480 frames in 5.0 seconds = 296.000 FPS 1560 frames in 5.0 seconds = 312.000 FPS 1460 frames in 5.0 seconds = 292.000 FPS 1540 frames in 5.0 seconds = 308.000 FPS XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 21662 requests (19121 known processed) with 0 events remaining. [kieren@localhost kieren]$ Notice the third line "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0" Could this be anything to do with my problem? After running "hardDrake" to check my configuration, it asked me if I want to enable 3D hardware acceleration and I definately picked "yes". Could this mean the problem lies with XFree86?

Not according to ATI. I downloaded the one it said matched my XFree86 version. However, on closer inspection during an attempt to redownload it, it said something about a realaudio plugin. Have ATI screwed up their link? Does anyone know of another location to get the ATI driver for my Kernel version?

Sorry for my newbieness, but how do I find out the exact kernel? What I meant about the disks was, I'm going to burn the system disks before installing the ATI drivers incase I FUBAR my boot sequence or something. I don't want to do too much without having the ability to reinstall LILO.
