Watch the messages though and post back here if you have a problem like "Stopping Service 'Ears' :[FAILED]"
i think my problem would more likely be with the service 'Mouth'

it's very hard to do...if you have partition magic that will usually resize drives "safely", but Linux will go wacko because the partitions will no longer exist in the form it has set.
so...i don't know a safe way of doing it myself, is what i'm saying. so i probably should've just not bothered posting.
hey, if you installed Linux drunk, that only goes to show how easy it is to install! though i don't think that would go over well as a motto....

I ran into stdlib compilation problems when I switched from Debian to
Gentoo and from gcc 2.95 to gcc 3.2. Perhaps the new version will
build for you. I also added a new module for "idesk".

There has only been a trickle of email on this project. It would be

actually, most allow you to turn off file sharing so you aren't sharing files, just hunting around for them :)
also, they usually have one directory set as the share directory, and don't allow access to anything but that directory. just make sure the directory doesn't contain anything you wouldn't want them getting a hold of.
but, keep in mind, with ANY program, there's always the possibility of it having a security hole. you can't avoid this :-) unfortunately.

having a strange yet interesting issue.
at work, i'm using a Dell C810 laptop, and I have Red Hat on a seperate HD to load up to work on Linux scripts. thing is, the laptop display can do 1600x1200, but from what i can tell when i am in Linux it doesn't do better that 1400x1050, and even worse, it takes that image and stretches it to 1600x1200, causing things to look odd. i.e.: gradients are no longer smooth, i can actually see the distinction between the color changes.
however, under my F7 it says "Font" in blue (function key operation), so, if i press function+F7 the resolution drops to 1400x1050, taking up a smaller portion of the display (i end up w/a black border around the screen). but all the images look right again...
is there some sort of an issue w/XFree86 doing true 1600x1200 resolution?
if you need more info I will try to supply it. XF86Config not posted because I didn't think to grab it before swapping out the Linux HD and booting up Windows.

3lade has a good point.
a site that is unbiased, pointing out the difference. none of the "Windows is evil" "Windows is unstable" stuff. The majority don't care, or even know, about windows being unstable...they just want things to work, and if they work, cool. if they have to think........well crap, that's not supposed to happen!
the masses see a computer as a tool, not a hobby. it's supposed to work, they aren't supposed to have to fix it.
if you've seen the recent Mac commercials, you can see where they're aiming...that's where we need to aim, if we REALLY want Linux to become a viable desktop solution.
there are enough sites out there bashing windows and exalting linux, but-like 3lade said-what is needed is a site which compares the two, and doesn't try to force the reader one direction or the other.

I agree SoulSe, it would seem they are trying to wiggle their way into other markets. Tricky tactics.
The only time I would _ever_ start to even consider trusting MS is if they open sourced their kernel (erm..Windows). And, as the very deepest deep deepity deep depths of Hell would freeze over first, I don't see myself trusting them :)
We ARE many, we aren't stupid, and we won't let you sneak your evil code into our lovely O/S. they'd probably add some code to format our drives and install windows from a remote server....those bastards! okay, maybe that's taking it a bit far. then again...maybe not?

like i said, i just started with it last night.
i dunno about a slit, but you can do the dockapps and so forth. taskbar, no clue. icons: idesk is what i'm going to try out, seems that everyone using it uses idesk.
again...just found it last night, haven't gotten to playing with it much yet :) (tho i'm about to try getting it running on my RH 8.0 laptop at work)

realistically...i know there are video editing tools for linux, somewhere.
as from transferring from the camera to the system through firewire, hm....no experience there. but, i have a firewire also, so it might be something interesting too look up. off i go......

hm...and you have no /dev/ttyS*?
did you plug it in, place the palm in the cradle, turn it on and open up MCC and check the hardware list?
it's very odd that you don't have any ttyS*'s, as even if something wasn't plugged in mandrake should see the serial ports...
anyone else have any ideas?

i haven't played around too much with it yet, just discovered it last night. it doesn't appear to have the bar like in flux/blackbox-you know, where you see things that are minimized. not sure what the deal w/that is, but, ah well!

i usually built fluxbox from source, dunno why.
i'm going to try idesk today, we'll see how that goes.
i also found a fluxbox/blackbox type WM cailled waimea, it looks pretty interesting-as transperency built-in to the window manager, kinda neat. don't have the link w/me, so if anyone wants it let me know and i'll hunt it down....

ok, i took a look at the program, opened up the file to see if i could figure out what the deal was.
it appears that on line 119, for some reason we're getting a parse error. line 119 is:
string display_name, application_name;
both my brother and i looked at this, and could not find the problem. going to email the guy wh wrote the program and see if he can figure it out-thats my best bet.

what type of NIC do you have?
my father had a Linksys NIC which was doing ICS (internet connection sharing) and would periodically stop transferring data, despite the fact that it appeared to be doing it correctly. we had to reboot the machine to fix it, everytime...
but he was using windows, so i don't know if it was the O/S or the card, i just know that disabling and re-enabling the card/connection from within windows wouldn't fix it. always need to go through a complete power cycle (reboot) to get it back up.

a lot of people leave AIM on while they are sleeping. it's some weird thing-for me it's 'cuz i have friends in different time zones, and it's easier for them to just send me an IM then to write up an email and send it off.
it's just something AIM users tend to do, really....

just don't decide to give anything using FAT16 filesystem a try-you'll end up with 100 2-gig partitions.
2 gigs used to be sooooo much...man were those the days.
