  1. Just ran through the installation, updated the XF86Conifg file and everything, got a tip to run glxgears to check that it's installed... but these numbers doesn't tell me anything!?

    4405 frames in 5.0 seconds = 881.000 FPS
    7571 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1514.200 FPS
    13027 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2605.400 FPS
    13333 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2666.600 FPS
    13104 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2620.800 FPS
    13308 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2661.600 FPS
    13306 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2661.200 FPS
    13489 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2697.800 FPS
    12629 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2525.800 FPS
    15041 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3008.200 FPS
    15406 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3081.200 FPS
    15397 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3079.400 FPS
    12081 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2416.200 FPS
    5468 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1093.600 FPS
    7980 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1596.000 FPS
    11722 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2344.400 FPS
    14085 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2817.000 FPS
    14193 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2838.600 FPS

Can anyone tell me of this is good or bad?

EDIT: My specs are: Geforce4 MX 400 (nForce2-chipset) 32MB shared memory. And I run an old LCD 15' with only 1024*768

  2. When I say they don't work I mean they don't work with the Mandrake Cd's, you can make them work although I have to admit I eventually gave up on my nforce2 !!

I have to agree, I really struggled with the nForce2 drivers... only made it with very good help from this forum.

The strange thing is that with Mandrake 9.1 it was easy, but with 9.2 it was a pain!

I still haven't installed the graphics driver, but have new hopes with the new drivers from Nvidia, just downloaded them now and put them on my thumstick, can't wait to get home...

...but no-one tried the WLAN module?

  3. Hi Guys.

I'm planning on buying the WLAN module for my Shuttle barebone. On Shuttle's page it's only listed as compatible with Windows... but Shuttle and Mandrake are pals, so this should work on my mdk9.2 right?

Anyone know if there also is a way to use the Shuttle remote control with mdk? It's not available here in Norway yet, so this is just a "maybe-sometime-in-the-future" thought on my parts...

I've already ordered the new "Ultra silent" PSU, so hopefully I can soon set it up as a real silent, wireless multimedia-station in my livingroom :D

  4. The ones I've installed and use often that didn't come with the distro are:

    - Opera 7.23 (web browser)

    - Kopete 0.74 (multiple IM client)

    - GKrellM 2.1 (system monitoring)

    - GTK Gnutella (P2P client)

  5. You cannot sync a WinCE device with Linux I'm afraid... (having several CE-devices myself)

If I should by a device now, I would buy the Palm Tungsten W. I borrowed it for a week to write a review for PDA Norway (my website) and loved it. I'm seriousely considering selling my CE-devices and buy this one, because today I only can sync at work (where I use w2k).

  6. Here is my little corner in the livingroom. The old laptop there is running Fedora (currently it's defekt, but I'll get it up again soon) and my Shuttle har Mandrake/XP on it, I'm afraid it's XP you see on this picture... sorry guys, but it's not everything I've learned to use Mandrake for yet.

I've got an 11Mbit wireless network at home. The Shuttle is connected through a normal cable while the laptop(s) uses wireless. Since we only have a two-room flat, my girlfriend forces me to hide the equipment as you see

  7. A couple of weeks ago I got my hands on an old laptop (366Mhz,128RAM) with NT workstation on. I thought I'd install Mandrake on it and use it as a surfing-station with my WLAN.

Well, it booted on the Mandrake disk 1, but after a while it suddenly says that my CDROM isn't bootable. I know this isn't true because I tried Knoppix on it first... I tried MandrakeMove, same result, CDROM not bootable.

So I gave up the idea for a while, then I decided to try Fedora. Downloaded, burned CD's and booted. Those worked fine, and I've now been using Fedora for two weeks with my WLAN(AmbiCom WLAN card) B) . I still miss some Mandrake features, but it runs fine.

Anyone know why I couldn't install Mandrake? And do you think Mandrake would run better or worse on my setup?

  8. I think that the all the pictures above show up to each of us as what we ourselves are running; I was trying to figure out why all the members on this forum use my ISP.... :)

Damn, I got really fooled then

  9. Unable to find the kernel header files for the current running kernel.  Please make sure you have installed the kernel header files for your kernel; on RH linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' RPM installed.  If you know the correct kernel header files are installed, you may specify the kernel included path with the '--kernel-path' commandline option.

I've installed the kernel source (had to when I installed the nForce2 drivers), but still get this message... What can I do?

How do I specify the kernel included path with the '--kernel-path' commandline option, and where is it installed?

As you understand I'm a real newbie in linux, :help:

  10. I finished my "IT-education" in the year 2000 having bearly heard the work Linux... I had seen and learned a little bit about UNIX though.

Then I started working for a company that was a Microsoft Partner. For three years I lived in a total-Microsoft world. Got laid off in May this year, still never tried or seen Linux, only heard about it.

In my new job I most be able to understand(not use, but understand) simple UNIX maintenense, so I decided to install Linux at home. That was tree months ago. I have learned so much in theese last three months about not only Linux and Unix, but computing in general, it amazes me

  11. I haven't given Mozilla Firebird a decent try so I can't really say what's best, but I just love Opera, use it in "both worlds". The banner-ads don't bother me as I have enough bandwith and when I surf for fun, I mostly use "fullscreen" (F11) and there is no banner there :P

And the keyboard-shortcuts... oh, I love those. And with version 7.23 I can finally use my internet-banks without booting up windows and IE!

And of course, since I'm Norwegian I almost have an obligation to use Opera :deal:

  12. When I had mdk9.1 I tried Gnome, but it kept crashing, so I stayed with KDE... now I reinstalled my PC with KDE only (yes, Gnome is on my download Edition, I just chose not to install it).

What are the advantages with Gnome? Why do people choose Gnome over KDE, is it just the look, or?

  13. Today I used Knoppix to save an XP-user that had crashed his laptop and desperately needed his outlook-folders... struggeled a little connecting to a 2000 server to transfer the files, otherwise everything worked great.

When this was done I used mr. mr. Nordahl's BootCD, (it's a really small Linux-version that lets you change NT-passwords and edit windows-registry) to reset the administrator-password that he had forgotten...

Today two different Linux-version really saved my day :tux:

    Sorry, off-topic, back on topic:

In my search online for help regarding the connection to 2000server I saw several mentions about Knoppix and USB-sticks... do you know if I could use my USB-stick with Knoppix? I didn't read anything or try because it was to small for the huge outlook-folder anyway, but does anyone know if it's possible/easy?
