  1. Hello Dr. Ephemeron,

I updated the two files per your instructions but httpd2 still failed on reboot. In the error_log file I still get " [crit] (38)Function not implemented: mod_rewrite: could not create rewrite_log_lock. Configuration Failed."

Do you think this may have to do with kernel ( 2.6.3-7mdk)I am using. What is the process to go back to 2.4.25-2mdk?

    Thanks

    JB

I never said it would make apache start... it just gets rid of the resolve hostname error message. The other problem, I have no idea. sorry

I haved used 2.6.3-7, 2.6.3-13 on mdk 10 o.e. and apache2 works fine. Did you remove and reinstall apache2?

  2. Hello,

I have updated webmin and it is running but when I boot the system I get this error  "httpd2: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName"

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    JB

Yeah I got an idea... you need to do exactly what I told the other guy to do... make up a hostname and put it in the 2 files as described above. :P

I don't know nothin' about mod_rewrite except it looks like in your error message it can't create a file lock for some reason... probably due to directory or file permissions not allowing it to..?

  3. When I wake my windoze xp machine up from standby and try to access a share on it from my mandrake machine, gnome hangs up for several minutes and when it recovers I have to unmount and mount the share again to make it work.

Is there a setting to keep samba from hanging up if a windoze xp share is mounted when the windoze machine goes into standby?

    Thanks

  4. Heck it could even be bad memory causing the CD 4 to burn bad repeatedly. I have seen it before. OS seems to run fine, programs seem to run fine, some CDs burn ok, but others will always burn bad in the same spots. Run memtest86 overnight and it shows some bad memory. Replace the memory, CD burns fine.

    This is overlooked a lot.

  5. Here are the MDK Club forums you can browse for free.

    http://www.mandrakeclub.com/modules.php?na...me=Splatt_Forum

You can actually create an account at MDK Expert and click on the "Give Support" tab and get in and browse problems and answers for free.

    http://www.mandrakeexpert.com/index1.php?t...paid&act=create

I am not sure if there are paid experts or the "community experts" in that batch... but it might give you an idea if it is worth it.

    Enjoy :D

  6. Geez what is up with that... ridiculous!  :screwy:

why do you want the sig's? Do you know what they are?

The whole point is that there are only 2 rpms with missing signitures but Mandrake update says that all files have missing signitures, when in fact they have signitures.

Fill us in as to why we don't care about the signitures instead of trying to piss me off.

  7. Any new news on the subject?  I havent seen any updates posted.  Has anyone found a fix?

Yeah I got tired of no file icons so I erased MDK 10 CE and I am installing Gentoo 2004.0 with 2.6.5 kernel and Gnome 2.6. :lol2:

    ...Really I am. :P

  8. Try using the cleaning utility from HP and see if it will clean any goo off your rollers. It prints a black sheet of paper and then you turn it over and run it though again and the black gets heated up and junk on the rollers stick to it.

The only thing bad about CUPS is it sends data into the printer when MDK boots up and it when I print something for the first time, it prints a leading blank sheet with a little string of garbage on it unless I hit the yellow reset on the printer first.

  9. Well everything seems to work ok except the white paper icons for me. I tried changing the theme and it no work. I just hope this works better than before because it would lock up when I had multiple nautilus windows open alot. Not sure why or what exactly I had to do to reproduce it, but with it doing that it pretty much made it worthless for getting anything done.

  10. You need to set your hostname in /etc/sysconfig/network.

    HOSTNAME=your_hostname.ld

If you use DHCP also add

    DHCP_HOSTNAME=your_hostname.ld

You also need to put your machines IP address in /etc/hosts along with your host name.

    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx your_hostname.ld your_hostname

The access_log thing is probably permissions and ownership problem. On my machine the /var/log/httpd directory is drwxr-xr-x root root and the access_log is -rw-r----- root root

If you have mandrake, I would suggest installing Apache2 and perl related stuff with the from the CD and it will work.

  11. Read this question, it occurred to me what is technically the difference:

    starting with

    startx

    means you are in init3

    Yep, that is right.

    starting with

    init 5

is done by root on the console/non-graphics mode. BTW that should just give you the login screen, right? Or do you use autologon? Does that session then run as root? (in which case I can only say: don't!)

I boot into non-graphics mode and then log in as root and then enter init 5 and Gnome starts. (I have to be root to run init 5.) Gnome does not run as root though, just as a regular user.

    chkconfig --list

will tell you what extra things get started, when going from init 3 to 5; you may have to run that command as root, not sure.

As which user would you do startx?

I just log in as a regular user and do a startx. This is what I normally do so I don't have a console open logged in as root.

Also, realise that the first user to log onto the console gets the audio and video devices attributed to him/her, afaik...

0600 is not necessarily bad, if the owner is your user...

  12. Printerdrake (MDK 10 CE) failed to install my HP LaserJet 5P when I ran it from the Control Center in Gnome so I ran it from the console and got this:
