  1. Unfortunately darkelve those were only smily themes.

oops... sorry, did not know that. It's just that all apps I used in Linux seemed to have a skin/theme feature, so I assumed the obvious...

when u assume you make an ass out of you and me... ;) I have spent countless hours researching this thank you, I usually use this board when I have exhausted all my own recources

  2. I love gaim- its a great im app, but man does it muck up my lovely smooth desktop, I have seen a pic or two of gaim contact lists with black backgrounds, or backgrounds that go with the color sceme on the desktop. I would REALLY love to know how to make the white go away and NEVER come back :D Please guide me in the ways of the master linux guru ways... oh man Im tired

gimme something nice to read when I wake up guys! :P

    g'night!

    :zzz::zzz::zzz:

  3. try using menudrake, type it in your konsole... then you should be able to add things you want in your start menu. I have had to actually restart my kde or gnome to get the items to show after I saved the settings I liked

  4. chin808- I have Discovery 9.2 and couldn't find Gnome.  I bought a cheap 3 cd set and loaded the 3rd cd at boot.  Then I went into software and found Gnome.  I don't know if I got it from cd 3 or if it was there all along.  I've been going to install it but I am wondering how it installed, any problems, set up?

Actually I went into rpm drake and searched "gnome" and found the packages there- I had to install about 90 megs of files if memory serves me ( it might not as I have been battling the flu) I feel kinda dumb for not trying that to begin with, and I think I downloded the files becaue I never used any cd's

Hope that helps, if not these guys here know ALOT more about all this than me

  5. Gqview is on the CD, in my case it was already installed in the 'Multimedia-Graphics' menu. Maybe 'cause the search is case sensitive?

Gtumb is not. You can get it here: ftp://216.254.0.38/linux/Mandrake/9.2/con...6-1mdk.i586.rpm

It's really nice for organizing your photo collection(s)

oops, sorry chin808, I did not see this thread had a second page...

no worries... I just got on Gthumb- VERY similar to ACDsee so Im pleased

  6. Gnome is SWEET - Im ever so happy I got it running, I already like it much more than KDE. Im still tweaking and making it my home... I have a couple questions concerning metacity... I found a DARK theme for metacity thats wicked and I want to give it a go. I see that I have metacity somewhere on here but I dont know how to start it to use the theme. From what I understand its a program to theme everything including gaim- thats just what Im looking for. If Im wrong then whatever- Im sick today and my head is a mess. Also - is there a default compression utility for Gnome or should I just use Ark? When I open Ark it opens in a kde window which I dont care for... any help would be cool... or if you just want to make fun of me coz Im a super n00b thats fun too

  7. Actually it was the official support, and no I didnt realize that about lilo ( using linux about 3 weeks) - thanx

I realize as well that this is a message board and just for general questions and all that... I bought the box from mandrake so... yeh Do you think it is on one of my cd's? When I urpmi gnome I get the list of packages I pasted earlier. Is it possible that I have gnome but its just not showing on my login screen?

Thanx for the help YALL ( cant shake that nashville talk)

    Dear Mr Bruns,

In Mandrake Linux 9.2 Discovery, you don't have Gnome desktop due to the

    policy of this product.

    you can close this incident.

    Regards"

    uhhhh.... heh Im lost...

  10. I have mandy 9.2 discovery and was told that Gnome wasnt included with my mandy because of some "policy" according to mandrake experts :screwy: Well I have Kde and I like it, but I want to try Gnome now- Just wondering what the best way to go about dowloading and installing it would be.

    Thanx helpers :cheesy:

  11. Ok does anyone know how to edit the colors in Gaim? I like Gaim better than Kopete in certain ways and Kopete better in others, I like the way Kopete changes colors with the rest of your system. Is there a way to get the colors to match the rest of KDE in Gaim. I have a nice dark color scheme and gaim sticks out like a sore thumb with its grey and white buddy list. At least with trillian I could make the list opaque it looked awesome.

    thanx

  12. use xscreensaver-demo, if that doesn't work you'll have to create a .xscreensaver file.

Check out the man page for more info

yeh I know what was wrong... I was assuming where it said "time before screen goes compltely black" meant just that... Evidently thats the timer for the scr svr

  13. why not use good old xmms?

If you go to shoutcast.com select a stream and open it in xmms it should play like a dream.

    Eska

This is good advise... I have been using winamp for years and am ADDICTED to shoutcast streams... ADDICTED I say! I have my XMMS config'd jus ;like when I was using microshaft and I cant find a better app for streaming choons or mp3's. You have the fat 10 band EQ and endless skins... not to mention tasty sound quality on shoutcast streams 128k and higher. I recommend Monkey radio, SomaFM, Lounge, Bassdrive, Proton radio, beat blender, Groovesalad, and the super nice Epiphany radio

    Im a dj can u tell ;)
