is it a tv in or video out card?
-
interesting i always thought linux couldn't accses dvds due to a miaa mandate?
-
if i do this i am thinking on useing a generic wireless card.

i have switched from distro to distro trying to find one that works with the 9800 pro but with no sucsess.
i bought the 9800 for gaming on windows and while linux use was also a major consideration it was secondary to the first.
so while i might be disapointed at ati for there misleading information i am still happy with the purchase.

i am just curious. any older p3 laptops compatable with mandrake or any thing else?
i am looking at some old p3 500 to 650 mhz for a wireless linux system cause other people in my house complain about not haveing a computer to check there email on while i am on this computer playing games?
-
i hate to ask this but is the patch for mandrake club members only? cause if it is i want to tell them where to stick it.
if not can you post a link?

i have a 9800 pro. from the information i have gathered the drivers seem to conflict with the entire install of xfree86 on mandrake. forceing them to install will get you 2d without acceleration on any res but your still stuck useing messa gl.
i think it has to do with there current firegl drivers not the system.

well i will try agein when ever i get a free day.
those don't come along to often.

The number one unanswered question with this release! You should up-grade the kernel anyway, and install those sources.
last time i tried to build a kernel was with suse and the best i could do was atlest get it to boot.
-
any reason why it doesn't come with the source like normal?
it kind of makes it hard to compile your chipset drivers when the kernel on the disc and the source on the mandrake update?
laptops and mandrake.

hmm thanks for all the informations so far. though i have to report some stuff. i don't realy have a credit card and that rules out places like pricewatch. the only one with cridit card in this house is too parinoid to use it at all on internet only sites. so that limits me to brick and mortor stores. so i found a couple of new candates.
there both from best buy but there the cheapest they have.

even though it is a emachine i do like the wide screen. the intel graphics chipset kind of worrys me cause i have read that linux and intel intergrated graphics don't mix to well.
