  1. Thank you all for the tips! As you may have noticed, I am a Windows user trying to get familiar with Linux. Making new directories for mounting Windows partitions is above my skills, but maybe I'll learn that some day.
  2. Mandrake 9.2 can't find my Epson Stylus Color 680 (USB) printer in HardDrake, but X-Printing panel identifies it correctly. And most annoying is, that I can not print at all. It used to work with 9.2RC2, but not any more with the production release (bought the DVD). It also works all the time in Windows 2000, so it is not broken, but I'd rather use Linux... I suppose, this could be fixed by editing some configuration file, but don't know what. I haven't done it before, have only tried via GUI. Good advice appreciated!
  3. No, it's not OK. It is most irritating, when one navigates back and forth between Windows partitions and Linux. Every time as you navigate to /mount directory, it starts this 30sec scan. I would accept it, if it made it only once. To me this is a flaw and should be fixed.
  4. I bought 9.2 official release (DVD) hoping, that it would resolve the annoying delay that was present in 9.2RC2: when clicking on mnt directory, the PC starts accessing my DVD-burner and DVD-ROM drive three times in the row. Shouldn't it find out if there are disks inserted or not with only one access? I appreciate any advice on how to correct this (a change in some parameter in some config file?). Of maybe it is a feature?
  5. I bought the Workstation DVD version of 9.2. I can not make a backup copy of my DVD because of some read error at the end of the disk. I am now downloading the 3 ISOs and plan to install fresh from those. Can I use my DVD as an rpm-library with ISO-installed version? I also hope, that the downloaded release is not so buggy as the purchased one. I used several days of re-installs and reformats and setting LILO/GRUB in different locations on my two disks and finally realized, that one must set ACPI OFF, otherwise MDK 9.2 freezes immediately on boot. Why on earth did they default this value to ON? The other annoying error was, that network addresses kept dropping off, no matter how I tried to set them. Finally, after downloding some 100 megs of fixes and updating the system it finally started to keep those addresses. I have 3COM network adapter. I'd like to hear if others have similar experiences with the DVD-release. Fonts are one thing, I can not complain about - they are the best I've ever seen in any Linux distro so far. They look good in Mozilla, too! Great!
