  1. Hi all,

I have looked through the forum but did not have any luck finding the problem.

I use Mandrake Linux 10 and I have installed the 2.6.7 kernel but at bootup it sits forever on the sata drive trying to detect it and then it says resetting drive. When Linux eventually boots I have access to the drive but I don't know why it takes so long! Is this something to do with the Nforce2 drivers? I have not specifically installed these.

    thanks

  2. G'day all,

I have a wireless Logitech ergonomic keyboard and optical mouse combo that works fine once linux has booted but the keyboard doesn't work when lilo is up to select what you want to boot. When I install MDK10 it only works once the installer is up with the country selection and not before then. Any ideas or links anyone?

    :help:

  3. Just installed from rpm the latest version of Thunderbird. When I click on the icon to load it looks like it's loading because it's says Starting Thunderbird with the hourglass and then nothing happens and it just goes away. any ideas?

  4. while on the subject, I believe you should not be in kde when updating but should you uninstall your previous version of kde first or can you just install over the top so to speak?

  5. This site is a great resource for starting out. The faq section is especially useful.

One possible good thing to do is go here:

    http://urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php

this will give you locations where the Mandrake Install programme looks for rpm's and dependencys.

I don't know about anyone else but using a 56k modem would be a real pain!

  6. Yes that's the worry I have about going to 10 CE but I don't mind downloading 700mb worth of stuff if it means that it will work well.

The other thing is that I like using the stuff at KDE-look like KrDocker etc so that sort of thing probably doesn't help.

  7. I have been working on my Mandrake 9.2 system after many reinstalls and I must say it's great fun. But it doesn't seem to be as stable as I expected. So I must be doing something wrong. Is it a good idea to get the latest version of everything all of the time, do the numbers designate a stable version or anything? I also thought that joining Mandrake Club and getting the RPM's directly from there would be the best idea and just stick to what they release and to support mandrake of course :D

Ok here are my hardware specs and what I have done:

    Duron 1300

    512mb ram

    64mb geforce 4 mx440

    SBlive!

    6gb for linux

40gb WD with XP (going to get a new drive for my linux install)

My last reinstall was the quickest ever and this is what I put on:

    Kernel 2.6-7 i686-up to 4GB

    KDE 3.2

Latest nVidia from their site from January.
