just a thought, have you tried running kudzu? not sure if it will help, but it has helped me a few times with new hardware.

How about running it on tty2? I just log in on one of the other terminals, start it and forget about it.

Not according to their site, but I think they eventually plan to have one. Personally I'm not holding my breath tho'.

Looks cool, what directory did u end up putting the files in? not sure where they mean on a MDK system.

I use xplns, it is the only one that seemed to install and work for me. Very nice program, I'd reccomend you check it out.

well I only have 1 puter at the moment, but it will pump out 6 a day if the server isn't having one of it's fits

1: right click on xmms to bring up the menu

2: choose play directory

3: choose /mnt/cdrom (or whatever you have the cd in)

4: enjoy :)

Somehow I can't get myself to use anything other than this ultra-cool Matrix screensaver (when I actually run a screensaver)...... werd up!

are you by any chance using an ECS cheapo motherboard? if so I had the same problem,(well the weird sound part) caused by using a pci video card and had to get an agp and all is well. My prob was mobo specific. May help, otherwise I'm stumped.

so cd's play fine in windows? check kmix and see if the cd level is split into separate channels. Maybe one is turned down.

are you sure you shouldn't use plain RPM for what you are trying to do?

Sounds like a cd program setting. What are you using to play them and have you tried anything else? I use kscd and xmms to play mine.

<bump> I know there are more than 9 of us! we have 10 on the team, but one is a phantom I think......

Just installed the rpm's off the cd's (2 and 3) and finally got my spellchecker working... even after a restart. Must not be a default to install the proper files....... but that is what this board is for! figuring out the solutions 8)

I believe you're referring to gkrellm, if it's not installed it is on your disks. You can configure it to show about anything you want.

OK ... other than KsCD you can choose "play directory" from XMMS and choose /mnt/cdrom and you can play the cd.

I always use KsCD and it always "sees" the audio cd. Trying to see how to do it with XMMS

I haven't even gotten it to install, so I opted for xplns which loaded nicely. You may want to give it a try and see what you think.... Todd

I just went to shoutcast.com in konqueror and clicked on a station, chose open and selected xmms and it opened. playing some techno now.

You can also right click on xmms choose open location and enter a url.

So that's you on my avatar! Have you been installing mplayer on top of the one you already had, or uninstalling first? maybe bad/conflicting configs or something?

rpm --rebuilddb

sounds like the rpm database was borked. That command should straighten it out. (if that's the whole problem that is)

luckily many of those are available in real player format, so they are easy. The windows media format is probably out of the question, but the winamp media I'm not sure of. none of those links had that format. I'm trying to see what I can find.

Does winamp have their own format? or is it streaming .ogg or whatever?

Well! After about 6 days of playing with Mandrake 9.0, I couldnt do a darn thing about geting my nVidia GeForce2 Go card to work at any resolution higher than 640x480... I tried about a thousand different solutions that I found on the web (google groups, yahoo searches, and even some linux message boards) and after all that, I come across THIS post, the link with all of the Mandrake RPM's that are "unoffically" released worked Awsome, now I can look at squintravision at 1600x1200!!!!!
