Aaaarrrggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
After going through a new install recently I've discovered that I have no icons in Ooo.org under Gnome!
All files added as previous posts but no joy.
Any thoughts?

Lovely stuff, thanks!

2009, KDE4
Any way to stop apps showing from other desktops on the bottom panel?
Could do it in KDE 3.5 but can't find out how to in 4.

Ta for the polite help :D
This is the second time that quanta disappearing into that metapackage or whatever it's called has stumped me.
-
Maybe because the package is called kdewebdev ;)
:woops:

:D
All working now!

I think that you need to update your sources again.
Thanks Greg, this is what I get:
[chris@localhost ~]$ urpmq --sources quanta http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/carroll.cac.psu.edu/MandrivaLinux/official/2009.0/i586/media/ main/release/quanta-4.1.2-1mdv2009.0.i586.rpm [chris@localhost ~]$ urpmq --sources kwebdev No package named kwebdev
When I had kde4.1 running before then quanta was no longer in kwebdev but in it's own package.
So quanta 4.12 is installed but a shufty at the file details reveals there's nowt in the package
quanta - Quanta A HTML editor for the K Desktop Environment. Version: 4.1.2-1mdv2009.0 Currently installed version: 4.1.2-1mdv2009.0 Group: Graphical desktop/KDE Architecture: i586 Size: 0 KB Medium: None (installed) URL:
Which is what you'd expect if running kde 3.5.
Never had trouble installing quanta before so am a bit confused.
Maybe carroll.edu is the issue?

KDE 4 might be unstable for you, but you can try it I suppose :)
I did have it before this reinstallation, it just ran like a sleeping dog. :P
-
Nope, still no sign of it.
Perhaps I'll just upgrade to 4.1 and use the KDE4 package.
-
Hmm, perhaps I'll update me sources later and see what pops up.
-
Fairly new install of 2008 upgraded to 2009 with kde 3.5 and gnome.
Quanta Plus used to be part of the kwebdev package rpm. Now the package manager show that it has gone and the Quanta rpm is a dummy one awaiting kde4 installation.
So short of installing kde4 is there any sign of quanta plus?
As an aside is Screem still in development or has it been abandoned?

As posted earlier the magic blue arrow reappeared and did the business!

Thanks for the info David, appreciated

So what gives with the laptop kernel?
What benefits should it provide against the standard kernel?
Should I change to it?
Will this kernel maybe help with getting suspend/resume working? It works fine on my laptop with Ubuntu once I've tinkered with the acpi-support file but I've never got it working with any non-debian based distro.
-
Thanks Ian. All seems to be sorted now.
-
The blue arrow has now reappeared and normal service is being resumed, so to speak.

Seems the panic is over. Upgrading to 2009 doesn't result in the frantic disk and fan activity that 2008 did. No idea why but it's made me a happy man.
-
Left it running overnight, got down this morning to discover an error popup. Clicked ok, can't remember that the error was and it carried on with downloading 106 packages.
Made the mistake of trying to open firefox and it basically stopped responding. Pulled the plug and restarted. Blue arrow reappeared but only wanted to install 3 exra packages.
Any idea what happened to the other 103?
Is there a command line urpmi I can use to force the rest of the update?

The blue arrow has reappeared on my desktop today.
Clicking it leads me to read that the downloaded files will be around 3.1 Gb is size.
Shurely some mishtake?
Last time I used the blue arrow before it was pulled it only took an hour or two.

2008 updated.
My laptop is a rebranded uniwill with an AMD64 bit chipset, 3400+ or summat, ATI M9600 chipset and 1Mb RAM, about 2-3 years old.
Compiz has always led to lockups but the latest compiz/kernel/emerald etc is proving remarkably stable, both in Mandriva and Ubuntu 8.04.
A previous upgrade to KDE4 led to it becoming very sluggish and due to other factors I reinstalled.
If I run compiz under KDE 3.5 then at some point my system will overheat? and shutdown. Under Gnome there's no everheating but the fan is whirring it's nuts off and cpu use for some processes comes close to the 100% mark for periods of time. For example rpmdrake will hit 98% whilst it indexes and displays the packages, about 10 seconds. Under Ubuntu it doesn't seem to be as intensive.
Question is, what can I do to help things out?
Drop compiz?
Use the laptop kernel?
As an aside what are the benefits of using the laptop kernel?
Ta.

2008 updated.
Finally installed Gnome on this fresh installation. Still using the KDM login manager.
Once logged into Gnome there's no facility for shutting down. Two options where there used to be several - lock or logout. Once logged out I can cick on the green shutdown button which bring me to another KDE screen whcih gives me the option of shutdown. Seems long winded way to do things and I'm sure it's not correct.
Maybe using the GDM would sort things out?

Worth me raising a bug report regarding this? Definitely summat up with CUPS or the supplied ppd file for my printer

Mandriva 2008, KDE 3.5, fully updated.
The recommended driver for my printer, HP PSC 750 which I've always used is the foomatic/hpjis. Selecting this however leads to no print output, the job just stays in the queue.
Selecting the gutenprint driver and all works fine. Problem is, II need to print some photos and the gutenprint is maxxed at 600dpi. Needs 1200 dpi to get some decent output.
Seems like a bug, anyone seen any info on this?
CUPS 1.3.6.

Just installed all the openoffice.org-styles I could find.
