  1. I keep trying the sh hplip install and eventually it worked! Still no printer detected. OMG I boot into windows and the damn printer didn't work there either! I unplug the power, reconnect the power and it worked! Boot into 2009, run as directed, and there it is, installed in no time! Arrrgh, I can't believe I did that! This printer has never done that. Sorry Mandy, you may have been fine all along.
  2. Ok, new install! Still installed the server kernel. I have now changed this. The dual core with raid setup may confuse the install into thinking its a server? Tried to install using MCC, still not detected. Can http://localhost:631 to it, but still cannot find it. Tried to install hplip and this is what I get: This is crazy, it worked flawlessly in 2008...even 9.0 could run this printer.
  3. Just a quick question, should I install and use a desktop kernel??? Would easy urmpi be configured to use the server sources???
  4. That is the server kernel isn't it? My old installs used to have a desktop kernel...I just used all the defaults, not sure how that happened. Still no luck with printing though. I can bring up cups with http://localhost:631/ though now, before nothing happened. I cannot add the printer, or if i do find, it cannot find the printer.
  5. Forgot to mention, it installed the server kernel, is this normal?

    KDE 4.2

Im using 2009 free, with the KDE4, whats the best way to upgrade? Im getting constant crashes with mozilla, its driving me mental.
  7. Ian, [root@localhost matthew]# netstat -tunlp | grep 631 tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:631 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3496/cupsd tcp 0 0 :::631 :::* LISTEN 3496/cupsd udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:631 0.0.0.0:* 3496/cupsd
  8. Ian I was unable to install hplip. I cannot Http://localhost:631 either. I used easy urmpi to do my updates, but I re-used it again just to make sure, but still no luck.
  9. Perhaps I asked it in an awkward manner. Can someone please guide me through installing a printer in Mandriva 2009 with KDE4?
  10. Hi guys, I've installed 2009 KDE4, and its working with all my hardware straight off the bat! Sound! Yes! Graphics, had to install nvidia driver, but had graphical log in! Network Card! Yes! Raid! Yes! Its all perfect....except I went to print an assignment tonight, no printer. This printer, HP 1315, has worked under 9.0, 2008 and 2008.1 with no dramas. I seen a post sometime ago about printers being a bit of a hassle in 2009, not sure if it was because of KDE4 or not. Either way I need it to work. I tried: Tools, system tools, configure your computer, hardware, printers etc..where its says your about to install blah blah, but it fails. If I turn the printer off then on again, it tries to install again, but also fails. I downloaded the latest Hplip, and that fails to install with a lot of dependencies not being able to be installed. I updated media through easy urmpi. Still no luck. I seen in another post this was asked for: [root@localhost matthew]# lsusb Bus 002 Device 007: ID 0457:0151 Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. Please help. This printer has served me well for years....and I just refilled the inks ;)
  11. Thanks guys. I thought this might be the case. I have to spend some time with kde 4 by the looks. In the folder view hopefully I can rig up something with some links so I can create a 'Storage Media' file. IE an icon called windows raid array, which points to the array. Thanks all, Matt
  12. Hi all, I just installed Mandy 2009 KDE, I went with KDE4 despite its bad reception, I figure it probably will be the way to go in the future so get accustomised to it now. I use to use the Storage Media icon on the KDE3 destop all the time. Lots of my work is carried around on flash drives, and I also have several hard drives installed and several partitions. The storage media icon was great, just open it up and there was all my media. Can this be done in KDE4? I really hope so. Thank you.
  13. Ian, I had a work collegue download 2009 Free DVD and I installed it, letting the installer using free space. Well it detects the raid as /mnt/win_c2. Beautiful, at last. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong, but it now works as intended.
  14. Great point, I hadn't thought of that!
  15. Thanks guys, the Source Forge Perfect desktop suggests using KompoZer Quanta Plus So it appears I have several, great it sounds, options. Ian, nice clean, profession sites, just what I'm after Hackers, a constant evil. Hopefully buy the time that the site will be worth hacking I should have someone employed or contracted to look after this. But it is a thought to keep in the back of my mind. Thanks guys, got lots to go on.
  16. Hi all, I'm about to kick off my new business. I want to have a web site, nothing fancy at this stage ie. i dont need shopping carts and automatic online ordering. I intend to have a home page, a contact page, a data/help page, products page. etc etc. I've read a little on HTML from a dummies book. What application would be good to use for me to start?? Are there any sites that can help me learn how to use such a program? Thanks all
  17. Ian if I rename the array is it likely to be detected as a new device? Or is there some way to force re detection?
  18. Ian, I tried that, but still no luck. I'm thinking of doing a re-install in a new partition and try to hook it up using the custom partitioning. I dont really want to loose my current 2008.1 install as its been updated, and down want to do another big download session.
  19. Ian sorry to be so demanding! I tried a different directory, but got the same result. I wonder its from where it tries to be mounted in the fstab file. During boot the fault I get is could this be the problem? My fstab file is:
  20. Thanks Ian, so it looks as though /mnt/raidclegget08 is busy...How do I go about changing this?
  21. [root@localhost matthew]# mount -t ntfs /dev/mapper/isw_bebgibagai_Cleggett08 /mnt/raidcleggett08 mount: /dev/mapper/isw_bebgibagai_Cleggett08 already mounted or /mnt/raidcleggett08 busy [root@localhost matthew]# How do I determine where it is mounted?
  22. Ian I checked through the logs, nothing mentioned ntfs, only where it mounts the windows partition
  23. Ian thats what I tried, and I got some NTFS fail reports at boot, how do I go about reading what they are? Thanks
  24. I thought about this last night and I think I know whats going on....I dont know how to fix it When I installed the 2008.1, the installer program asks if it should use the two drives as a raid array. I answer yes to this. I of course chose custom partitioning, and never applied a mount point to the raid array. So of course the OS can see the partition/array, I just have to mount it and it should work fine. Im not sure how to do this correctly.
  25. Ok Ive seen in a few forums that dmraid can run the earlier ichXr controllers. So first I ran Which shows I have the raid array active. Then i ran Looking good I thought, it shows two devices, in mirror Then I tried again Why has it now picked up the second imaginary array???? I tried to mount isw_bebgibagai_Cleggett08, but was unable to. What is the correct line to do so? I tried to mount the partition in MCC as /mnt/raidcleggett08 (I've made that folder) but I get fail messages at boot.
