  1. Thanks for everybodys help! I don't know what I did because I am running on 3hrs of sleep but I figured it out! Everything is running now and I can acess everything on my second HDD. Once again I thank everybody that helped me out. We can call this problem solved :D.
  2. I performed another cat /etc/fstab in terminal and for some reason things have changed. I have no clue what this means so maybe you call can help me. Maybe this will shed light for why I'm not able to acess anything in my second harddrive. /dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1 /dev/hdb1 /computer ntfs-3g user,ro,user_xattr,locale=en_US.UTF-8,defaults 0 0 /dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 I hope this can help anybody help m with my issue thanks again.
  3. Anybody have any idea as to what to do?
  4. Ok I found the secondary disk in my filesystem, but the icon for my secondary disk is a file, and it says the disk is only 4.7gig, and that there is nothing in it. But when I go to look at the disk partions in mounting points it lables the drive as 74gig. Did I do something wrong?
  5. /dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1 /dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/hdb1 /media/Secondary40Disk ntfs-3g defaults,locale=en_US.UTF-8 0 0 Is it mounted in: /media/Secondary40Disk? If so can I mount it somewhere else?
  6. Ok after I did the packages for ntfs-3g, I went ahead and tried to get packages for ntfs-config. And it had packages to install for it, I then did the ALT+F2. It gave me the option to read/write to my second harddrive. Now Mandriva lables the harddrive as a Secondary Harddrive, and lables it as an NTFS-3G. So I'm guessing everything is working now??? If so how do I acess my secondary harddrive?? It does not show up in My Computer. Is there a certain way to acess it?
  7. Ok I see what I did wrong, after I typed the urpmi ntfs-3g it had me install the packages. Then I did the ALT+F2, typed in ntfs-3g and it does nothing. Does not even give me an error. Isn't something supposed to happen after I run it?
  8. I'm glad your all here to help me but so far everything that everybody has informed me of has not worked. Anybody else have any ideas out there?
  9. Would I be able to turn the NTFS partion into a FAT partiion without losing anything on the drive? I'm lost I have looked up on so much but nothing seems to work for it. I really hope I didn't lose anything on the drive.
  10. Thank you much :) here is what I have. /dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1 /dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
  11. I have 2007.1 and I made sure I selected URPMI 2007.1. And I have been using a Linux based system now for umm..... 10 hours so I yet do not know how to tell you what my /etc/fstab bile is. Can somebody point me in the right direction as how to look up this info needed. Thanks ahead of time.
  12. I was able to get the updates done with EasyURPMI, at least I'm sure I did. I followed the directions exactly and ended up downloading something through my Terminal, and when I logged back into my profile it did some updates. To answer your questions yes it is formated in NTFS, and when I open up terminal to input the code you posted above it replies with: No package named ntfs The following packages contain ntfs: libntfs-3g0 libntfs-3g0-devel libntfs9 libntfs9-devel ntfs-3g ntfs-config ntfsprogs ntfsprogs-gnomevfs And it never asked me to do anything with extra packages. But still I went ahead and did the ALT F2 and typed the ntfs-config and hit enter. It then replied: Could not open location 'file:///ntfs-config' Whats that all about? Any clue as to what to do next?? Thanks for your help.
  13. Don't mind this post anymore, I was tired of searching for the cure to my problem so I just reloaded the OS. All is good once again.
  14. Just installed Mandriva 2007, and at first my 3D Desktop worked, and everything was running real smooth. The only thing I have done to the computer is change my desktop picture and the theme colors. Now my 3D desktop is not working, and my [Close] [Minimize] and [Maximize] buttons are missing on all of my windows. I cant move the windows, I can't do anything with them infact the only way to close a window is to go to File and close at the bottom of the list. What has caused all of this? How do I fix it? Thanks in advance.
  15. I searched around for a while and was not able to find anything that was related to my problem. I just recently decided to try out Mandriva 2007 as my main OS instead of Windows XP Pro SP2. I have the OS running just fine but I backed up all my media onto my second hdd which was just a storage hdd for my last setup. The only things I have on my second hdd is all of my music, movies, videos, documents and what not. But I can't seem to be able to get Mandriva to use the drive. It is able to see the drive and it tells me how big it is. But it won't let me acess my second hdd to get to my media. What do I need to do to be able to get to my media? Or is it a lost hope and I might as well forget about everything that was on that drive? Thanks for the help in advance.
  16. I'm trying out Puppy and it works. Not a big fan of running off of a live CD and using almost all of my RAM. But it beats Win 98 thanks again.
  17. Yeah found that out the hard way. Fedora Core 1 installed no problem on my laptop. Found all the drivers and installed pretty quickly. But when I go to actually load the OS I just get a blinking cursor in the corner. So I guess either Fedora is not good for my laptop, or my laptop is just not friendly with anything BUT Win 98. Since that is the only OS i have ever gotten to work on this thing.
  18. Using the search button I was able to figure out that this new version of Linux is just not going to work on my laptop. I was able to find out that alot of people have gotten Fedora Core 1 to work on my laptop so I'm in the process of downloading the ISO's on that OS for my laptop. Thanks again for your help.
  19. I just recently decided to try out Linux again after not using it for the past 4 years now. I use to use Red Hat 9.0 on my destop dual booting with Windows XP Pro. I'm wanting to install Mandriva on my older laptop just to try it out first. The laptop is a Compaq Presario 1240, 96MB Ram, 4 Gig HHD, 266 MHz CPU. I could not find any system req for this OS so I downloaded the ISO and burned a good working copy. (I tested it out on two other PC's in my home.) The laptop is set to boot with the CD Rom first, and the BIOS has settings for Linux based OS's so I figured it would work. But when I turn on the laptop and get ready to load Mandriva, the laptop will do nothing and say "No OS Loaded". Will this OS work on my laptop? What could I be doing wrong? Any hints and tips would be useful. I just want to try it out first and at the moment not willing to wipe my desktop to try out something I might not like. And dual booting is out of the question I have my reasons. Thanks ahead of time for your help.
