Help! I can't login anymore. KDE has dissapeared, my login screen has completely changed to MDE! There is no KDE entry in sessions only Icewm, drak3d, default, failsafe,& custom, none of which work.I can login in terminal but when I issue 'startx' all I get is a blue screen with 2 open terminal boxes. This all happened after I after I went here:- www.mde.djura.org and enabled Mandriva Enhanced RPMs. Afterwards there were 119 updates installed, after a reboot nothing worked! At the Grub screen I have tried every kernel option available, still no good.I don't want re-install if I can help it as I had things set up just right.I am using 2007-1 Spring, KDE version. Can anybody please help?

Absolutely spot on! I amazed at how much you guys know about the workings of Linux! Thankyou very much, this completely solved the problem, my network was up immediately on re-boot.It's shown as eth3 now, not wlan0 but who cares? it works! Thankyou again.

Thankyou - that fixed it, I did a search for nvidia in rpmdrake and there were 6 installed entries for nvidia kernels, I uninstalled them and I've now got a green tick instead of a red exclamation mark! I don't know how they got there (It wasn't me!), but it's ok now. Thanks again and thanks to all who took the time to reply.

I have not installed these packages as they are for Nvidia cards and mine is Ati.I tried rebuilding RPM database, but the 6 'updates' are still there, and the updater is still saying 'updates are available for your system'.
-
My software package updater keeps wanting to install 6 different Nvidia kernels and I have Ati graphics. It also gave me the option for Ati kernel and driver update which I selected. I untick the Nvidia boxes and it is happy for a while, then it tells me updates are available and the boxes are all ticked again, it's starting to get on my nerves. Any ideas?

I've just switched to Mandriva from a number of different distros, I'm using Spring 2007-1. I have a Buffalo Airstation WiFi card that works fine with the broadcom driver in ndiswrapper, the problem is I have to set it up every time I re-start the laptop, this is getting tedious in the extreme! My /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 contains this:-
DEVICE=wlan0
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
ONBOOT=yes
METRIC=35
MII_NOT_SUPPORTED=no
USERCTL=yes
RESOLV_MODS=no
WIRELESS_MODE=Managed
WIRELESS_ESSID=####
WIRELESS_ENC_KEY="open s:########"
WIRELESS_WPA_DRIVER=wext
IPV6INIT=no
IPV6TO4INIT=no
DHCP_CLIENT=dhclient
NEEDHOSTNAME=yes
PEERDNS=yes
PEERYP=yes
PEERNTPD=no
(sensitive parts hashed out)
I've read another post recommending locking xorg.conf file, but this seems a bit drastic.
Can anybody please help? Thankyou
