  1. Hi IX I changed my fstab to look like yours and it still won't work, I just noticed that when I try to open my cd drives there is a little lock symbol on the file browser, could there be a problem with permissions? I will try to open it as root and reply.
  2. Hi IX I took out the supermount, and I tried mounting it in a konsole and it said that it was a directory, I don't know what mountmagic is. I still coundn't access my drive. I keep getting an error that says the permissions are wrong for /home/kilimanjaro/tmp/orbit-kilimanjaro
  3. I have had both both drives in the same ide for awhile, I haven't noticed any problems, but that doesn't mean that there hasn't been any. which one do you suggest I move on with the harddrive? # File generated by DrakX/drakboot # WARNING: do not forget to run lilo after modifying this file boot=/dev/hda map=/boot/map default="linux" keytable=/boot/us.klt prompt nowarn timeout=100 message=/boot/message menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5 splash=silent" vga=788 read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux-nonfb" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5" read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.3-7mdk label="263-7" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd-2.6.3-7mdk.img append="devfs=mount acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5 splash=silent" read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz label="failsafe" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="failsafe acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5 devfs=nomount" read-only other=/dev/fd0 label="floppy" unsafe /dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1 none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0 /dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2 none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/hdc,fs=auto,--,umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-15,dev,codepage=850 0 0 none /mnt/cdrom2 supermount dev=/dev/hdd,fs=auto,exec,--,umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-15,dev,codepage=850 0 0 none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0022,iocharset=iso8859-15,sync,codepage=850 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda7 /usr ext3 defaults 1 2 /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
  4. Don't be too sure that I know this stuff. CD-RW: /mnt/cdrom Bus: ‎ide Drive capacity: ‎burner Channel: ‎secondary New devfs device: ‎/dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/cd Old device file: ‎/dev/hdc Media class: ‎cdrom DVD: /mnt/cdrom2 Bus: ‎ide Drive capacity: ‎DVD Channel: ‎secondary New devfs device: ‎/dev/ide/host0/bus1/target1/lun0/cd Old device file: ‎/dev/hdd Media class: ‎cdrom Is this the kind of info you were talking about?
  5. I can't seem to access my cdroms, I have tried configuring them differently and it doesn't have any effect. I have tried in fluxbox and then in kde nothing works, this have been since I installed 10.0 OE [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  6. grip won't work as a normal user, it says that the permissions of the orbit folder are wrong, and it cannot access the cdrom. And in su it only will rip and encode about 1/2 of a cd and then it says destination folder full, which I don't understand, cuase I have about 100 gigs free. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  7. 2.6.3-7mdk I remember reading somewhere that the connection somebodies cd player was turned off by a program. I couldn't find it again, but that kind of seems to be what is happening. I will try kde.
  8. Actually I can burn from Nautilus cd burner. I found this: # File generated by DrakX/drakboot # WARNING: do not forget to run lilo after modifying this file boot=/dev/hda map=/boot/map default="linux" keytable=/boot/us.klt prompt nowarn timeout=100 message=/boot/message menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5 splash=silent" vga=788 read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux-nonfb" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5" read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.3-7mdk label="263-7" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd-2.6.3-7mdk.img append="devfs=mount acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5 splash=silent" read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz label="failsafe" root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="failsafe acpi=ht resume=/dev/hda5 devfs=nomount" read-only other=/dev/fd0 label="floppy" unsafe what is this telling me? I have been looking at your thread on scsi emulators, but this doesn't seem to match what you gave as an example. Actually I don't know if my other burners are working, because I now cannot get my drives to read anything. I have a dvd and a cdrw, and I am using flux box so normally I just type in: /mnt/cdrom but this no longer works. I am going to make the mother of all fxck-ups and assume it is the same problem, and it has to do with scsi.
  9. Ok I am using 10.0 OE and I had K3b working before in 10.0 and then I had some problems and I had to reinstall. Since then K3b hasn't worked. I have uninstalled K3b and cdrecord and then reinstalled. I don't know what you are talking about for scusi..scummy, what ever it is, so you might need to talk slowly using small words. I have never had to mess with lilo before either.
  10. How do I know when I am ready to turn pro?
  11. Ok cdrecord was not still running and I got the same result as root.
  12. I had K3b working fine earlier, but I had to reinstal 10.0 and it saved all of my settinds, so I didn't have to go through the set up again. It allows me to do everything as a normal user, it just gets an error when it tries to burn. I will check the other things you mentioned, and I did look through the thread about yopur problems with K3b. I have only ever got it to work once and when it does it is really nice, but it is such a bitch to get it working.
  13. I keep getting an error when I try to make an audio cd. It says "cdrecord did not exit cleanly" It doesn't even start to write, when it does this. I tried reinstalling the whole setup and the dependancies, but I got the same results.
  14. I have this same problem and I have no idea how to do what was suggested.
  15. I was using the install option. I finally just installed it without disc 2 and then remove the disc from my media sources and did an udate, everything seems to be working fine right now.
  16. I reinstalled 10.0 and libdvdcss and libdvdread and it iis working fine now.
  17. Thanks everyone, I'll try this. I am a little worried because nothing seesm to be working right on my machine. I wonder if it is time to get a new computer?
  18. I'll check out the md5sum. Hi Ix, I had no problem installing disc 1 and 3, and I actually downloaded disc 2 from four different mirrors, I tried three different machines, and used four different burner programs, to make the various discs and none of the worked, while disc 1 and 3 work the first time. btw I like your new avatar
  19. Has anyone else had problems with disc 2? I have made 12 copies of it and none of them work. I have used different computers to download and burn the disc. None of them work!
  20. I had libdvdread. My system then crashed. I am having problems with disc 2 of 10.0, haaaas anyone had this problem?
  21. I tried 7 different media players and none of them will play some dvds I rented last night. I just installed 10.0 OE. With 9.2 it was playing them fine, but I had to use an older version of mplayer.
  22. I was messing around with www admin trying to manage print jobs with cups.
  23. All of my terminals have stopped giving me the normal promt, instead I get bash-2. 05b$ What does this mean? What happened? I notice that all of my bookmarks for my web browser are gone also.

    cups

How do you get authorized to change things in cups? I tried as root and it still said I was unauthorized. Is it something to do with www admin system? This is very frustrating because I can't even cancel print jobs, so alot of paper been wasted.
  25. jeanackle suggested menuski, but I haven't had enough time to do anything this week.
