Hello scoopy When 9.2 come out will I be able to just upgrade without a new installation? I have tried using overnet, but once again I am having problems. I went to the web site and went throuth thier FAQ and it wasn't any help. Overnet will connect fine and I will search for a file. Once I find one it seems to take awhile to start downloading, but as soon as it does it sucks up 100% of my processor and 756mb out of 784mb of memory, and then the gui disconects from the core. The core doesn't shut off I have to use gnome system monitoer to shut it down, which frees up my processor, but I have to totally shut down my computer to free up the memory. I am hoping that this is not the way it is supposed to work.
  2. I have mandrake control centre open and the only place I can find ip tables are under Draxservices, and I can only start or stop them. I really don't know very much about ports or even what an ip table is. I have tried to use gnutella and overnet and neither could access the net. and now nothing can, unless guard dog is disabled. I am using 9.1 with fluxbox, I don't know if it amkes any difference.

I found this site http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/index.php#third and I am adding media souce for my updates. You've probably allready been to CPAN. I love gimp, I have photoshop 7.0 and gimp is much easier to use and it does everything I ever need from photoshop.
  4. Guard dog has now decided to prohibit all access with the internet regardless of how the protocols are set. I have to disable it just to come here. I have reset the protocols numerous times and it makes no difference. Is there any way to reset the program, or should I reinstall it? Is there another firewall I could change to?
  5. when I originally started this thread it was simply about installing the files and I am pretty sure some where back there I did mention I was using fluxbox, but I know it is a lot of stuff to sort through of couse maybe it was in another thread. william I used menudrake and it was very easy, mystified showed me how, and it can all be done with a gui

One qwik post before I go to bed (8 am class) I am using dial up, and overnet is set at the port suggested 6443 I think, but I have a new problem. My firewall no longer allows any contact with the outside world. I have to disable it to come here. Is there a way to reset it maybe ? I tried changing the protocol and it still didn't allow any connection. At one time I had my update sources set at plf and texstar and for some very important reason, which I don't remember any more, I took them off, and I don't remember how I got them on in the first place. anyways, I'm off to bed almosr midnight here. Thank you very much for your help scoopy

hello scoopy I am having problems with the gui connecting to the core. I t keeps timing out. the oproblem seems to be with the ports. I had to disable guarddog to get it to connect. I am have problems with it. I don't know enough about ports and protocols to set it up right, I think it is the reason I was having problems with gnutella. mystified helped me figure out the menudrake so I hvae these new programs on my menu. I have another question. If I were in a terminal as root and I typed urpmi gtk-gnutella, what would you expect to happen? Also how do I change it so when I typr urpmi update that it seeks the updates at plf and texstar ?

Hey scoopy! well it is running, but I have no idea what it is doing or how to use it. I tried to do a search How do I set which file I want my donwloadfs to go to and uploads to come from? Supposedly it is searching, but it isn't showing any activity of results. This seems to be the same thing I had going on with gnutella. it is saying that there nobody connected to the server, what ever that means. I am using guarddog...do I have to configure the protocols to allow it to access the net? AND... do you know how to add the gui to my networking menu in fluxbox? I also need to change to the newest version of openoffice.
  10. I am using fluxbox which doesn't have a desk top it has a menu that opens on a right click. You can't save anything to the desktop because there isn'y one. I don't know how to change what appears in the menu panel, maybe is I go to kde I can do it there?

I get soooo frustrated, that I contemplate re-installing windoze. Help me before I do the unspeakable!

OK I think I have the right perl, and I have read theough the readme file it talks about installation, but it is assuming that I know things that I don't, in fact it kind of say that 2. How to install it? PUA comes with an out-of-the-box installation setup. All you have to do is the USUAL perl Makefile.PL make make test make install I opened a terminal in the directory, but it said I had an error, no such file or directory <Makefile.PL> So what am I doing wrong?[/u]
  14. Hey!!!! Gnubie I didn't know you could open a terminal in a directory. that is pretty slick! Thanks
  15. How do I find the new version? And there are about five different applications of OO like impress, calc, draw, writer, and math. will the new version do all of these things and do I need to change the path on all of them?
  16. Must sleep, will resume the battle tomorrow. Thank everyone for help
  17. I have menudrake open, but I don't know what to do with it
  18. I am in the process of learning the same thing. cd /home/kilimanjaro/updates/open-office you have to go(cd) to the directory where the file is. In this case it is in open-office tar -xvzf {OOo_1.1.0_LinuxIntel_install}.tar.gz In the parenthisis(don't include them) is the file name for this progam it made another file witch I then had to cd /newfile cd /OOo_1.1.0_LinuxIntel_install and then it is either ./install or ./configure I'm not sure which I try one or the other and see what works. I'm not sure if this is very clear, but it can be very frustrating! I have been learn how this work over the past few weeks. If you are new it is much easier to start with rpms if you can find them. Rpms you just download and then clivk on them. The hard part is making sure you have all of the dependentcies. If it helps you can check some of what I have been going through at http://mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=8425

I am trying to install mldonkey and it keeps telling me it needs perl(LWP::UserAgent) what is it and where do I get it. It is not listed in rpmdrake.
  20. I am using fluxbox and I know there isn't really a start menu. But when I right click and scroll down to office and then to word procceser I get OO 1.0.2
  21. I found the file in my home directory for OO 1.1.0 but my start menu still opens OO 1.0.2 what is going on ? I thought it would update OO. Is there something wrong? How do I change the start menu to the new version of OO
  22. I don't understand how to start it. It went through the big install where I registered, but its instructions I don't understand. Specifically page 31 of the pdf. Change to the {installpath}/program directory, or to the local OpenOffice.org directory in your home directory, and type: ./soffice You can also add the {installpath}/program directory to the program path, and then type "soffice" in any directory to start OpenOffice.org. To set up the default printer for OpenOffice.org, call the spadmin Printer Administration Utility, as is described in the Appendix. After completing the installation process under the Solaris OE, log out and log in again to update the CDE integration. I don't understand what it is telling me to do.
  23. It actually siad that installation was successful. I messed around with it until something happened. How can I tell if it is actually working? When I use openoffice it still says it is the 1.0.2 version. I had the same thing happen with gnutella where I installed the latest version, but there doesn't seem to be any difference and the version number hasn't changed.
  24. I'm sorry, but it really wasn't much help, because I really don't know what you are talking about.] I finally did manage to get it installed (I think) , but most of the time when someone gives me advice, they are assuming that I know the basic steps that led up tp what they are telling me. It makes a girl very frustrated. But, Thank you anyways.
  25. When I type cd install I get bash: cd: install: No such file or directory
