Thanks, Adam, for clarifying the situation.

This is more suited to Everything Linux. :)

It's easier if you can access the internet from the machine in question, but you can download the rpms to cd on another machine, then identify the cd or a folder on the new machine as a source.
I would wait for your new card if you can, and then install the latest updates before you install anything else, which may save you some problems.
If you have space problems, you can use compressed indexes - see the Easy Urpmi page, just before step 3.
The free/non-free PLF sources are distinguished by restrictions on the distribution of software in the non-free version. There is no charge for the non-free one. If you live in a country which is affected by these restrictions (principally USA), you can choose whether to use the non-free stuff. Those of us in the free world would select both... :P

Urpmi is included in the distro. Contrib and PLF are sources of unofficial, but generally trusted, rpms.
You can use the Easy Urpmi link at the top of the page to set up your sources for urpmi. :)

Ironically, 'installing Mandrake' was probably the right topic for this, spiny :)
Thanks, Adam. I've moved it back.
-
I wouldn't worry about having an 'official' version of the distro. :)
To get updates, use the Easy Urpmi link at the top of the page. This will help you to set up sources, then you can use the Mandriva Control Centre to update your system; or urpmi, if you want to use the command line. See the FAQ for more information.

Where do you find the repair tool ?
Steve Scrimpshire's repair script - it's pinned in Tips & Tricks. ;)

The European parliament has renewed its opposition to the software patents directive, reports The Register.

This thread has been closed with the agreement of Shadowchaser to prevent it growing like Topsy. :)
Please post your tips and tricks as separate topics. Thanks.
Edit: the thread has been reopened temporarily for adamw to post a warning.

this is what I get
How about urpmi kernel-2.6.11-6mdk?

Hi, tik. :)
I have removed your duplicate post from Installing Mandrake, as it can cause confusion.
If you don't get a response after a couple of days, just post briefly in the same thread to get back to the top of the heap. Like this. ;)
-
Hi, and welcome to the board. :)
I have merged your 2 threads to avoid confusion. In future, if you don't get a response after a couple of days, just post briefly in the same thread to get back to the top of the pile. ;)

The Observer has an interesting opinion piece on the state of IT in British schools.
Most British schools are hooked on networks that consist of hundreds of PCs running various flavours of the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software. Now it is perfectly possible to run an effective Windows-based network, just as it is possible to dig your garden using a teaspoon - provided you employ a hundred gardeners to do the work. -
manaba - I've merged your 2 threads, as it can get confusing. If you feel you're being ignored, just post again in the same thread to get back to the top of the heap. :)

If you installed Mandriva documentation, it should be on the menu somewhere. In 10.0, it's under Other Applications. Navigate to the Command Line Manual.
If it's not installed, you can view it at www.mandrakelinux.com/en/fdoc.php3. The very latest documentation isn't made available here, but the command line manual won't have changed much. :)

There's a driver listed at www.linuxprinting.org.
[You guessed right - we include drivers under Hardware. :)]

Sorry about putting in wrong forum.......
No problem - it gives me something to do.

Hi, and welcome to the board.
I have merged your 2 posts and moved them to Other Distros, as you're using Fedora Core. :)

My question is what command do I use to install the .diff file?
I'm no expert, but I think you need the patch command. :)

[steve@plus steve]$ whereis konqueror konqueror: /usr/bin/konqueror

I meant a small window integrated in mcc just a few lines wide. Duno, just a thought
It was like that in 9.1, if I remember rightly. :)
-
Would that include the page not reloading properly after you do a fast reply? Because that's really smegging annoying. :)
See my post in Forum Discussion.
-
In 10.0 at least, you can choose to Display Logs on the Options Menu in MCC...
-
I've deleted the extras. We're getting some strange effects after a board software update, so it's not your fault. :)
