  2. It seems Stephen Norris Capital Partners "and its partners from the Middle East" have fallen in love with SCO's "vast range of products and services":

"We saw a tremendous investment opportunity in SCO and its vast range of products and services, including many new innovations ready or soon to be ready to be released into the marketplace," said Stephen Norris, managing partner for SNCP. "We expect to quickly develop these opportunities, and to stand behind SCO's existing base of customers and partners."

SNCP has developed a business plan for SCO that includes unveiling new product lines aimed at global customers. This reorganization plan will also enable the company to see SCO's legal claims through to their full conclusion.

  3. Linux's ext4 filesystem, the successor to ext3, may well be the filesystem many of us are using a few years from now. Things have been relatively quiet on that front - at least, outside of the relevant mailing lists - but the ext4 developers have not been idle. Some of their work has now come to the surface with Ted Ts'o's posting of the ext4 merge plans for 2.6.25.

  4. Barracuda Networks includes ClamAV in some of its enterprise solutions. Trend Micro has been trying to get Barracuda to either pay license royalties for including ClamAV or stop using ClamAV in its products. Apparently, McAfee, Symantec and Fortinet have all settled with Trend Micro already, although the details are not public.

The patent is described as follows:

To decrease the risk of a virus entering and/or leaving a network, the ‘600 Patent scans for viruses and other undesired software at the gateway of a network. Moreover, because viruses may be embedded in the content (such as, for example, email attachments and other content from the World Wide Web), the ‘600 Patent scans the content.

Groklaw is assisting Barracuda with the search for prior art.

  5. Nice to know there is a command with a name that makes since...whereis...which just don't make since to me...

    From the man pages:

whereis locates the binary, source, and manual page files for a command.

which returns the pathnames of the files which would be executed in the current environment.

So - where is this file? but which file would be executed? :)
