I use 2.6.12.25 because I had a video card problem before with 2.6.14. I went back to 2.6.14 now, and the clock is fine as expected. Surprisingly, the video card problem also gone. Everything is fine now. Thanks for all the replies. Best wishes,

I have solve the "bootup" problem. Bow it is OK. But for the time problem, I understand it can be dangous to update a bios. Since a non-mandrake kernel gives the correct time (2.6.14.*), so I guess this problem should be able to solve within the "software" level. Is this possible? Best wishes,

While, it is getting worse now. I just want to try the other option "enable ACPI", then when I reboot machine, it stoped at ata1: dev 0 ATA, max UDMA/100, 488397168 sectors:lba48 and can not boot further. WHy does acpi cause this?

Hi I got a problem with the system clock. It is running faster and faster. When I rebooted the machine yesterday, it was ok in the beginning, then after a while, it was about 10second faster every 10minutes; then right now, it is more than 3 minutes faster every 10minutes, which is making me crasy. I have had this problem for a while. I sreached this forum and tried some instructions, but the problem was not solved yet. 1) I have "force no APIC" and "force no local APIC" selected, does not help; 2) I tried ntp, but as many guys mentioned, it sync the time only once when I reboot the machine, after that, it does not work; I tried ianw1974's suggestion by adding one more line in the /etc/ntp.conf, but neither options he gave work in my case. I am running ntpdate in cron every 10 minutes now, but since it is running faster and faster, I may need to run this command every minute. But there is still a problem, for example, when I want to type an "a", it may come out several like "aaaaaaa". That is crazy. My machine has AMD Athlon64 dual core, running mandrake 2006.0 (kernel 2.6.12.25). Linux only, no dual boot. I appreciate your help. Yong

Actually I believe that I also saw that before when I was searching for something else. Do you remember any hints which may be helpful for a search? I have removed all dkms following your earlier post and tried ati drivers from ati website. I removed dkms, tried ati drivers from their website. Still not working. :-( I tried mdk kernel yesterday: boot with the mdk kernel; /usr/src/linux to mdk kernel; "aticonfig" under this kernel. But it is not better than my own kernel. Why do you say that the problem is my self-compiled kernel? Is that posible to solve this? Should I remove this kernel from my computer? Thanks

I have to go back to the 2.6.14.5 kernel. The mdk 2.6.12.25 has been about 30 minutes faster than the real time after 5 hours' running. :-(

Can this related with "fglrx.ko.gz"? This is file was not been able to locate when I ran "urpmi dkms-ati". That message was ======= Error! Could not locate fglrx.ko.gz for module ati in the DKMS tree. You must run a dkms build for kernel 2.6.14.5wang (x86_64) first. =======

I installed the smp, and it is booting now. I saw the "ati instailation" when I reboot the computer. I just installed the mdk kernel 2.6.12.25 and its source by using below two commands: urpmi kernel-2.6.12.25mdk urpmi kernel-source-2.6.12.25mdk It seems that the installation was done successfully. The /usr/src/linux linked to this new source automatically; it also showed up in lilo.conf. Then when I reboot my computer using this kernel, it just stoped when I click enter (without loading anything); when try the old kernel 2.6.12.12, the same thing. What does this mean? I can not use mdk kernel?

With that kernel, my problem is, the system time is twice faster than the real wall. This makdes it very hard to follow files by date. So I switch to the present kernel. :-( Actually I have a 64 bit machine. I suppose I just need to use x86_64 instead of i586, am I right? By the way, what does the command do? compile the kernel? So I need to download the source in advance, right? And where should I put them? Thanks

I just rebooted my computer, it did not help. :-( I do have mandrake kernel on my machine. It is 2.6.12-12. But I got a problem with this kernel and I finally use the present one. I have Athlon dual core on my machine, with the old kernel, the system time is twice faster than the wall time, which is very inconvinent. I do not know if this has been solved in latest mandrake kernel? Are there compiled (or rpm) version available? How can I get it? Thanks

So maybe I need to compile the Mandrake kernel again? :-( I will try a little more and hope this kernel works :D I put the source in the directory and made the link. Do I need to re-install the ati drivers again? But I got "The package(s) are already installed" when I ran the command. And If I ran "aticonfig", it only listed all the options and "Parses an existing X-Server configuration file and modifies it to operate with ATI products." How can I fix this?

MCC gave the same results. :-( I got a compiled tar file from a friend. I believe he compiled that by his own. Then for the source code, I do not know how he got that. I have to ask him on Monday. By the way, do you mean that there are kernels in rpm form? Then maybe I will try that. Thanks

yes, the old kernel is still there. When I tried that, the diskdrake still works. Other than updating the kernel, I also did an update using "mandrakeupdate". Any idea? Thanks
