  1. If you are using urpmi instead of smart (as suggested by ffi) then try this in the shell, log in as root and type this

    urpmi.removemedia MDE

    Next you type

    urpme kdebase kdebase-common

You can remove ALL of your kde packages with this command instead, but I don't think this is necessary

    rpm -e --nodeps `rpm -qa | grep -i kde | grep 3.5`

After removing type this in the shell

    urpmi kdebase kdebase-common kdebase-kdm

Then you should be up and running again.

I've tried this my self and I don't use MDE as a reposity very mouch anymore ;)

  2. Hi and welcome on board

First of all you have to install some source lists.

    This is how to:

    1. Go to http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php

    2. Choose your system, and click proseed to 2

    3. Choose all boxes and click proseed to 3

    4. copy all in the new box

    5. Open konsole and log in as root, type su click enter, type your ROOTpassword click enter.

    6. Paste the linies you just copy'ed in to the konsole, wait for a few moment and then your maybe will have click enter once more.

    7. When konsole stops working click ALT + F2 type rpmdrake (you can find this under System => configuration => configure your maschine) in ther you now will have the opportunity to find and install new packages on your system.

All af this can be done in a graphical way, but it's not so easy as this ;)

I hope you can understand my danish/english translation.

  3. Thanks guys.

I installed the 96xx driver because I before did some problems with the 97xx driver on this graphic card.

This install has given me more problems than ever before, today I had to reinstall all kernels and that included afcause the kernel-sources too, but now it's running and my nephews are really excited over Compiz, and are right now bragging about the 3D-desktop to some friends, who are using Windows Vista.

Do anyone af you know if there is a guide to Metisse any where?

    Regards

    Orts

  4. I'm trying to get a computer up and running with Mandriva for my nephew's, but I can't get the nVidia driver to work for some reason.

    The graphic-card is a nVidia Geforce FX 5200 128mb

I have installed nvidia-96xx, dkms-nvidia-96xx, kernel-source-2.6.17-14 (kernel is 2.6.17-14) and other depending packages, but compiz/beryl and Metisse just won't work, when I run 3D-drake, it tells me that the system doesn't support 3D desktop effects!

I have tried to look in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and it look like this

    Section "Device"
    Identifier "device1"
    VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce FX - GeForce 7950"
    Driver "nv"
    Option "DPMS"
    EndSection

What do I need to change?

If you need anything els, just tell me to find it and please tell me how to ;)

I just can't figure this one out 3D desktop effect ussualy just work in a second.

    Thanks in advance

  5. This card should work with the MadWifi wireless drivers, however, I have not set these up and could not find good instructions so if someone else with experience could give some advice here...that'd be perfect ;)

Thanks for your answer, Jan (my friend) is not what I will call new with Linux, and he told me that he has tried almost anything.

    And he just can't get Mandriva to work with this network card, but he say's it work fine in Ubuntu and Fedora, so in my opinion it shall work with Mandriva too :D ;

But I will tell him about the Madwifi wireless drivers, maybe he hasn't tried them yet.

  6. but why not just use the prebuild mandriva packages from the repositories? It has 1.6.2 and I can't imagine a big difference between 1.6.2 and .3....

Mainly just for the fun of it.

I had never tried to compile a program, because I didn't dare to do it, I have always been afraid to mees up my computer if something went wrong.

But now I've got an old computer too, so I thought it would be a great idea if I tried to install so much as possible "the hard way" with out using rpmdrake. ;)

  7. Hi

I'm trying to install kofiice-1.6.3, but under the configure command I get this error:

checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.3 and < 4.0) (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation!

What do I need to install?

  8. Please try rpmdrake-3.62-1mdv2007.1.i586.rpm from testing - it's been reported to fix this. If it doesn't, please do file a new bug.

    Work's fine. Thanks.

How do i get this rpm? Should i add testing mirrors to urpmi or is there another way?

I just downloaded it from a testing repo, and installed it with the software installer.

But you can add testing to urpmi.

  9. Hi

I've just installed ntfs-support on my Mandriva, but I can't remember excactly which packages that where installed, so now I'm wondering if there is a log file from rpmdrak anywhere?

I can find 5 packages that where installed, but I'm pretty sure that that I installed 6 packages. :D

  10. Hi

I've got some problems finding a dokument, but I'm sure that i can remember some specific word inside it.

Is it possible to search for a specific word, when I'm using Linux?

In windows I have TotalCommander which can do it, but it would be great if there was a solution for Linux as well, it doesn't matter if I have to use the shell for it.

    Regards Orts
