I am trying to get my USB ports working with mandriva.. totally newbie... In particular I am trying to hotsync my Palm with kpilot. I can press autodetect in kpilot. It detects it as /dev/tty/usb01. I get the signal that it is hotsyncing and then the kpilot freezes... and i get an output on my palm about 2 minutes later stating that it the communication with kpilot was lost. Anyone know how to resolve this? I think it may have something to do with my USB setup...

Im not sure what packages cause the conflict.. but since its qt-devel, might be that the QT itself have conflict with its devel packages, how did you install QT? if you installed it via urpmi, then there should be no problem, but if you've installed it manually by searching rpm packages of it on rpmbone or similar, then that might be the cause of conflict....
THERE IS MY PROBLEM..... I installed from www.rpmfinder.net.... before i found out about urpmi.... NOW IT WORKS.. DONT USE internet rpm sites if you can avoid it!!!... i learned my lesson. Thanks A lot aioshin for all of your help

HAHA..... Dont break it because it is really annoying when it doesnt work!!!

hello... I am having a problem with the synaptics touchpad on my hp pavilion dv1000 laptop. I have gone into the kde touchpad setup and enabled taping but i can only tap on the right top corner... even that is quarky..(i have to tap that corner several times before it will accept the tap). I used the mandriva one disc tapping worked just like it did in (dare i mention it....) winxp. SO i am at a loss.. do i need to configure the xorg.confg file?? I am a total noob.. i have ksynaptics installed and i have qsynaptics installed too.. but i cannot figure this out ....
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks Nick

.
#urpmi libqt3-devel
This is what i get
[root@localhost nickbacich]# urpmi libqt3-devel The following packages can't be installed because they depend on packages that are older than the installed ones: libqt3-devel-3.3.4-23mdk Continue? (Y/n)
I always answer no since it is older than the one that is installed.
Should i say yes?

make sure you have installed qt-devel packages
I have just checked it
[root@localhost nickbacich]# urpmi qt-devel The package(s) are already installed The following package names were assumed: PyQt-devel [root@localhost nickbacich]#
Is PyQt-devel the same?

Okay i swear I have done this process once.... I uninstalled jre* and deleted it all from my filesystem...
then i reinstalled it....
and low and behold i get an rpm file to install!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY.... now i link it to my browser and it works perfectly!!!!
Thanks for the assistance!!
-
I've had exactly the same problem that you've experienced when installing directly from the bin file. It is a shell script which extracts and installs the jre....rpm file.
I would suggest, this:
...
This did not work for me... and i have already tried the java site for instructions. Now the program is locked! Hmm!!! I unfortunately do not have a Very strong programming background...
Thanks

okay here is my problem:
I have been trying to get java to work with mozilla 1.7
so i downloaded java from the sun site.
I copied the file to usr/Java/ and ran the program as it said in the instructions that I found here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/5000010500.xml
So i preformed the following actions:
# chmod a+x jre-1_5_0-linux-i586-rpm.bin
next
# ./jre-1_5_0-linux-i586-rpm.bin
now here is where an rpm is supposed to be created but i dont get an rpm created... i get:
jre-1_5_0-linux-i586-rpm.bin*
and a directory
jre1.5.0_01/
so i tried to install the plugin into my mozilla browser thinking maybe the rpm step may have been omitted.
Now i so next i changed the directory to my mozilla plugin directory
# cd usr/lib/mozilla-1.7.11/plugins/
then i tried to link the java directory to mozilla
# ln -s /usr/java/jre1.5.0_01/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so .
so i checked the directory to see if it was installed.. and it was listed there.
I obened up mozilla and tried to open a site to see if java worked and i got nothing... it was just the page stating that i need a plugin to install in order for java to work.
Any help?
oh yeah i also did the same installation for the usr/mozilla/plugins/ directory... as i read on here that someone else did the same and got java to work.
But it didnt work for me.
Any help at all would be apprecitated.
Thanks

Looks like you aren't doing something right, as automake/autoconf have absolutely no relationship with PLF.
And as I said before, to avoid making typos on the console, just copy from the browser with the mouse and rightclick, and paste to the console with shift+ins (it works for konsole, xterm, gterm and probably other terminals as well).
well before i was using one link in the easy urpmi setup. After i selected more of the download areas I got it to work!
I knew it was something that i was not doing correctly!
Thanks for all of your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering if there was a way to get that contrib file off and start over... I am about to just reinstall the whole OS and start from scratch.
well i did
#urpmi.remvoemedia -a
and got new up to date files from uk..
#urmpi autoconf
no package named autoconf
***** EDIT **** what I didnt do was use the plf part!!!!!!!! ****EDIT*****
NOW AUTOCONF IS INSTALLED!!!
Still lost and with out hope it appears.
Thanks

I am sorry but if I am doing something rediculous please hit me in the head!
here is my step by step
[root@localhost plugins]# urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/Mandrakel...6/media/contrib with media_info/hdlist.cz
medium "contrib" already exists
[root@localhost plugins]# urpmi auto
no package named auto
The following packages contain auto:
autodia
autofs
autogen
automake1.6
autopsy
autosmb
autosscep
autossh
autotrace
autozen
clusterautosetup-client
clusterautosetup-server
drakx-autoinstall-doc
libautogen0
libautogen0-devel
libautotrace3
libautotrace3-devel
xautolock
[root@localhost plugins]# urpmi autoconf
no package named autoconf
[root@localhost plugins]#
is it me??? am i the problem with linux?
-
Yep... tried that too....
# urpmi autoconf
no package named autoconf
anything else it could be?
By the way i think this post should be moved to: Terminal Shell Commands, Kernel and Programming
Thanks
-
I already did that... i was using that to install the missing files first. But when i could not find them i went to rpmfind...
When i search for autoconf in the Mandriva Control Center Install apps sections I get no results. so i went to rpmfind and rpm.pbone.net with no luck getting these apps installed... also it is looking for libxorg-x11-devel.. which i cannot get to install because of either autoconf, automake or zlib1-devel... i am really having a hard time.. it is like going to some government office and asking someone a quesiton... they send you to someone else... when you ask the person you were sent to they send you to another building... when you get there and present your question they send you back to the place you just left...
it is very frustrating
Does everyone have this much trouble with a new install????
thanks again

I have tried to get automake to work so that i can install kernel source.. but i am having a problem because it says that i have an unsatisfied autoconf2.5[>= 1:2.52]
I have tried to install automake and it tells me that it cannot install due to unsatisified autoconf2.5.. I have got the rpm from www.rpmfinder.net and it acts like it installs but i still get the error
whenever i am trying to install certain packages.
I have tried the command: urpmi autoconf2.5 and get no package named autoconf2.5....
I have looked it up in the MCC program.. but to no avail...
Please help me i am linux illiterate
By the way i am a noobie... if you couldnt figure that out!
Any help?
OKAY I am getting really frustrated with linux because i cannot get ANY packages installed!!... everytime i try... i get cannot install because of X.... where x = any number of packages that my computer does not have (from gcc, gij, zlib1, and a whole host of other packages). I try to get them and i cannot becase somewhere down the line it says that it needs autoconf2.5, automake or libxorg.x11 or... or.... I am getting a little upset over the whole situation..
I am a total noob... I am not one to give up easily. I would like to figure out what i am doing wrong... I am sure it is something pretty stupid on my part.
Any help would be greatly appreiated.
Thanks

urpmi zlib1 zlib1-devel
no package named zlib1
no package named zlib1-devel
dont know... is it a command i have to install?
-
Thanks I have gotten the urpmi working... That helps out a lot...BUT i am still having the problem of having something unsatisfied... specifically i am trying to install zlib-devel because x11-devel needes it... but it needs autoconf2.5.. i installed this and it still tells me that it needs autoconf2.5. I am sorry for being such an noob... BUT I do want to thank you for your patience and your responses. I think this is the most responses I have ever recieved on any board for any question I have asked (esp the windows boards)..... Thank you

Possibly install libxorg-x11-devel. Probably what it is looking for.
I keep getting error after error....
First it was ...
----------------------------------------------------
Sorry, the following package(s) can't be selected:
libxorg-x11-devel-6.9.0-5.6.20060mdk.i586 (due to missing libfreetype6-devel-2.1.10-9.1.20060mdk.i586)
----------------------------------------------------------
then i found the linbfreetype6-devel rpm then it said i was missing libpng-devel... found that and then it said that it couldnt install because i was missing zlib-devel then i found that and then it said that the urpmi database was locked ...
i tried to unlock it using
rm -f/var/lib/urpmi/.LOCK
but said file does not exist...
I am really trying... i think my distro is missing a huge part of the devel files....
I installed this from the mandriva one . Live install disc...
I dont know what to do.... I am a total noob... every time i try to install some thing it says there is something else it needs first
-
Okay i got much father... but i got:
-----------------------------------------------------------
checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!
-------------------------------------------------------------
what does that mean? \
I am sorry i am such a noob.... I just havent found any great sites that explain this stuff to me... I think i shall go buy a book on it this week....
