  9. Thanks in advance
  11. Hmmm, Interesting. Now for my piece, Mandriva is a good distro in my eyes so good that i have installed it on 2 comps @ home, I would have it on my new tower but it refuses to play ball so rather than pull my hair out and slag it off i chose another distro to put on it (you know the one they signed a pact with the Devil). Dont get me wrong i will never say its flawless nor perfect but it works for me and if not i either post my problem on a forum or do a google search. I have tried many distro's and after Mandriva, Kubuntu was my preferred distro (though like many sudo apt get was a bit long winded) there are some i thought O my god but i left it at that and never criticized them out lout nor on the web or in publications (not that i would want to). I can not get Beryl to run on 2007 I'm not bothered the GUI without it works fine for me its one of those things, I have a £70 new web cam that wont work on XP on my new tower (works a treat on my old one), even though i am not a big lover of XP i would not call it a bad OS nor criticize it because there are a few bugs that annoy, me thats life. Linux Distros to me are like vegetables, there are some you like for this reason, and some you hate for that reason, what ever the reason is keep it to your self and try not to deter others from trying it we all have different tastes, if anything i try and get people to try Linux not Mandriva nor Kubuntu but find one they like and stick with it, I have only been using Linux for little over a year i am no pro/guru but i would like to say is that i enjoy it, it has the things i need and some things i could realy do with like a dreamweaver Linux version (that will never happen?). Like ianw1974 Mandriva was one of my first distros and thats probably why i like it so much.
  12. I think they did mess up somewhere, i still cant get internet access on the pc for my son. I am sure i will get over it some how? Thanks
  13. Thanks for that i think we are both running the same version of OS, i have tried most of the day to get it up and running coincidently on my sons pc but to no avail and the funny part is i only bought that card because it was supposed to be supported by Linux? i will give it another try with what you have told me thanks
  14. I have a wireless card in another pc which has Ralink RT2561 chipset in it but Mandriva 2007 will recognise it only after installing the windoze driver for it i have set everythin up as per usual BUT i can not get online. In MCC it shows up as working fine but when i go to connect by clicking the icon on the task bar (dont know what its called sorry) it tells me my network name and also that it is down? whats causing that? thanks in advance

  16. I have installed this version of Mandriva, Mandriva Linux 2007 Spring RC3 'Beijing' and now i am having trouble installing beryl (and maybe nvidia again) i installed the nvidia driver thought mcc then followed this http://wiki.beryl-project.org/index.php/Install/Mandriva to get beryl working, when i open a console and type beryl-manager it restarts X. 17. Thanks for that it looks like i may have to do as you have advised because i completely removed windows of the pc
  18. I am currently using Kubuntu but i have to install windows along side it, without removing linux how can i do it so both OS's run side by side;. i have a 80g hd with no windows installed. Thanks in advance
  19. Look on the bright side 4 out of 7 M$ businesses are loss making, for every xbox they sell they lose $100 the only thing keeping them afloat on top of the companys 60 billion dollar fortune is Office and the operating systems they produce no matter how late they appear. It wont be long before people realise there are better alternatives out there. Who needs M$ office when you have Open Office saving you between £70 and a £100 not to mention the free open source OS out there. Who realy needs Vista? not me i am happy with what i have (laptop runinig Kubuntu tower running XP, graphics card prevents any linux install over xp even a live cd stalls) so something may have to give and maybe javaguy has a point? i am not a business man but i know that 4out of 7 products making a loss cant be very good for business no matter how big you are, and i think M$ may have to change with the times. I have 3 comps in my house 1 of them my sons why should i be forced into buying M$ office just because he uses it at school or the new OS just because the school has it? if the school were to use linux + OO and maybe a few other schools and goverment departments then William and M$ would have to look at there business and where will it stands in the future?. The more people that wake up to Open Source and its advantadges the better. 1 last point when xerox (i think) wrote the original windows os they gave it to bill and claimed it was not very good buggy and not suited for a computer (Ring any bells?)
  20. I am trying to convince a friend about the advantages of switching to Linux but not getting very far, in his attempt to furthermore advoid the switch even to dual boot or to go as far as trying the Debian and Ubuntu windows based installer he posted this to me. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/forbes/new...06/linux-losers the article is nearly 2 year's old so what i would like is some comments/feedback from the hardened/seasoned linux user regarding the article and some friendly advice/comments for my mate as to why he should go the linux way and not the m$ way. Thanks in advance
  21. Yeah thats what i meant gimp is just all over the place unlike Photoshop, got the link will DL later Thanks for that.

  25. If you are new to webdesign like possibly most of us you may find this site helpful http://www.webdesign.org/ ther are some good tutorials on html and css aswell as tutorials on all othe things web related and if you get bored of that then give this 1 a try http://www.tutorialized.com/. And in the future if you decide to do an update as most web masters do give these a try http://www.oswd.org/. Nice site by the way
