  1. what i mean is all these: 1) i don't find it on the start menu 2) when i type "kdevelop" on a shell or the run command, it does not exist. 3) When i go on the "install package", i don't find any package by the name kdevelop :(
  2. 1) when typing "top", i get a quite long table like. The 1st 2lines are as follows; top - 00:51:29 up 2:17, 3 users, load average: 0.00, 0.12, 0.26 Tasks: 86 total, 2 running, 83 sleeping, 0 stopped, 1 zombie could you explain me what the zombie means? In the link http://archives.mandrivalinux.com/newbie/2...08/msg00742.php, should i do the steps: If it is an Athlon install the athcool package and start the athcool service. Athcool puts the Athlon into low power mode when it is idle. It reduces my CPU temp by over 10 deg. If it is an Intel CPU edit /etc/modprobe.preload and insert the text speedstep-centrino cpufreq_powersave freq_table These modules will load at boot and enable CPU throttling on Intel CPUs. (you may need speedstep-ich instead of speedstep-centrino) Then install powersaved from the contrib mirrors and run the powersaved service. Powersaved will scale back the CPU speed whenever the CPU load drops. Its supposed to work on Athlons too, but I have always used athcool instead. ?? what is the address of the contrib mirrors?
  3. uuumm, i don't find the Kdevelop ide for c/c++. where is it, how is it's ide called?
  4. It is working It was already enabled. Btw how to ensure if it is properly configured? How?? yes i have kernel 2.6 i already got this warning 2times. Btw, it is very hot at my place and hence in my room. we are in summer, it is really hot. Is it because of this?? i noticed that my casing heated up quickly when it is hot in my room. And when it's a bit cold it does not heat up quickly. well, i will see this, and i will tell if anything is wrong.

Hi.. i had that problem with windows..so i checked with linux in the following sites: http://www2.montana.edu/desktop/rpc.htm And i saw that my operating system was displayed as linux/unix..so as per the statement on that site it says my pc is vulnerable to that attack. Is that true ?? can anyone discuss this..thanks! I have some more questions: 1) when i go on sites like: "www.findip.biz"..i see that still some private info are display...is there any way of hiding all this with mandriva 2006? 2) How do i ensure that i don't have ports which are vulnerable..etc.. I know this is too much asking..but in windows i have suffered a lot :( so now with linux/mandriva i want to be able to breath..lol Thanks for all your help and time!

  12. wow! great! thanks everyone! The mono project seems great! I have some questions: 1) Does mono suits intel pcs, that is i386 or i586 intel pentium families/architecture? I did not see this specification there, but i saw x86. But x86 is for solaris if i'm not mistaken?? or is it for 8086architectures? 2) Is eclipse a C++ compiler?? and C# means C-sharp, right? 3) Is there no grahical means to use a C++ compiler in Linux. The gcc/g++ works by command line interface. Is there alternative graphical interface like those dev c++ or mcv++ which works under windows? Thanks for all your time and help!
  13. Thanks ianw1974, the urpmi kernel-source was perfect! For the ADSL, I have tried the following with no result yet: 1) i have installed the lastest eagle-usb-2.3.2.tar.gz installation was successful! And in my icon lauch corner, the status of the little connection icon says : "Network is up on interface ppp0". BUT when i click on that icon, it lauches the connection interface and when i click on "connect ADSL", it says connection failed! 2) Now i installs the EagleConnect. Installation succesful: after EagleConnet.tcl configured, it says re-lauch EagleConnect, i click on ./EagleConnect.tcl again, BUT now it ask for a password. What is this password??? It is not that of my ISP, nor my login passwords, so what is that?
  14. no, i'm sticking to mandriva right now! for mandriva how should i install the kernel source? is it in the installaation cd or something?
  15. Hi! How can i do the following programming under linux? 1) C/C++ - i know it's something like gcc. But how to use it. IN windows, after compiling my codes, i get the whole files with the .exe on the folder of my choice. BUt in linux how do i get this? 2) VB.net and VB 6.0 3) Java - perhaps here need to download from the java website? I would really appreciate if i could get a detailed explanation since i'm really new to linux. Thanks! Regards!

  17. i have mess something up i think :( In command shells, when i first install the distro, it used to have: [username@localhost] - i think something like this.. But after i tried to "play" with the LAN configuration, now i get something like: [userame@x.y.a.b] where the x.y.a.b is the IP address of my host which i inserted on the LAN configuration. So how can undo all these things and get back to localhost?
  18. arctic ok, here is what i get! Btw, i have tried with both kanotix and mandriva. I get 2different results respectively, but still no connection! Note by: My ADSL-Modem lights (LEDs) are ON always with both! Now the results: With Kanotix: 1) /sbin/ifconfig lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:26 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:26 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:2236 (2.1 KiB) TX bytes:2236 (2.1 KiB) 2) ps xa|grep ppp 4816 pts/0 R+ 0:00 grep ppp 3) pppoe -I eth1 -A and 4) pppoe -T20 -I eth1 -D pppoe.log > /dev/null same result: pppoe: Timeout waiting for PADO packets *********************************** --------------------------------------------------------------- With Mandriva: (the results are really different from yours! See well ;) 1) /sbin/ifconfig ppp0 Link encap: Point-to-Point Protocol Conenction inet Addr: s.t.x.y P-t-P: s.t.x.u Maske:255.255.255.255 UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1492 Metric:1 RX packets:3 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 Collisions:0 txqueuelen:3 RX bytes:54 (54.0b) TX bytes:54 (54.0b) Then i also got some similar thind with lo & eth instead of the ppp0 2) ps xa|grep ppp 11002 ? R 0:00 pppoa -I eth1 11063 ? Ss 0:00 pppd lock modem crtscts asyncmap 00000000 default route usepeerdns updetach ipparam pppo linkname pppo call pppo noauth 11209 pts/0 R+ 0:00 grep ppp 3) pppoe -I eth1 -A Not found That's all what i got till now!
  19. arctic, 1) about the typo, i checked many times. So, i can assure that no typos. 2) I don't really know if my network blocks Linux, but i don't think so because i know that people use Linux on internet with my provider. 3) My cable cannot be "broken", because i am using it just right now to connect to the internet with windows. -------------------------- Now about the step-by-step "what i did" : Well, i thought kanotix detected my adsl..but i not sure, after trying all the possibilities: I analysed all the places in kanotix and i saw thses possibiltities to configure my adsl: 1) K-menu > kanotix > Network/internet > DSL 2) K-menu > Internet > Connect > ADSL/PPPoE configuration 3) K-menu > Internet > Knet -------------------------- Now in details: 1) K-menu > kanotix > Network/internet > DSL Here i got 3possibilites: i) Eagle PPPoE configuration ii) Fritz! Card DSL PPPoE Configuration iii) My PPPoE Configuration I eliminated the (ii) choice, because Fritz is not my adsl USB SO, i tried with (i) & (iii). Here is the what i got: a) With (i) It asks for PPPoE provider. By default there was "eagle" written. I let it like this and it ask for my login name & password as given by my ISP provider. BUt when i click connect adsl, then nothing really happens. Now i tried with "telecomplus" as the PPPoE provider - since "telecomplus" is my ISP. But here too nothing happens. b ) With the (iii) choice, i get a small pop window saying: ADSL config as header & the following message==> Error: no Access-Concentration found 2) K-menu > Internet > Connect > ADSL/PPPoE configuration Here it pops up a shell, then a small window which says: 'i found 2 ethernet devices: eth0 eth1 Are all your ethernet interface listed above? (If No, modconf will be started so you can load the card drivers manually) a) when i click on "Yes", it keeps on looking for 'PPPoE Access Concentration on each device.. Meanwhile the shell, displays==> Timeout waiting for PADO Packets Then the window says==> "Sorry i scanned 2 interfaces, but the Access Concentration of your provider did not respond. Please check your network & modem cables. Another reason for the scan failure may also be another pppoe process which controls the modem." b ) when i click on "No", it keeps on saying infinetly ==> "/usr/sbin/pppoeconf: line 177 : modconf : command not found" 3) K-menu > Internet > Knet Here, i see DSL setup among other setup like Dial-up, scripts, Network card..etc.. When i click on DSL setup, the window disappears and another small window pops with the header: "Knet - The KDE crash Handler" The message in it was: Short description (1st title) The application knet crashed and casued the signal 11 ( SIGSEGV ) What is this? (2nd title) An application mostly receives the SIGSEGV signal due to a bug in the application. Then i get a 3rd title which says i can report this bug. then i say No. These were all that i did!
  20. ok, thanks ianw1974! arctic, i tried the kanotix livecd as you suggested. It detects my usb adsl sagem 800. it ask for username and password too as you would expect, but when it i click to connect, then nothing really happens. I don't understand whats the prob here? :( (btw, is kanotix just a livecd version?? no hard disk install? i downloaded the full version one with 699Mb size. but still it says it a livecd..) Anyone's suggestions and help are always warmly welcomed ;) Regards!

  25. Oh man, i'm tired with all this! I took 2whole days trying to set up this ADSL and Mandriva!!!!. I have formatted and re-installed almost 30times. I fed up and tired now. :( Pleas please i badly need help right now. Here is what problems i got: 1) With installation of 3CDs Mandiva 2006 (i) When installed 1st cd, i get this error: there was an error installing packages: xorg-x11-75dpi-fonts-6.91.cus20050915.2mdk.i586 I clicked "continue anyway" (ii) When installing 2nd Cd, i get this error: there was an error installing packages: gnome-terminal-2.10.0-1.mdk.i586 still I clicked "continue anyway" Then after some few seconds, i get this: there was an error installing packages: libkdemultimedia-noatun-3.4.2-10mdk.i586 //but the installation was done nevertheless! 2) Now i after a problem*(i will tell you below), i re-clean install mandriva. (i) When installed 1st cd, NO error! (ii) When installing 2nd Cd, i get this error: gnome-terminal-2.10.0-1.mdk.i586 still I clicked "continue anyway" 3) now again re-clean install after that same problem*. ==>this time i get an error on 2nd Cd installation: there was an error installing packages: libkdemultimedia-noatun-3.4.2-10mdk.i586 So each time i get like a recurive problem!!!!! That's irritating! NOW, what's thatcaused by the ADSL!!!!!!! The system detected my USB ADLS SAGEM 800 perfectly! I configured it under every possible option given there + reading the help guide too! BUT no connection was ever possible!!!!! And when i reboot, each time, reboot fails because of a failure in detecting i don't what interface for the ADSL!!!!!! And that's why i have to re-install upto what i said!! I took patience and install that stuff almost 30times! I'm not joking, i was so desperate to get my first ever linux distro to work! But unfortunately i'm very very very disapointed!!! I left my pc like it is with no OS on it..i'm fed up. I'm posting from my cousin's pc... i will staying rit here for some moments if someone can help hopefully... :( I badly want to be able to run a linux distro successfully with all stuff working :( please help!
