Yeah, the linux kernel i meant. But has anyone re-written the kernel in other languages other than C/assembly, like in C++ or Java?? Or is the kernel being just updated and customized as it is?

hi... The way to burn iso images using nero 6 is as follows: 1- Open your "smart nero" 2- Choose "Copy and Backup" from the vertical top menu 3- Now under it, you will get many options. So now choose the option "Burn Image to Disc". ==> ONce you click on this option, a small window will pop up (just like the window when you click 'Browse"; by default i think it will be pointed in "My Documents"). From that window, just find your ISO images in it's residing folder, select it and click "Open". 4- Then you just have to click on "Next" on your nero menu to burn the ISO. Then are you done! 5- Now re-boot with CD(assuming your boot option in BIOS is set to boot your CD first). This should work!! Side Note: 1) You will be asked for a password when using the LiveCD. The password is either "root" or "guest". 2) I have used the liveCD of Mandriva, ubuntu and kanotix with pentium 2,3 and 4. These LiveCd only worked best with pentium 3 & 4. (at least from what i have seen personally) ~~~ All the best! ~~~ Regards!

I get this problem: urpmf --name mono problem reading hdlist or synthesis file of medium "main" i got this also for kdevelop..and when i browsed the package, i didn't find the mono and kdevelop packages..

I have browsed the moneo site, but i did not find any rpm for madriva. I download the version "All distributions" here: http://www.mono-project.com/Downloads But after installation when i lauch mono, it says a file is missing, something like this..so it does not run :( Have anyone else used mono on madriva2006? The checksums were all good! Can anyone help with this please? i need to do some VB.NET programming.. Thanks!

I don't find anything about ICMP on my router configuration page :( 1) Is there anything else that can be done to prevent ICMP broadcast? 2) Is this vulnerability really serious?

I have tested my security on the link on the faq : https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 I came to know that my pc has the following vulnerability: Ping Reply: RECEIVED (FAILED) — Your system REPLIED to our Ping (ICMP Echo) requests, making it visible on the Internet. Most personal firewalls can be configured to block, drop, and ignore such ping requests in order to better hide systems from hackers. This is highly recommended since "Ping" is among the oldest and most common methods used to locate systems prior to further exploitation. Please can you help in blocking those ICMP?? My shorewall is set to level: "high" and i have even said NO in the configuration where it says "do you want to broadcast ICMP echo/pings...something like that..But still no +ve result. Thanks!

ok, i'm fed up with IDEs.. i'm using command line ;) but when i compile it creates .exe output..so how to run that? i mean how can i view my output since the .exe is cannot be open in linux? :( can anyone help please? ----------- output problems solved!

you guys are really coool :D Btw i have browsed and read infos about kde and kdevelop. i have understood that in kde 3.4 and 3.5 (in mandriva2006 there i got kde3.4) there has not been a version of kdevelop for mandriva linux. And hence that is why i have not got the kdevelop package. Plz arctic could you confirm on this? I have downloaded a version of kdevelop3.0.0 which was suited for kde versions below 3.3 i think. But it was not properly installed :( Regards!

Still NO success with kdevelop :( i have browsed google and come across an ide which seem to be good. It's name is VIDE : http://www.objectcentral.com/vide.htm 1) What's your opinion? 2) I have download it's .gz . BUt i'm having problems with installing it. I'm not familiar with installing tarballs. Can you (or anyone here) help? So far, i have only do this: tar -xzvf vide-linux-2.00.tar.gz And this has created a folder named "Home". In this folder i have another 2folders named 'Bin' and 'Help' respectively. In the Bin i have these '.exe' files: vgen, viconed, vide and a file named as 'vide.xpm'. In the help file, the installation guide is too straight forward for me :( I have browsed eclipse, anjuta..but these need their own frameworks. Why use them, when we already have a gcc/g++ compiler already available. All i want is a simple ide to write my codes and compile them by linking the ide with the gcc/g++ compiler.
