  1. oops there must be a limitation on my file sizes. I'll upload then elsewhere sometime. They're all from DeviantArt. you might be able to search for the name to find them. They're worth it. I'll let you know when i upload them.
  2. I'm not a big fan of KDE or Gnome. I use Enlightenment. Try it sometime. It's on CD2 of MDK 9.0 and 9.1's install. There are some really good skins for enlightenment at: http://themes.freshmeat.net/browse/60/?topic_id=60 Skins for other WMs including KDE http://themes.freshmeat.net/ and a must have to have a good looking desktop is a background. And for those you can't go past. Look at the abstract section. Brilliant www.deviantart.com Hava a look at my desktop at http://iphitus.netfirms.com/ I have all the wallpaper for it there for download. I got themes at Freshmeat and Wallpaper at DeviantArt. I've got two new themes as well i haven't uploaded. And a goodlooking MP3 player is a must. If XMMS is your choice, you can use Winamp 2 skins with it (not 3). http://classic.winamp.com/skins/ good luck James email if you want to know any more rcxau[at]yahoo.com.au
  3. Earlier on you said you were unsure of how to install with urpmi It's so easy Before you start you might want to visit. http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/urpmiweb.php and add sources. It'll give you the commands. If you've done that, it's as easy as su then typing as root urpmi programname for example urpmi galeon It downloads and installs everything including dependencies. Or uses CD's if you have the souces enabled. I have cable internet and i love it. I'm one of those people who tries heaps of software. Anyway goodluck James
  4. i did find this: http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/explore2fs.htm it gives you a "windows explorer" view of your linux partition (ext2) with drag and drop and more. However the write support is unreliable and could stuff things up and there is still a risk with the read too. I don't think it works on XP/2000. However there is sure to be a driver or something out there that'll let me use it as a normal drive, safely. I don't want to lose anything. I did find one but it only worked on NT4. Lost the site now. James
  5. This is for a dual boot computer. No network. I just want to be able to read my files from within winblows. Isn't samba a network based solution?
  6. Hi I have my linux partition (ext2) and i would like to be able to read/write them in windows. What programs can i use?
  7. Yes i know about gaim and used it for a while however i can't send files Kopete wan't too bad but was very unstable. So i'm using KMerlin. Thanks

  11. Is there anything i can use to save my documents in KWord in M$'s Word DOC format? I need to do this as i need to share documents with those who have not seen the light. I can open Word documents in KWord but can't save, i looked in the dropdown box on the Save dialog, no M$ word option. I can't use RTF or any other formats, needs to be Word. What can i do? IS there anything i can use? Thanks James

  15. In 98 I just ran the install for the modem driver, it asked if i would be using USB or Ethernet (i went ethernet, I can't use USB) and it installed. I then got the optus CD out and installed that. It setup everything for me. It asked for my username and i gave that. So pretty easy. James

  18. HI is there an Australian Mirror i can download the MDK9.1 CD 1 ISO from? There is none listed on the Mandrake home page. Thanks James
  19. Is there a native linux executable for Half Life. Can i use the server version to play singe player offline games? I have a windows cd accessable. I don't want to use wine. thanks rcxau
  20. Be careful. I have the same problem, i want to install GLIBC2.3 for a few programs. Once you get the glibc2.3 rpm it starts a string of dependencies. DON'T be tempted to force a RPM install of GLIBC. I speak from experience. It does NOT work. I lost everything on my linux partition. Fortunately i keep my files on my Winblows partition so they are accessible in both. A workaround is to download the source for a program and compile yourself. A few instructions are below. Good luck rcxau I am a newbie too, it seems daunting but is really simple. Most times all you need to do is open a console and cd to the directory whre you downloaded the source source tar.gz and type tar -xzvf sourcefilename.tar.gz look for the readme file with konqueror or your favorite text editor (for me joe or jpico)and it will normally contain instructions. A compile and install is usually to cd to the directory you expanded the tar.gz to then make Might need to su and type in your root password and then make install [/i]
  21. Thanks i have it fixed It has very very small outward curve on each side that only affects my panel that i am fine with, the curve is barely visible. I used xvidtune to fix it, another friend of mine also reccomended it. Thanks heaps, you all helped James
  22. Hi I have been hidden from details like this by Winblows "friendly(?)" interface. I am not sure whether this is what you asked for, it's out of the technical detail section of the manual. James Out of Monitor's manual Available at http://www.hp.com/cposupport/manual_set/bph07336.pdf or in HTML http://216.239.37.100/search?q=cache:oU7Nn...&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 HP D5258A Pavilion M50 15 inch display M50 Display Information Picture tube 15 in (38.1 cm), 90° deflection, nonglare, black matrix, light transmission 57% phosphor P22 medium short, 0.28 mm dot pitch Maximum viewable area 280 mm (H) x 210 mm (V) 11 in (H) x 8.25 in (V) // Is this it? 23. It doesn't really work with wine. I want to use something like Bochs, Plex86, DOSemu, PCemu but i don't know which to use or how to set it up. rcxau
  24. What is the best emulator to use to run MinGW in linux It needs to --Be easy to install (preferably rpm) --Only needs to emulate the compiler and associated tools. --I have a PII300mhz 160mbram, Mandrake 9.0/Win98 I want to be able to compile my windows programs as WIndows programs but under linux. I would like to use an emulator to emulate my compiler (MinGW C/C++) so i don't need to use windows. I need this as i have something called the F3C, the Freefoote foundation classes, a C++ wrapper for the Windows API, similar to MFC. I like it better than MFC. The F3C is only known to work with MinGW. I will test my programs under Wine, they are pretty simple. Thanks a heap, this is the only thing keeping me to using Windows rcxau
