  1. Hi I did not create this myself, I plugged the USB HDU in and it showed up. The changes mentioned by scarecrow, do I enter them directly in fstab or do i umount and mount again? What is udev?
  2. Hi there, Thanx for the answer, I will not be in front of my Linux box in the next 3 days, but will try when I get back. I am well aware that it is read-only which is ok. I just want to read the files. I do not see nls anywhere in the file - is this a newbie thing? Where would be the right place to add "user"? How do I find out if I use unicode by default? These questions might be awfully simple but I am still new. Thanx again!
  3. Just doublechecked by booting win XP - it is NTFS.
  4. Yes, Believe it is NTFS mentioned as sda5 below. # This file is edited by fstab-sync - see 'man fstab-sync' for details /dev/hda5 / ext3 noatime 1 1 /dev/hda7 /home ext3 noatime 1 2 /dev/hdb /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0022,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec,users 0 0 /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs umask=0022,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda6 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/sda5 /mnt/Ny_enhed ntfs pamconsole,exec,noauto,utf8,iocharset=iso8859-1,managed 0 0
  5. Thanx, but I still have problems: I logged in as root and everything on the USB HDU works. I can read all files and folders as root. But it will not let me change permissions. Even as root it resists to change permissions. How can that be?
  6. If I right click, properties, it is marked as a locked folder.
  7. I do use other USB devices - a mouse. When I plug it in nothing happens. If I open Konqueror I can see it in /mnt as sda5, but I get a message that I do not have "permission". What to do?
  8. How do I configure Mandriva 2006 to read files from my external USB HDU? Caution, newbie in action here!
  9. Thanx - installed 2.0 and removed 1.1.5 afterwards. Everything seems to work, but need to reorganize some menus and icons in KDE, will take care of that later. Hey, coming from Win XP it is really cool how you can start an installation, continue working with whatever application and no re-boot is necessary! Love this OS!
  10. Thanx for quick reply. I can change to ALSA in KDE control but Amarok sound stopped after I did that. Seems Amarok engine is only Arts or Xine, Gstreamer or No engine. Wouldn't Amarok then need ALSA as engine too?
  11. I installed aoss, and got an error message, chose yes to continue, and seems nothing has changed. I did not reboot, but restarted skype. Error message: The following packages have bad signatures: aoss-1.0.9-1mdk.i586.rpm: Missing signature ((no key found)OK) libalsa-oss0-1.0.9-1mdk.i586.rpm: Missing signature ((no key found)OK) Do you want to continue installation? (I chose yes) Might need to install earlier version? THANX
  12. I am also new in Mandriva 2006. Amarok worked fine for a long time playing my mp3 on my Windows partition. Suddenly I got this error - see screenshot. My laptop has the AC-97 sound. (No special sound card) How do I get closer to what this problem is? Some of my mp3 files are bad, so maybe it is just the mp3 file that caused the crash?
  13. Hi I just installed Mandriva 2006 and it comes with OOo 1.1.5 Since 2.0 is out, I would like to update but do I uninstall the old 1.1.5 first - how? I opened the control center and there are so many packages with OOo2.0. How do I know which one to pick? Thanx
  14. Hi, I have a similar problem to anand's experience with skype. Mandriva 2006 - Skype is perfectly installed and seems to function except from everytime I try to make a call it says "problem with sound device" I read in another thread about making a link to or from dev/dsp/ But I do not know how to do that. What could this problem be?
  15. I do not know if I did this right at all, but seems weird. See screenshot.
  16. IT WORKS - THANX!!! but still do not know if the DNS are correct - how do I find that out?
  17. etc/resolv.conf looks like this: nameserver 167.206.245.10 nameserver 167.206.245.9 nameserver 167.206.245.74 If I run the update it says that some updates cannot be installed - see new screenshot. But I do not know how to figure out if that is the right thing. Thanx for helping!
  18. I am completely new and I have this problem. I successfully installed 2006 on my laptop hp zd8000. Everything seems to work, but everytime I use application that connect to www I get a small box in the top left corner saying (Could not find usable proxy configuration script) but Mozilla and Konqueror works fine. The system update function keeps changing from "busy" to "Updates are available" I right click on it and select "install updates". I am prompted for my root password and then NOTHING happens. I successfully registered and logged into my mandriva account. Why is that?
