  1. I think the laptop is about a year old. P4 2.2 chip, 256 meg of ram. This laptop will be Mandrake only. I've 9.2 CDs but the drive doesn't like my burned copies even though they work great on all the desktops. So that is why I'm going for the betas right now until I can get a different set of 9.2s. Thanks, Wriker
  2. Hello: I recently got my hands on a Compaq Presario 1500T laptop that had a blank harddrive. I installed Mandrake 10 beta without trouble, but when I rebooted the laptop it hung at configuring kernel parameters. From my research on the web it could be the sysetm clock, not sure. I'm trying to set the time in the bios of this machine but there doesn't appear to be a way to do so. My questions are: 1.) Does hanging in this spot mean their is a problem with the system clock? 2.) Is their possibly another cause? I've loaded different kernels with the same luck. 3.) Is there something missing in the BIOS as in a SOFTPaq from Compaq? I've checked their site and I'm not sure this machine has one of those (Softpaq being a part of the bios located on the harddrive). Any tips or suggestions would be very helpful. I appreciate your taking the time to view this post. Thanks, Wriker
  3. I downloaded it and tried it. I love it. Though I test many different distros all the time, I usually stick with Mandrake. This is no different. Now I have a tool that will allow me to go into a friends home and run Mandrake without adding another harddrive or installing it on their main drive. It will be easier to change the world! LOL
  4. This is really cool news! I hope we hear about more stuff like this in the near future. Wriker
  5. I gave out the information in case someone might be experiencing troubles and haven't made the connection, experimental or not it was just an informational post. And who's to say I haven't contacted the creator. Wriker
  6. I installed the Gold 3D cursor from KDE-Look.org and have experienced some wierd stuff. My story: I started off with a Radeon card when I installed it. All seemed to be working fine until I noticed that X occasionally would grab 99% of my CPU and not let go. I thought it migbt be a bug in X so did some exploring. Nothing found. I let it go like this for a while until it started getting worse. I had been using Blender in my other box but wanted to move it to my more powerful box with the Radeon card. I installed Blender but it would not run for very long. Apparently, it doesn't work with the Radeon cards in Linux (If anyone knows different, please tell me how). So I pulled the GForce card out of the 3D box and installed it on the machine I call Blue. I grabbed the latest drivers from NVidia and went about my business. Lo and behold the locks ups were still happening. I was a little peeved by this. I was starting to think I would have to drop back to 9.0 (ddin't want to, 9.1 kicks major butt). This is when the light went on in my head and I removed the cursor. No more runaway X and my machines performance jumped considerably. I put the cursor back and it started again. I'm not knocking the cursor, but I wonder if X is having problems with this. Thought someone might like to know. Wriker
  7. That's what I ended up doing. I'm curious why this isn't working though.
  8. Hi gang. I'm having some trouble with Zip in 9.1. When I have a file I want to zip, I right click on it and it gives me the option to "Zip File" but when I do it does nothing. I can zip by command line but not in the aforementioned method. Is there a bug, something I'm not doing right? Also, wasn't there also choices to use ARK as a method of compressing files? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Wriker
