  1. Thanks very much for your help! It's all working dandy now on to my next problem :-)
  2. Hi All, I'm trying to get the mail command to work. I don't want to setup my own mail server, I just want to use mail to send outgoing mails from the command line or from scripts. I was hoping to set mailrc and main.cf to use my web hosts mail server. so I set main.cf myhostname = <smtp.server> am I going in the right direction? I now get a warning and the machine hangs: postdrop: warning: unable to look up public/pickup: No such file or directory thanks in advance
  3. Great reply, exactly what I needed - reading the security.txt will have warded off a few other problems too! thanks!!
  4. Hi guys, wow, big learning curve here, but I think I'm starting to understand things. I've just upgraded my mandriva msec security level to 4 and when I try to SSH into my box the session dies without any error or message. I've tried the man pages etc for SSH but I'm thinking something I don't know about has changed with the security settings (I used to be able to login at level 3). Any ideas where to look or what to read? many thanks. Ant [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  5. Thanks soooo much, just having Flex installed did the trick!
  6. Hi all, I'm trying to install fetchmail - I want to be able to remote log into my machine and check mail through pine. After installing openSSL, procmail and yacc - I'm getting an error saying I don't have lex. I did the full install of mandriva 2005, so am quite suprised at having to install pine and fetchmail. Should these things already be installed? If not, does anyone know a source for Lex, I've tried googling and freshmeat... thanks
  7. Nice one - thanks. downloading now :-)
  8. Thanks folks! I tried both suggestions and get the same errors. I've found nano, which appears very similar and has the added advantage of installing :-) thanks again.
  9. Hi all, I've searched high and low for a tutorial on this but really can't find one. On booting mandriva I go to a command line login first. At this login point I would like to see a quote from a .txt file I have. Fortune is up and running at /usr/games/fortune - I've tried adding /usr/games/fortune to /etc/rc.local but nothing... not sure what else to try to even get fortune working, let alone getting fortune to use one particular quote file. thanks in advance - any help welcome...
