  1. Release Notes and Errata are both dead links as of time of this post.
  2. I am in X now. Unsure why it wasn't letting me log in as root. I should check if I can now that I am in...
  3. HURRAY! I am in! Now to download and install these drivers.
  4. Ok I will give that a try. :D Thanks! artic: Yeah I can't even log into root. Keep getting a login incorrect error. =_=
  5. Sorry about posting. >< I just tried installing LE 2005 and it instantly gives me a black screen when I enter the installer.
  6. Well, I don't understand. When test the driver I select in install, it works perfect, but when I boot, black... And I tried setting the CPU speed back to normal. No difference.
  7. Ok... how do I compile them into my kernel? *currently trying to figure out how to get the drivers onto the pc* I am reinstalling it again to see if perhaps my pc glitched during install. Seriously doubt it did but I do hope it did. *EDIT* Now that you mention it, it might have to do with my overclocking. I think I will undo my overclocking and just give the CPU some more juice. :P
  8. It's worth mentioning that when I try to login as root, it gives me a login failed error and when I try to run XFdrake, my screen goes black. :S *EDIT* I hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE and it printed to screen and went through standard reboot. Odd...
  9. From what I can tell this might be a really common problem. I was sick of fooling around in Vista, so I downloaded the DVD ISO and burned it to disk at the slowest speed I could (2X takes forever ><) and it installed like a charm. I was super happy and rebooted. New bootloader looks awesome. Then my screen flashes and then is black... suffice to say it's a bit annoying, as this is my main PC. Hopefully I can just change a setting or two somewhere and it will fix it. Here are my specs: AMD Sempron 2400+ (currently overclocked up to 2800+) ATi Radeon 9200 AGP 1 GB PC3200 If you need the rest I can post but I doubt anything else would cause any trouble. Thanks in advance!
  10. We are pretty sure that it's not compatible. It's a Linksys 2.4GHz Wireless router, and his pc has something similar to a wireless bridge hooked up to it, which is connected by a ethernet cable to the Linksys Fast Connect Ethernet Card.
  11. Well I just found out that my best friend's router won't work with Linux and both him and I are really mad. He wants to know how to reinstall Windows 98SE on his pc, which he will then upgrade to XP Home. I know this probably isn't the right place for this but I was unsure where it would go.
  12. Haven't you ever used a Debian based distro before? apt is the way, but I don't think this is a suitable thread to explain how apt works... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Before today I had only used Mandriva. :P Mandriva wouldn't load on this pc due to it's current RAM size, so I am using DSL. I will try using that and post what my results are in a few minutes.
  13. Ok I have a new problem. How in the world do I install DSL packages? lol
  14. It fixed it!!!! Now I can sleep. I wonder if GAIM will run on it? I had to reinstall DSL cus I crashed it (low memory is a huge problem).
  15. Well I tried unplugging the mouse and it still won't boot. It hangs up in the same spot. I could try taking out the old ISA sound card. Maybe that would fix it... *EDIT* Sorry for not being specific about what DSL was. ><
  16. Umm I had originally partitioned the drive using DrakX on another machine. That's the thing though. My pc freezes immediately after it finishes Auto Configuring. I put the hard drive into another machine and installed it from there. I then put the hard drive back in and no different results.
  17. It is hanging up right after it Auto Configures hardware. Any suggestions?
  18. Well I am not sure if every computer I build hates Linux or what. My current patient comes in the form of a slightly modified IBM Aptiva, which is about 6 years old. For those who don't know what an Aptiva is, here are some specs: AMD K6 3D 350MHz ATI Rage Pro 4MB AGP built-in video 32MB ram (wish I still had a few PC100 sticks to spare around here sleep.gif) 1.5GB Western Digital Cavier 360000 HD an old Creative SoundBlaster ISA (very old but it supposedly works) a DVD drive by who knows who (lol) a brand new Linksys Ethernet PCI card. The motherboard is an IBM spinoff of the ASUS P5A-VM, which is a microATX with built-in sound. Anyways, I burned DSL to a cd and then booted up my pc with it and it seems to boot fine but it stops at the detecting hardware screen. Help?
  19. I caught it but forgot to make note of it here. Does anyone know what it means when the CAPS LOCK and SCROLL LOCK LED's flash on and off when loading DSL?
  20. The CD's are fine. I have used them several times before. They are Mandrake 9.0 CD's though and I had just made it to the CD's LILO and selected install when it crashed. I just took out my HD from that computer, stuck it in my Win2K pc, and hopefully I will be able to load DSL onto this thing. I would like Mandriva but I have a feeling that my RAM is too low.
  21. Well now I seem to on a PC rebuilding marathon. I recently pieced back together my old AMD K6 350MHz, ATI Rage Pro 4MB AGP built-in video, 32MB ram (wish I still had a few PC100 sticks to spare around here -_-), 1.5GB Western Digital Cavier 360000 HD, an old Creative SoundBlaster ISA (very old but it supposedly works), a Ricoh CD burner, and a brand new Linksys Ethernet PCI card. The motherboard is an IBM spinoff of the ASUS P5A-VM, which is a microATX with built-in sound. Basically it's a low end IBM Aptiva built in 1999, with some mods. Here is my dilemna: I went to run the installer and it hung up. I didn't see what the minimum system requirements are, but I am hoping I am slipping just above the bar with this pc.
  22. Allright thanks! I have regained my faith in Linux and have contemplated installing it on my personal pc. Thanks again guys! My friend is gonna be stoked. The pc is literally about 5 times more faster than it used to be.
  23. Well now this is a real dilemna. I unchecked stuff and now I don't have DSL internet ability anymore. Everytime I go to start HalDaemon inside Linux, Linux literally freezes. :S I am gonna see if I can boot with it because I am pretty sure that I need it to use DSL.
  24. Thanks guys! This helps a bunch! I am just gonna remove anything that keeps it from booting and then make a note to have my friend start it up once it boots.
  25. Well when I rebooted it still hangs up but this time it was at Display Manaager. Grr.... I will figure how to get this thing to boot.... *EDIT* And the results are in folks! I have reason to believe that one of the following services is keeping me from booting: Numlock (it hangs up here for a good 10-30 seconds sometimes), and Rawdevices. Also, is there a way I can keep services from loading at bootup and just start them manually in Mandriva?
