  2. Hi Still new in Linux. Everything is working better everyday and I want to that Linux and all the guys out there for really putting effort into something that is free. MY PROBLEM When Kmail show a html mail it cuts out all of my images. Even the background is just shown as an icon that I can open if I would like to see how it would have looked like. I HAVE TRIED I have read through all of the things on Kmail, and changed a lot of stuff that really helped me, but I can not get this setting. It is hiding from me. I did get it right to open html without giving a choice. Obviously I am just uninformed. I know it is probably just a setting. Please have mercy on me! :P Thanx for your help. Kowash
  3. I suppose so, and then set a root password Seriously, it's a very very good idea!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, thanx for that. I did not know that the username for root was root. It worked wonderfully. Once again I learned something. Offcourse I still have the same problem, the only difference is that I can log into that localhost631. I don't know how to set up a printer manually Please help Kowash
  4. No offence taken. I must admit. I feel stupid cause I know it is something really simple that I am missing. I don't want to sound stupid but what is su? I have tried the same password as I use for my root and log in. I did not set up any other pwords? Thank you for the help Kowwash
  5. Thanx, you are 100% correct I still am not able to log in with my root uname and pword
  6. Hi Still sort of Newbie. MY SETUP I have a P3 500mhz Mecer Notebook connected via ethernet to my XP box AMD 1700mhz. The LAN is connected through a router (8 channel switch). My HP 1010 and HP 5150 is connected seperately to my XP Box by USB cables. I AM ABLE TO My network is working properly and I am able to browse in both directions. I am also able to browse the internet through my XP Box. MY PROBLEM. I am unable to set up any printer through SAMBA because it does not detect my printers. It detects my PDF printer, and that is it. I'VE TRIED I have tried to do the "localhost:631" in the Firefox webviewer and it returns a SAMBA page that I am unable to use because I don't know the Pword and username. My log in info does not work. I have done the "smbclient -L office" ("office" is my server name) command in my terminal program. It shows both my printers. I have also read that Windows (bless their hearts) have a batle with working with sharing if the computer name and user name is the same. My computer name is SILVER and my user name kowash. MY SOLUTION I understand that I have a problem with my CUPS according to what I have read. Can anyone help. PLEEEEAASE Kowash

  8. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid, Stupid............................. I made a huge mistake. I feel really dum and sorry for wasting your time. Last night one of my friends (that come and connect to the internet) came to visit. For some reason he couldn't ping me. When I investigated, I realized that my ip was changed by some ................ microsoft error. I corrected the mistake and after he left, I tried to ping the winxp box from my linux laptop. Once again it did not worked. I realised my stupidity and went back and changed the last two settings I made (boot loader). This morning when I got to my office (after they restarted) I tried to ping again. and ................................ wallah I get a response. Sorry for making such a duuuuuuuuuh mistake but I really didn't think that my IP was changed......for some reason. I hope you can just tell me now. What response should I get. At this stage my ping response is 64 bytes from 192.168.1.101 (winxp box): icmp seq=1 ttl=128 time=0.312 it is just running through all the sequences. I hope that is what we were looking for and I am really sorry for wasting your time. I know that the setting we changed in the via modprobe.conf file did the job, so it is not for long that we were sidetracked. Once again...... very sorry and
  9. No it did not work. I changed the modprobe.conf file successfully. (Although it had no effect on the response) I went into the bootloader and the local apic and apic is already disabled (not marked) I hope I understand correctly. So, I marked one, checked if it pings. Then I marked the other one, then checked if it pings. Unfortunately in all 3 cases I were in unsuccessful. I still get the same response from my ping, with a bit of a difference. It always marked every odd no. outreachable. Now it is every no. So, it does not seem it worked, but I am learning a lot about Linux. :) Thanx for hanging in!!!! Kowash
  10. Hi, and thanx again. ODD, you know what is odd. :) I always get odd things when it gets to pc's. Like no one ever gets the problems I get. But I am full of confidence. I know you will probably think I am stupid, missing it or just not up to it, but I really closed my antivirus package. I switched my Firewall of and ........ I still got the same response (no ping). In the past I used my laptop (now running linux) to connect with or without the firewall and or antivirus. People come to my house with their own pc's at least once week to connect to the internet. They connect without any problem. they ping my pc (winxp box) and they have no problem. Hope this information can help you, help me. I really don't know what to do next and I do appreciate you coming back to me although you must be enormously frustrated. Kowash
  11. I don't know. The only thing to closest relation to it is probably my Antivirus. Antivir. It has a on-access controll for internet and e-mail etc. I stopped it totally to test and it made no effect on the ping response. There is no firewall (that I know of) activated on the Linux box. Kowash
  12. Thanx again. There is deffinatively a change, but it is not resolved yet. I ticked all the boxes under icmp. The terminal window just replies to the ping with the following From 192.168.1.103 icmp seq=5 Destination Host unreachable. 192.168.1.103 is the linux pc that I am pinging from. It started with seq=5 and is going through all the numbers and is currently at 1275 and counting. Thanx a mil for your help Kowash
  13. Thanks ianw1974 I have all that stuff already in place. I can ping my linux pc from the WinXP pc effectively. I even browse the linux pc from the winxp pc. Unfortunately it will not ping from my linux pc. I do not know how to browse my Win XP pc from my Linux PC The Winxp pc is connected constantly to the internet (wi-fi) Thanks for the help. kowash

  16. Thank you very much No problem. I just wanted to make sure I do understand you correct. Once again, just to make sure I am still with you. It is the IP of the TCP/IP settings. The Windows XP pc 192.168.1.101 The Mandrake 10.1 pc 192.168.1.103 Preferred DNS 196.25.1.11 on both pcs. I have wireless internet set up on the same lan that connects via my 8port switch to my Server PC. The ip must be static in order for the server to connect to the antena. Kowash
  17. Sorry, Tried to even switch off the Firewall totally on both sides. This had no effect. There is still no response I hope I understand correctly about the MASK. Subnet mask. Are these the same thing????? Both subnet masks are 255.255.255.0 Thanx again for all the responses Kowash
  18. Thanx a lot for your quick reply. It's awesome if there is still intelligent people that want to help the weak! Another problem evolved out of this answer. for some reason I am not getting a reply from my Winxp pc. It does not ping out or give a bad reply, it gives noooooo response at all. I have tried both the terminals and there is no reply. Thanx again for your reply. Kowash
  19. I know that you have to ping from a console. What I do not know, is how do you use run command to ping another pc? The other pc is loaded with windows. Kowash
  20. I would like to say that it worked for me, but it did not. My server (one connected to the Internet) is running Winxp. I have been able to set up the ethernet connection. When I go into the networking monitor I can click on connect ethernet although it is already connect (send and receive data), it starts connecting to the internet, get connected and after about 30 seconds it disconnects. I am a newbie and I have read a lot of info and for some reason are not getting it rite. (Probably a bit slow but I have a lot of patience) Kowash
