Okkkk I got past that error by just downloading Konstruct again and extracting it over the top of the old one. I do cd meta/kde;make install and off it goes, but then it hits this error:
checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.3) (library qt-mt) not found. Please check your installation! For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log. Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support! make[3]: *** [configure-work/arts-1.4.1/configure] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/edd/konstruct/libs/arts' make[2]: *** [dep-../../libs/arts] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/edd/konstruct/kde/kdelibs' make[1]: *** [dep-../../kde/kdelibs] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/edd/konstruct/kde/kdebase' make: *** [dep-../../kde/kdebase] Error 2
Anyone got any ideas? I have installed Qt but I still get this error.

I got a copy of KDE 3.4 on a DVD with Linux Format magazine so I thought I would upgrade. It was going fine but then, the power cut.. so the computer turned off in the middle of the install. When I try running Konstruct again ( cd meta/kde;make install) I get this error:
checking for kde-config... /root/kde3.4/bin/kde-config ./configure: line 2269: /root/kde3.4/bin/kde-config: No such file or directory configure: error: /root/kde3.4/bin/kde-config --prefix outputed the non existant prefix '' for kdelibs. This means it has been moved since you installed it. This won't work. Please recompile kdelibs for the new prefix. make[1]: *** [configure-work/kdebase-3.4.0/configure] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/edd/konstruct/kde/kdebase' make: *** [dep-../../kde/kdebase] Error 2
I know what it is asking - recompile kdelibs - but how should I do it so I can get upgraded.
Thanks a lot!

The battery in my laptop, under windows, lasts for around an hour and a half. Under linux it manages less than half an hour. I mean generally speaking I am plugged in most of the time but there are times when I need to unplug and I get less than half hour with it unplugged. Is linux just generally really harsh on the battery or is there some thing not playing ball? I've noticed that if I leave the laptop unplugged with no action for around 10 minutes it powers off. And when I say power off I don't mean shut down, it literally just cuts out.
Hope someone can give me a hand with this.
Thanks a lot

http://www.sadikhov.com/forum/Combining-Iso-Files_28648.html
I ent too sure if that would be the best way, but it may be worth a look.
-
I doubt you could, unless there is a way of physically combining the 6 ISO's but I would have thought that could be risky? Dunno, try a Google search for combining ISO's? Either that, or you could actually download the DVD ISO.
-
I switched back to KDE, did what you said and the fonts seem far better. I think I am gonna stick with KDE anyway cus Gnome seems a touch volatile on my laptop :(
Thanks for the help :)
-
I tried what you said about the TrueType fonts (changed to them) but the fonts (system wide, not just on the net) still look horrible and pixelated. Any other ideas?
-
My fonts after upgrading to LE2005 are really ugly. They're extremely pixelated and aren't very nice to use. I noticed a thread where someone's fonts looked like this:
http://img267.echo.cx/img267/1916/screenshot39xd.png
To be honest, that is just how I would like to get my fonts to be like. I am running Gnome, but the fonts are bad in KDE as well (if that is of any significance).
Thanks a lot :)

Thanks Ian, I did that, got it work, rebooted a couple of times and it all SEEMS to be ok so far. I have another Q but it ent for this forum. I'll pop this as solved ::) thanks :)
-
Okkk I have downloaded and installed version 2005 from the DVD. My laptop will boot into Linux, but once the KDE splash screen disappears, the system freezes up after a few seconds and I have to turn my laptop off by holding the power button. You said I needed to update my Kernel, and I reckon that is why. But how can I update my Kernel if it keeps freezing?
Thanks :)
-
Thanks for the link, I have asked a Q in there on how to sort my problem :)
-
i have the exact same problem, how do I update the packages from the DVD installer? I can't do it through control centre because it refuses to load!
-
If I downloaded the 2005 DVD ISO and installed that, do you think that would work? I mean I wouldn't lose any files or anything?
-
Ok I moved it all out and tried again. The software thing will not load - nor will the control panel, software installation, uninstallation etc.If I run urpmi.removemedia -a I get the error:
[root@localhost edd]# urpmi.removemedia -a Can't locate URPM.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.4 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.3 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.1 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/urpm.pm line 16. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/sbin/urpmi.removemedia line 24.
And this error when I try adding more URPMI thingies:
[root@localhost edd]# urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.clinet.fi/pub/mirrors/Mandrake-linux/official/2005/i586/media/contrib with media_info/hdlist.cz Can't locate URPM.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.4 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.3 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.1 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/urpm.pm line 16. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/sbin/urpmi.addmedia line 24.
Is there anything i can do? I mean at worst, can I try reverse back to 10.1?
-
It still gave me the same error. I moved hdlist.updates.cz and synthesis.hdlist.updates.cz out of the folder, before retrying. What else can I try?
-
The software media manager won't load, I click it, and the bar appears on the panel, it says it is loading, then it just dissappears and doesn't load. Is there anyway I can clear sources from the terminal or something?
-
Well I thought I had it all downloaded. I tried to run it again, to make sure and I got this error:
[root@localhost edd]# urpmi.addmedia jpackage ftp://ftp.clinet.fi/pub/mirrors/Mandrake-linux/official/2005/i586/media/jpackage with media_info/hdlist.cz Can't locate URPM.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.4 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.3 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.1 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/urpm.pm line 16. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/sbin/urpmi.addmedia line 24.
I get the same error multiple times when I enter a block of commands from the easy-URPMI. I tried doing "urpmi.removemedia -a" but I got:
[root@localhost edd]# urpmi.removemedia -a Can't locate URPM.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.4 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.3 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.1 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/urpm.pm line 16. Any ideas?

I did all the easy-URPMI business, and it all downloaded fine, but when I ran "urpmi --auto-select --auto" It went and then got this error at the end:
Installation failed: libXfixes.so.3 is needed by libgtk+2.0_0-devel-2.6.4-2mdk devel(libXfixes) is needed by libgtk+2.0_0-devel-2.6.4-2mdk rpm >= 4.2.3-7mdk is needed by perl-URPM-1.11-1mdk libXfixes.so.3 is needed by libgtk+-x11-2.0_0-2.6.4-2mdk rpm >= 4.2.3-9mdk is needed by rpmtools-5.0.20-1mdk libXfixes.so.3 is needed by gtk+2.0-2.6.4-2mdk 3 installation transactions failed: file /usr/X11R6/bin/xauth from install of xorg-x11-xauth-6.8.2-7.1.102mdk conflicts with file from package xorg-x11-6.7.0-4.3.101mdk xorg-x11-xauth is needed by xorg-x11-6.8.2-7.1.102mdk /usr/X11R6/bin/xauth is needed by (installed) mkxauth-1.7-8mdk libXfixes.so.3 is needed by libgtk+2.0_0-devel-2.6.4-2mdk devel(libXfixes) is needed by libgtk+2.0_0-devel-2.6.4-2mdk rpm >= 4.2.3-7mdk is needed by perl-URPM-1.11-1mdk libXfixes.so.3 is needed by libgtk+-x11-2.0_0-2.6.4-2mdk rpm >= 4.2.3-9mdk is needed by rpmtools-5.0.20-1mdk libXfixes.so.3 is needed by gtk+2.0-2.6.4-2mdk
What would be the best way to combat this problem? Just go through and install each one individually or is there a "proper" way of doing it?
Thanks!

So if I run the URPMI thingy on this site, allow it to install everything - then I can just log back onto Linux and sort the rest out? I mean, should I just update first using URPMI and then sort it all afterwards?
-
First, install the kernel 2.6.11-6, as LE2005 needs this, and can get issues with remaining on 2.6.8 kernel. Then after this suggest you do the following as root (su and supply root password):
updatedb
slocate rpmnew
you'll prob need to replace a few of these files, but never replace group.conf with group.conf.rpmnew else you'll have probs! I did it once, but lucky I had a copy taken before I did it. Mostly, they will be related to kdmrc.conf, kdeglobals.conf, nsswitch.conf and a few others.
I am thinking about upgrading to 2005, but I am unsure of this step. Firstly, will the updated Kernel be in the RPM drake to install? And I don't get the part about replacing files fter running that rpmnew command. I just want to make sure I know what to do before I upgrade! Thanks :)
-
You say you can just change the mirrors to 2005 to update 10.1 > 2005 - But isn't 2005 a paid version? I mean how come you can seemingly upgrade for free?

I can not send files over DCC to people over IRC using X-chat. I have tried ticking the box to say get IP from the server but that didn't make a difference.
What happens:
I send the file, it says "Waiting" and the person the other end cannot accept the file
BUT I can RECIEVE files from people.
What is going on?

The amarok script did the the trick :) thanks :)

I am looking for a Linux convertor to convert all my WMA's to MP3. I did find a script that did do it, but it renamed my fies like so:
01. State Of The Union was renamed to 01_state_of_the_union.mp3
So it wasn't exactly convenient when I have a lot of files to convert. Can anyone point me in the direction of a convertor that keeps file names the same etc?
Thanks :)!

Tried the urpmi thing, as you said. Installed qt and qt-devel but still have the same problem. What else could be causing this?
