  1. I'm off to the Ubuntu camp, iv'e tried the live cd and it looks very nice, to say the least. It's a shame that the Bewan modem doesn't work even thou it's in the HCL. Also i assume club members need to pay to join..... Thanks for your help M8, much appreciated. :D regards Mo
  2. Thanks a lot, that did the trick
  3. ok, from above comments it looks like i made a mistake and downloaded the wrong version (i'm new to this..) I have downloaded and installed a jre in an rpm package and followed the instructions as best i could. Now according to the documentation for jmsn i need to type java -j jmsn.jar to run the program all i get is java command not found.. Do you think i might have done something wrong in the installation as i see a folder called java in user directory. Thanks Mo
  4. [root@localhost mohammed]# urpmf libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 Note: since no media searched uses hdlists, urpmf was unable to return any result You may want to use --name to search for package names. [root@localhost mohammed]# rpm -q $(urpmf libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3) --name: unknown option
  5. i tried that (typed urpmi libstdc++) but it says "everything installed" when i try to run the .bin file i still receive the same error.... Any other ideas?
  6. i downloaded the Java Runtime Environment (.bin file) and tried installing but get following error [mohammed@localhost mohammed]$ ./j2eesdk-1_4_01_2005Q1-linux.bin* ./j2eesdk-1_4_01_2005Q1-linux.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Does anyone know how i might resolve this?? [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  7. hello, I'm new to Linux and iv'e seen a POS system which i think i might be able to use for my computer shop, it's called EuroPOS. I would like to try it out on my Mandriva machine. The downloadable files are available in SOURCE CODE as europos-5.3-source.tgz how do i go about installing this (and other pieces of )software?? Regards MO
  8. tried that but didn't find anything on the Mandriva dvd. Any further suggestions??
  9. ok, Installed the kernel sources in the releven directory i.e. /usr/src/linux checked the Makefile in unicorn_pci and unicorn_usb couldn't find KERNELDIR= but did find KERNEL_SOURCES pointing to the directory described above. i tried to go into the unicorn_pci directory and typed make but get an error 2, no rules to make target. whats the next step, also do i need to install anything else for PPPoA to work??
  10. i untarred (not sure if thats the correct word) :D the files in a temp folder and located the directories unicorn_atm and unicorn_usb (no unicorn_bus though) as well as some others such as unicorn_pci etc each of which has a .c file (i.e. source code) not really sure how i should proceed specifically since i need to use PPOA and the section where it says don't really understand the way source code is compiled in Linux, will probably need to read up on it. doesn't make much sense.Hope you can help.. Thanks Mo
  11. Leo, Thanks for that, i'm going to have a go this evening. Will get back to you soon. Mo
  12. i only purchased it after checking it on the Hardware Compatiability List (HCL), also it's the recommended modem for smoothwall, so i thought it should work ok with Mandriva. I'll play around it for a while and see how it goes. Thanks Mohammed
  13. The Bewan is actually an internal PCI Modem. Mohammed
