  1. The dkms service shows to be running. when I type urpmi dkms, it says everything is installed already. what I am trying to do is install this file: ipw2200-dkms-0.15-1mdk.noarch but when I type "urpmi ipw2200-dkms-0.15-1mdk.noarch", it gives an error saying a package required can't be installed and if I wish to continue. When I type "Y", it goes back to the prompt. Other thing I noticed is that the commands iwlist scan, iwconfig and ifconfig work sometimes and not otherwise even after loading the firmware. For example, with iwlist scan I got the list of all the wireless networks near me but when I typed it again after a few minutes, it didn't give any list and showed and error against my wireless card saying it was an input/output error. I hope I have provided enough details to analyse the problem. I am still seeking help on the booting problem. Thanks.

  2. Install dkms package? My experience is that LE2005 installs the dkms service as default, but 10.1 does not.

doesn't work:(. the booting is also taking too much time when it's starting network services after firewire. i installed both dkms-2.0.0-5mdk.src from the internet and the dkms(with noarch) from the CD. what mistake m i making or what more do i need to do? i m new to troubleshooting linux and otherwise too. pls help.

  3. Hi folks. I hope the problem I have is simple for most of you to solve. I have an intel pro wireless 2200 b/g card and I somewhoe made it work by installing the ipw2200-dkms-0.15-1mdk.noarch.rpm and the firmware in Mandriva 200d LE. But I have installed Mandrake 10.1 Official and trying to install the same rpm. It said it did not have dependencies and gave an error saying"it requires dkms" or something. I installed the kernel source (which, if I am right, is in the 3rd CD), but still it gives the same error. Please help me solve this. The other problem I have is that the booting gets stuck when it has already loaded the firewire thing and OKed it. It gets stuck for about 2 mins or more which is very annoying. Please help if you know what the problem is. Thanks.

  4. Hi. I got connected yesterday just after posting here, but unfortunately I am in the same old desparate condition again. I don't know what new things I did because I am sure I did nothing new, but I got connected to a network which doesn't have a wpa encryption and when I tried to create a new profile, that new profile didn't work and I got no connection. But, with that new profile created, when I switched back to the old one (default), I couldn't connect. I don't know why but the "wireless" configuration in my control center flashes for a second and then returns to the main screen without opening. This was not the case when I could connect for the first time. Please let me know what could be the error and plus, I inted o connect on a network which will be having a wpa encryption, so please tell me if I should switch to any other version like mandrake 10.1 official or something. Is it a more stable version than Mandriva 2005? Why is this edition called a "limited" version? Thanks for responding promptly and I seek further help:)...

  5. Hi everyone. I am posting the same problem again as I gave up before two months after trying to make my intel centrino toshiba laptop's wireless 2200 b/g card on mandriva 2005 LE. I would greatly appreciate if someone can walk me through the configuration. I have a toshiba satellite m35-s320 centrino laptop which says that it has integrated intel pro/wireless 2100 802.11g network connection on a label on the laptop but when I try to install the drivers for the first time, it always takes the drivers of 2200 b/g. I have tried from installation guides and used the firmware and ndiswrapper and everything i know of but tragically it never worked. But I am still ready to do it all over again if someone is ready to offer help regarding this. desparately seeking the solution...

  6. hi. i have installed 2005 LE and have problems with wireless. I am not as advanced as the initiator of this thread. i installed ndiswrapper and when it asked for windows drivers i provided only .inf file. in addition i installed the firmware and ipw2200 drivers too but it doesnt seem to work for me. i have wpa-psk and tkip too. have downloaded wpa_supplicant but dunno how to go further. eager for ur replies and help. thanks.

  7. i installed the mandriva 2005 limited edition and while configuring the wireless it did ask me wif i wanted wpa enabled and i clisked on yes. I configured my wireless through ndiswrapper which is an inbuilt facility in this version. But i don't know what to do after that with ndiswrapper. i also installed the ipw2200 drivers and the firmware and hotplugging and all after which it should have atleast shown me the available wireless networks, but in this version, it doesn't. it did show me the wireless networks in mandrake 10.1 community version and it also got connected to the one which did not have encryption. but now, in this version it is a different story. someone suggested to install wpa_supplicant package which i don't know how to. i downloaded the package but i don't know what should be the content of .config file. i tried making a .config file after reading the readme file but it doesn't work. i would rather prefer to connect wireless through the installation of ipw2200, which i have already done but it doesn't show or detect any network. when i do dhclient, it just keeps on saying dhcpdiscover but finally ends up not having any dhcp offers. please help and guide me in the right direction. lots of thanks.

  8. i guess i can connect to Access Points which do not have any kind of encryption key involved. as i noticed it shows that i was connected to a free network but i couldn't open any page in mozilla. the signal strength was 40/100. but i want to get connected to my n/w which has wpa encryption and tkip protocol. as soon as i switch to this n/w i get disconnected and then never connect to any n/w. are there different settings for wpa encryption? please let me know...

  9. Hi everyone. I am getting an error as follows:

<0> kernel panic : fatal exception in interrupt

    In interrupt handler -not syncing

I don't know how I got this error because I have been trying to configure my intel wireless 22 b/g card on my laptop (toshiba centrino) and that's it. I have logged in windows and linux many times and have been doing it almost daily. I just do not know how I got this error. because of this, linux doesn't boot now and gets stuck on the above message. This is an additional problem as I was already facing a hell lot of them regarding wireless. Any help for solving this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a nice day!

  10. Experts :D , please help me upgrading my mandrake 10.1 community to mandrake latest and also please tell me what kde 3.4 is. I have kde 3.2. I want to intsall these upgrades because I am hoping that will somehow help my wireless problem which I keep posting in the laptop section but haven't got it solved yet. Please guide me how to get the rpms for the latest version and how to upgrade the kernel as well as KDE? Please overlook my ignorance. Thanks.

Hi all. As it can be read from the topic's title, I can't get an IP address and after a little work I have been able to find out that the network is always down even though I type ifup eth2 ( my wireless ). I am pasting everything that can help you to understand what's wrong in my configuration. I read somehwre on this forum that one has to change the DNS address in some file which has the default address of the router. I don't know what that means and how I find out the new address. I also remember some ipv6 problem which was mentiotned by some expert in response to similar ifup eth2 not working problem in this forum. I am new to linux and I really don't know how to go about all this. I really need to have wirless in my laptop for my research work. Please help me. I am pasting the outputs of various commnads as the following:

  12. Hi everyone! I have a good news as well as bad news. I have been struggling to find a nice guide to make intel wireless drivers work on a toshiba satellite centrino laptop and finally I have been able to install and configure them. But now the problem is that when I type ifup eth2(my wirless card), it tries to determine an ip address for some seconds but then fails everytime. So, technically I am still living on the same island of problem. When I type iwlist scan, I get a list of all the access points in range but my laptop deosnt connect by default to anyone ( as someo of them don't require a key). I wanted to confirm if I have to enter the key (or password) in Hex format. I have already enetered it in hex form. Please help me with this and help me end my week long struggle...I will also post the guide I have which has error free drivers and firmware...Also, please let me know if mandrake 10.1 (community version) has some functionality like connecting to wireles through graphical mode as it is in windows.

  13. Hi Augustus. I am sorry to let you know that nothing is working for me. I installed ndiswrapper and when i type ndiswrapper -l it says that wnf51 something hardware is present and ndiswrapper installed. when i type iwconfig it again gives the same response in four lines which says the various interfaces, lo, eth0, eth1 and eth2 do not have wireless extentions. i found out wat extension means and then i tried passing paramateres like essid and all but with all parameters it shows an error that the function is not supported. for example fir essid it says "Set address"(8B1A) failed and that function is not supported. I browsed through the link that had sent me but i cannot move beyond iwconfig. also, i don't know what are the correct vlue of the wireless extentions(i just type "any" for all of them). as far as the firmware goes, as i read in one of the guides, it asked me to load those files in lib/hotplug/firmware and i copied all the six files of fw along woth the license in it. i typed locate ipw2200-fw but it did not show anything. when i type modprobe iow2200 it doesnt who nething. it just comes up with the prompt. i don't know or understand what command i hgave to type to connect to wireless and what will happen afterwards. i don't know how to connect either because the graphical as well as text drakconnects are useless for me. with them i have the same problem as i mentioned in my last message. this is getting on my nerves...:)). please help...

  14. Hi. Thanks for your suggestions. As a matter of fact, I am having fat32 partitions already. But I wanted to run or say access an application which can be installed only in linux. That application is installed and running in my linux but I wanted to run it in windows thinking installing samba would solve my problem. I hope my problem is clearer now. Please let me know if you have something in mind for this. Thanks.

  15. lspci.txtHi. Thanks for reviewing my message and suggesting the solutions. Well, I have been trying to install the drivers in both the ways for some days now. I downloaded the drivers for my wireless card and tried installing it but in vain. Something strange is that Mandrake 10.1 does have ipw2200 in its module list when I try to configure it through drakconf. If I recall right except for the first time when I ran drakconf, I have never been shown ipw2200 as a default option along with the option of choosing the drivers manually. Now whenever I try installing it it always shows the only option of choosing the drivers manually from a list and there is this module ipw2200. But when I select this module and move on, for a second a window pops up showing it is installing the driver but then suddenly it again takes me back to selecting the driver. To get rid of this thing I installed driverloader, ndiswrapper, even recompiled my kernel(I am not very knowledgeable in this, I just ran the command make in the kernel source directory as I was asked to while installing ndiswrapper). Even after installing ndiswrapper, when I run " iwconfig", I don't get wlan0 as an interface. I get four interfaces, lo, eth0,eth1 and sit0. I don't know if any of them is equivalent to wlan0. I also ran ndiswrapper -m and rebooted my system, but again, no good news. I am attaching the list I got after typing lspci -v as a file for your review. I don't understand why I am facing these problems even though I do everything just right and according to the installation guides. Even my modem doesn't work. It is a modem from Agere and I guess its an AMR. I made a new dial-up connection but when I try connecting through it, it always says the modem is busy. This has happened with all versions of linux I have used which include red hat 7-fedora and mandrake 9.2-10.1. Please help me with these issues. Thanks.
  16. Hi folks. I am new to linux. Not altogether new but new in the sense that I have never configured things in linux except using its graphical interface. I have a Toshiba centrino laptop which has an Intel wireless card (proset 2200 b/g) and I installed Mandrake linux 10.1 (community version) on it. I downloaded the drivers for this card from intel's site and even tried installing it, but I faced some problems which I can't even understand. It is getting a little frustrating now... I also want to configure samba on it and I want to do it assuming that if samba is configured on my laptop, I will be able to access linux from windows on the same hard drive. Please let me know if I am wrong in thinking this and if I am not, please guide me about it. My priority right now is installing and configuring the wireless card in linux. I request you guys to help me with a straightforward guide to do this. It would be even greater if someone having a toshiba centrino laptop and mandrake 10.1 installed on it can come up with the solution of my problem. I would greatly appreciate the help. Please help as soon as possible. Wish you all a very good day!
