  1. Well it seems that 5.2.9 is working now. I did an Automatic update from Transgaming. and it seemed to fix any issue that was there
  2. Hello, I'm running Mplayer and Mplayer-Plugin on my Mandriva 2007 PowerPack system, I also have the w32 Codecs All Package dated from 2006/10/22. When I attempt to run Quicktime Videos from Apple's movie trailer. it will play and show me the pictures but there will be no sound. I went to the Mplayer Plugin website and ran the tests and they all have the same issue. it will show me the picture but no sound. Any suggestions. Thanks
  3. How do I do that? I know how to burn the cd/dvd do I put all of the RPMs in the same folder? Don't I have to create a file to let MCC know what is in there? I'm still new at all of this.
  4. Hi, How would I go about to create a custom RPM cd or dvd with RPM files in it, so that it would be reconized by URMPI, ( The package database) I'm using Mandriva 2007 PowerPack
  5. I'm using Mandriva 2007 PowerPack, and I've configured urpmi, and I can install other packages just fine. I'm woundering if when I install via the ftp sites configured in urmpi does it download it to my computer? And if so where. I'd like to know so that I can copy them to a cd or dvd so that I can run the updates with out using the net all the time, just in case I have to reinstall on my laptop and don't have access to the net. Thanks
  6. I'm updating it via Manual download with the "cedega-engine-5.2.9-local-update.i386.cpkg" and I use the install local update option. Should I be using the Mandriva Tools? If so how would I do that?
  7. Hello all, I have the Mandriva PowerPack 2007 edition and am using Cedega 5.2.6 that is included with it, and it seems to work just fine. I can play some games and install, no problems. But I did upgrade via the local update to update the cedega engine to 5.2.9. After that games would not install or the installer would not run at all. ie: Under 5.2.6 if I was going to install a game like Star Trek Elite force. I mount the cd and then load the AutoRun Program and the Elite force splash screen will come up asking if I want to run the installer or see the extras on the cd etc. Under 5.2.9 if I was to install the same game, the splash screen for the autorun will come up only for a few seconds and then disappear. I've tried it with the Commercial Nvidia Drivers that are supplied with Mandriva and I even updated the Nvidia Drivers still no solution. If I remove the 5.2.9 engine and just go back to the 5.2.6 the same problem occurs and I have to remove Cedega completly and start over again. If anyone has any suggestions that would be appricated. Mike
  8. I had a thought... I had updated my Kernel from 2.6.17-5mdv to 2.6.17-6mdv. And that actually seemd to help with the Word File association settings, where I now see it when I right click on it and select open with.. and the Word option is there, I select it and it will open up. Even when i double click on it, it will now open Word right away. Now if only I can get the exe files to work the same way
  9. I know that runnign the Install Windows Software option does work. however even when I do that and lets say install Office it installs just fine, but If I were to double click on a word file it will not open word, Mandriva will ask me to what program to use, and I always have to navigate to the Windows Installed Programs menu and select word. and even if I tell Mandriva to remember my choice for all files of this type, it will show me that it save the configuration but next time I try to open it, it does the exact same thing. With the games portion, Cedega does handle the games I realize but, I've tested the Crossover Beta 6 on my friends Suse machine and it will install and run games that Cedega can't. Plus I've found out as well that the games Cedega does support, Crossover Beta 6 handles it much better. It's just that with the problems I'm having in Crossover or even wine, other Linux Distros' handle it much better. I think if I just figured out the File Association Problem (even with just opening a word file to have it open word) I'll be happy, as I convinced my wife to move to linux (she hates Open Office) And I don't want to move to another Distro. Mandriva has things that I like about it. and I've had troubles setting up other distros
  10. Hello there, I have just purchased the new Mandriva 2007 PowerPack Linux and everything seems to work right, except I'm having problems with either Wine/Crossover Office 5.0.3 or the Beta 6 Version. They all seem to have the same issues. First Problem is that after I install it and attempt to run it, by > double clicking on an .exe file, mandriva will come up asking me which > program to use, and I select Install Windows Program selection and tell > it to remember my choice for other file types, and it will not remember > it. I know that at this point it would seem like a problem with > Mandriva's system, but when I go into configure crossover and select the > advanced option and turn on the option "Launch all .exe files using > Crossover" and apply it. and close out. I will then try to run an .exe > file by double clicking on it and the same things happen. When I go > back into the Advanced options the "Launch all .exe files using > Crossover" option is unselected. It seems also that Mandriva does not save your selection for file type associations > > The second problem is that it seems that the file associations aren't > working with other programs, when I try to open a file for a program > that is installed via crossover, ie. a Word Document in MS Word 2003, I > always have to select Word from the window that asks me what program to > use, and again when I tell it to remember my choice and it doesn't. > > The Third and Final problem (Mainly Beta 6 version) that I have found is that when I install > games such as war craft 3, star trek Elite Force (Quake 3 Engine). > Bridge Commander, It will install from the "install windows program" > option, but then when I go to play it, it asks me to insert the CD for > that game, which is already insterted and mounted, it just doesn't > recognize it. I even emailed Jermy White CEO of Codeweavers to let him know about it, and he responded with this: I'm sorry to hear about the issues with Mandriva; I'm especially sorry given that we're dropping official testing for Mandriva with 6.0. Mandriva has just gotten to be too different, and has too few users right now, for us to be able to keep up with it, I'm afraid. Any Help would be great. Thank You, I'm using KDE environment Mike
  11. Hey, I just figured it out tonight. I added the following lines in /etc/modprobe.conf options bt878 card= tuner=50 gbuffers=4 options bttv radio=0 card=10 tuner=50 gbuffers=4 I restarted Mandriva 2006 and then launched KDETv and scanned for US-Cable with NTSC and it found all of my channels.

    Mandriva 2006

Mandriva 2006 is a lot better then my prev 10.1. although just a few glitches about it though. My ipod is not Hot plugable. In order for my Firewire ipod to be reconized I have to install Mandriva with it connected, and then it shows a USB icon in the devices section for my ipod, but then it won't alow me to disconnect it properly, it tells me only root can. I boot into Root and I get the same message, as well I can't delete files out of it unless I go to /mnt/ipod go figure Also the joystick config util in the System sub-Menu will not load up, it will just show the joystick on the bottom panel like it's trying to load then just disappear. But other then that it's great.
  13. Hi, I have just purchased a Hauppauge WinTV Go plus using the bt878 chip. I am currently running the lastest Mandriva 2006 RC2, and I am unable to get the TV TUner card working. in my /etc/modprobe.conf file it has options bttv tuner=2 card=10 gbuffers=4, which should all be correct. When I open Kdetv or TV time it can not find the channels when I try to scan for them. I went to the area to set up the TV Tuner card, and tried US-Cable using NTSC it would do a scan and then say nothing is found. I tried the Canada-Cable cause that's where I'm from. it did nothing. I even down graded to 10.1 POwerpack and the same thing happened as well. The card works fine under WinXP, I even tried installing the Windows Drivers and Software for it using Cross over but when I went to run the program it could not find the device even though everything was installed. Can someone help me set it up in Mandriva 2006 for Canadian usage Cable? Thanks [moved from Hardware by spinynorman]
  14. After thinking about my original post, I tried a different approach to Find a new motherboard. I tried once again to under the Mandriva HArdware database =, but instead of looking under LE 2005, I kept the search confined to 10.1. I figured that if it is compatible with 10.1, that it should work with 2005. ANd there was only one that I was able to find on that database and in one of the stores in my town is the Asus P4S800-MX. SO I think I found my new motherboard. I just hope that my logic is correct about if it works in 10.1 it should work with 2005! Have a good One Folks

    Mandriva 2006

I would like to know if Mandriva took out the Graphical Joystick setup program from the KDE Control Centre? Or did they leave it in? According to KDE's website in the Peripherals section it tells us that you can configure Joystick's ( Like in SUSE, Linspire and many others) but I have yet to see that in Mandrake 10.1 and I don't remember seeing it in the LE2005. So please tell me that it is included in the 2006? Thanks
  16. IN the Next month or so, I'll be upgrading to Mandriva LE 2005, as well as my Motherboard. I have two in mind, but am unable to find it on the Mandriva Hardware database (they have a small selection) THe First is an Asus P4S800, and the Second is an MSI 651M-V. If anyone has any suggestions opn what board would be better, please let me know. Thanks
  17. Hey, I am currently using Mandriva 10.1 PowerPack, and Dual Booting WinXP. I am thinking about upgrading to Mandriva LE 2005, and finally Ditch WindowsXP. THe only thing that is stopping me is the ability to set up my joystick on the Gameport, I don't have a USB joystick, and this is a Throttle with a Joystick attached to it, made by SunCom, a SFS Flight Controller. IF anybody can give me the instructions, on how to set up a Gameport joystick I would be very happy. Currently I have a Creative Labs Soundblaster 128 sound card. And can it be done in the GUI, in a KDE Control Panel, or is it done via the terminal?
