  1. windowsXP. any mouse movement after restarting from XP moves the mouse pointer straaight up or down in the middle of the linlus screen. It also leaves a thin black line. Kristi asked for info from xorg.conf.

here is the data from /etc/X11/xorg.conf on the mouse

    Section "InputDevice"

    Identifier "Mouse1"

    Driver "mouse"

    Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"

    Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"

    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

    EndSection

    my mouse is:

    logitech coordless mouseman optical

is there a patch for this problem by any chance?

  2. lol.. ok will go back through the post to change it.. any initprobe in my posts have been changed to inittab but i can't change the ones in your posts. if there is a way for lme to change yours tell me and i will gladly do it. :P

here is the mouse stuf you asked for.

edit: i am cutting this out and starting a new post as this is new topic.

  3. hello all. got back from vegas last night. figured since i had such bad luck there i was due for some good luck here. lol redid kristi's instructions from scratch and walla!!! all went as she described except for the part :

edit: took out to clear up typo

when I rebooted i got all the normal stuff and a NVIDIA splash screen and everything came up/ If I was not supposed to enter the initdefault like that, please tell me quick. otherwise, I thiink it is done.

    :thanks:

Kristi, or anyone, if you say all is good I can mark this thread a success!!

edit: now i just wish there was a mouse patch to fix the mouse breaking when i do a re-start instead of a shutdown and reboot. oh well, can't have everything.

  4. what is command to log out of root? i have been just closing session

lol. I am guessing i messed something up trying to hurry.

    grep-2.5.1a-1mdk

    [root@70-33-9-251 largegroh]#

    kernel-source-2.6-2.6.11-6mdk

    [root@70-33-9-251 largegroh]#

i assume these are same so will move on

  6. yes it installed for me also but when it prints i get half lines(bottom half) sometimes and it is very slow. I am thinking that it loaded a generic driver. may be incorrect but not sure how to check.

edit: i am using md 2005 LE I am thinking that this is beyond me atm. same as installing nvidia drivers 77.14. I am guessing that I need much more learning before I can do these things.

  7. I have downloaded the 7174 NVIDIA drivers into my fat32 partition in /mnt/win_c

from root i have done the following:

    init 3

    urpmi binutils

    urpmi kernel-source

both work, with one already loaded

next i have tried to run the new driver install with all of the following:

(I know I am newb but am trying to follow post by Motts on nividia driver install)

    ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run

    ./mnt/win_c/,name of driver again>

I have moved to the directory /mnt/win_c/ and tried to just type the <drivername>.run

i am stumped. I know it must be something simple that I am not doing do to lack of knowledge but have run out of things to try. If I just need to go dig some more just tell me and I will quit asking. thx for any help or direction.

  8. know where I might find these? I checked the hp site and all they had was windows drivers. If I am out of luck can you suggest something other than buying a new printer? Real newbie here but learning fast.

edit; was not sure if this went in hardware for the printer or software because of the driver. sorry if i posted it in wrong category.

  9. it is asking me if I have write access (I can get to root in console and with su and PW) or enough space.. has lots of space. I am not sure what what to type or where to go to make sure I am at root.

in console i can get there with su but don't know how to get to the file. in the file i can make changes but don't seem to have access since there is much room. help, please.

  10. I am new to linlux and mandrake. I wish to try this fix as my cordless mouse is giving me fits. sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. works always in wondows and always works during bootup. once md is fully booted it may/may not work.

    how do i get to

/etc/X11/XF86Config file in the device section for the mouse

and i am assumming that once i get there i will see

    Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"

    and just change to

    Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"

thx for any info you send my way.

p.s. the biggest pain is that the wheel works for scrolling sometimes/not sometimes just like the mouse..not always at same time.

  11. Kristi, I found this in tips and tricks. https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=25045

ran startx twice, (it hung first time) and then mcc. got a popup that allowed me to set screen again and now boots fine. mouse does not always work but then....

wierd though how sometimes i boot linux and my mouse wheel will scroll page and other times it will not.

guess I will just thank the linux gods for small favors. got in again without re-install.. so far..lol

cannonfodder, I watched the boot and was reaching level 5 so am good there. thx though.
