  1. Hello, HudsonHawk.

    Have you tried anyone of my splash packs?

    https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=24870

    Perhaps one of them already fits your needs so that you don't have to make one yourself. But, even if you still want to do that, it's very easy.

    Please read this Howto first (only "lilo images" section):

    http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/BootSplashHowTo

    You should also download the lilo-*mdk.src.rpm from the ftp mirrors, and extract the lilo-graphic-pictures.tar.bz2. It's helpful for splash-making beginners. Just think the pics as examples or templates.

  2. Hello, ianalis.

    I'm not sure what you really want to do, do you want to make user's menu to be consistent with system menu? Or make the user have his/her own menu different to the system menu?

    If you want to do the previous, you may:

    1. Delete ~/.config, ~/.local, and ~/.menu-updates.stamp

    2. If you've set update-menus in ~/.bashrc or ~/.kde/Autostart/, delete them all.

    3. Keep ~/.menu, do not delete or rename it!

    Always configure and update the system menu from Mandrake Control Center. Now the user's menu should be consistent with system menu.

    If you want to do the latter, you don't have to delete ~/.config, ~/.local, and ~/.menu-updates.stamp. But remember to add update-menus in ~/.bashrc or ~/.kde/Autostart/. And always configure and update the menus from this user.

    *: If you use KDE, make a link of update-menus in ~/.kde/Autostart. If you use other DE/WM, edit ~/.bashrc and add update-menus.

  3. No, LE2005 is neither a Community edition nor an Official edition. It's a...

    ... Limited Edition! :P

    Community edition is a development release, but the LE2005 tree is in the /official branch of mirrors. It also has security & bug-fix updates, showing that it's a Official (but limited) product of Mandriva.

    Compared with previous releases:

    Before 9.2: cooker snapshot -> beta -> RC -> release

    10.0, 10.1: cooker snapshot -> beta -> RC -> Community -> Official

    LE2005: cooker snapshot -> beta -> RC -> Limited edition

    2006 & later: *

    *:well, this is interesting. Please read here...

    http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/twiki/bin/view/...ndrivaLinux2006

    Where did the snapshot, beta, and RC go?

  4. Hello,

    Use kwrite or other editor to open

    /usr/share/icons/THE_ICON_THEME_YOU_USE/index.desktop (or index.theme)

    find this line:

    SmallSizes=16

    and change it to

    SmallSizes=16,22

    also, you need to add "22x22/apps" in the

    "Directories=" section if it wasn't there.

    and save the file.

    Then go to KDE Control Center, Look'n feel, icons,

    set the size of small icons to 22(default is 16).

    Exit KDE and login again. Now the icons in kmenu will be larger.

    THE_ICON_THEME_YOU_USE means... the icon theme you use! :P

    The default icon theme of KDE in Mandriva is crystalsvg.

    If you're using an icon theme installed in your home directory, it's located at

    ~/.kde/share/icons/THE_ICON_THEME_YOU_USE/index.desktop (or index.theme)

  5. I've been googleing for weeks trying to get rid of the default lilo splash

    Thanks

    Glad it's useful for you.:) Thanks.

    One (hopefully) last version: I decided to get rid of the "Limited edition" words, and try if the stars from RC2/LE2005 background can make a nice picture. I also made terminal backgrounds for it.

  6. Cool, would like to install some of these - where do I put them?

    Hi, kompact.

    You can download the file and extract it. I wrote a simple readme for installing instructions(and credits). It requires overwriting some of the files, so you need to be root when you install them. If you meet any problem, just post here and I'll try helping you as best as I can.

  7. Hello,

    These're some splashes I've made after I saw the 10.2-RC2/LE2005 default background. They're derived and inspired from other people's work, as you can see. Originally I just want to replace the default pics with them, but I thought it might be nice to read about your opinions. This is my first time for making splash pics like this :)

    Enterprise:

    This is derived from(and also includes) the "Enterprise" theme by Brant Fitzsimmons from the bootsplash-themes rpm. I made the lilosplash, ksplash, and gnome-splash. The default.png is convert from nature.jpg in the Mandrake_desk rpm.

    LE2005:

    This is inspired from the background of 10.2-beta/RC1. I made the lilosplash, bootsplash. ksplash, gnome-splash and default.png. I also included another version of ksplash and gnome-splash which looked like the ones from 10.1.
