  1. I agree with Steve on the legality issue. Problem is that many politicians in Washington D.C. take contributions from and spend time on the "golf course" with lobbyists from such companies as AOL Time-Warner, Disney, Sony, etc. - companies with heavily vested interests with DRM. Until there is a solid ruling on the subject from SCOTUS, we won't know for certain, though.

  2. still not legitimate, just you're breaking a different agreement; in that case, the one that says you're not allowed to run OS X on anything but Apple hardware, regardless of whether you own a license. (No, I don't think they could make it stand up in court either, but it's there.)

It mentions "Apple Labeled" hardware. Some folks have reasoned that you could put an Apple sticker on the box ;)

This site has some interesting news about the emulator and the alleged code difference (or lack of difference). It may very well turn out to violate GPL. Also Apple may step in and quash it because they specifically encourage potential buyers to install Mac OS X with it - when Max OS X, at least according to their EULA, can only legally be installed on "Apple-labeled" computers only. One amusing poster here noted that perhaps one could just put an Apple sticker on a box to work around that (see the comments section of the article).

  4. You are welcome, Kristi.

Let me know if you find out anything in your travels about the scraper error. As to storage, I remember something about Fat32 not accepting files with sizes past 4 Gb. You might want to check into that. Other than that I have no idea about speed - sorry.

Edit: For the record, I found the reference:

    I was right about Fat32...

Also there is a good guide here (if a bit dated):

I'd be willing to bet the slowness is a port issue with certain ones not being open on Shorewall or whatever firewall you are using. Also make sure the ports are open on the hardware firewall as well, if any.

As to the scraper error, I sometimes get that too but so far ignoring it hasn't hurt anything. From what I can tell it just means it can't locate the files on your disk immediately for seeding (at least in my case). Someone else with more bittorrent experience may be able to help :)

    Hope this helps some!

  6. Just open the torrent file that you saved from the browser with the Azureus program (standard file->open). It is pretty simple and I think one of the best bittorrent programs out there.

As to Anglo-Saxon, you should read some of the poems - one of them talks about two forces arrayed on opposite sides of a swampy area taunting each other to get each other to try to come across and give up the terrain advantage. It is pretty amusing :)

Of course there are translations :) Seamus Heaney's (sp?) translation of Beowulf is very very nice.

  7. Frankly, this (mandrakeusers.org) seems a more friendly community to me at this point than the one in Mandrake Club, for what it is worth.

I really feel for you folks that run places like this - not only do you take the time to answer questions FOR FREE, but you put up with some people so abrasive that you could use them for grout cleaner. Thank you for sticking with it as long as you have.

If I ever complain here about help I have received assume that I have had a lobotomy and point me to the nearest medical personnel.

  8. Stolen from another forum... thought it might be appropriate levity here..

How many forum users does it take to change a lightbulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

1 to move it to the Lighting section

2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs

5 to flame the spell checkers

    3 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct

19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum

11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum

7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

  9. Neorxenawange - It is "Garden of Paradise" in Anglo-Saxon (the language of Beowulf and other poems). ;)

Yes, I double-majored in English and Computer Science undergrad - it's all about language :)

  10. I was taking some assembler course and we would do all these pages after pages of memory dumps (sys 11 calls I think).

My earliest is only peeks and pokes with Apple II programming - allowing you to do things like move the boot sector on a disk as a poor form of copy protection - heh.
