willisoften
Java is considered an easy way to teach students OOP. Personally I think that you write a heck of a lot of code to do comparitively little. Out of interest - is that an observation of Java or OO? Java, though I have limited experience of other OO languages, having looked briefly at ruby and python it seems to me that the bread and butter operations are much more compact or to use the technical term "lot less typing". We were introduced to C (procedural) in the first semester and it seems to me I got a lot more done with a lot less effort. Thats not comparing like with like though, just a personal unsubstantiated allegation!
