Guest agb
Hello All, I am looking for info how to install Oracle 8.1.7 on Mandrake linux 9.0... It's working fine with Mandrake 8.2 and in 8.0 Mandrake even introduced a special patch for glic that fix problem with Oracle Universal Installer. But looks like in Mandrake 9.0 it's broken once again. Installation can't even start. :( I tried to contact Mandrake directly as well as write to free forums there but without any luck - looks like now days you have to pay to get any support from them. Quite sad because I switched from RedHat Linux - and I like Mandrake installation. May be someone on this forum knows how to fix this problemwith Oracle 8.1.7 ? Regards, Alex P.S. I have to use this version of Oracle and can't go for Oracle 9.x...
Guest Maciek
Have you installed the old glibc like you said in older MDK? Do you have the required Java version (e.g. 1.1.8) installed and did you check all required env. variables? Does the installer segfaults? I wouldn't recommend running Oracle on non-certified platforms mainly because of support and performance issues. You may need to consider using a certified platform (such as RedHat). My RedHat 6.2 handles Ora 8.1.7 and 9iAS just fine, didn't have to perform any acrobatics with the install, as it is the case with Mandrake OS. But this is obviously not the answer :) By the way, why did you switch from RH to MDK as Oracle server?
Guest neilwightman
I have exactly the same problem. When I execute ./runInstaller the jre uses 100% cpu time and stays there forever. Its currently been running 6 hrs and still no splash screen :( I installed Oracle 8.1.7 on Mandrake 8.0 and apart from the Glibc patch, its running fine. I wanted to try Mandrake 9.0 and it installed and is running ok but I have no idea why Oracle fails to start. Have you managed to get it running yet? If not Ill try Oracle 9 tomorrow.
