ATI linux driver in Slackware

Did full install of Slackware 9.1 and wanted to install the ATI driver except when I tell it to install I get "Segmentation Error". What does that mean? I was using a guide which told me to install it with --nodeps and --force in case that makes any difference..

Slackware was running the X server but was doing it in framebuffer mode which as far as I know isn't using the card properly, plus the fact I got errors on startup..

Any help appreciated..

EDIT: I actually remembered that I had a problem with libnss3.so once and all I had to do was add the directory to ld.so.conf. I thought I could correct this the same way but when trying to install the rpm it still complains about not finding the files???
