Gayle
I recently bought a new pc: 2 GHz Intel Celeron processor 440 1 GB of DDR2 system memory 160 GB hard drive Intel 950 integrated video. It runs 2008.1 fine. I thought I would try 2009 on it. The Free DVD boots into the logon screen at 800x600. When I press enter to install- it goes into text mode. And then it eventually displays the message "Input not supported". I looked at the kernel messages and the installation is trying to install the desktop586 kernel. It also says that splash failed. I also downloaded the One edition and it has no problem booting or installing.
ianw1974
Have you tried the Mandriva One 2009 CD to see if it works? This will be a good test to see if it supports your system, and that we just have a problem with the installer on the Mandriva Free CD/DVD. Gayle
The One edition that worked was the 2009 one. I also tried installing from the 2009 dual-arch cd- same problem as the free dvd, I forgot the mention that I have a an Acer W191W widescreen monitor- native resolution 1440x900. Greg2
I have a an Acer W191W widescreen monitor I have an Acer X193w+, and when I was installing my 2009.0 system I received that same error "Input not supported". I turned the monitor off for a few seconds, then turned it back on and the input was good enough to finish the install. I'd suggest giving that a try. Gayle
Greg2, I tried your suggestion and it doesn't work. I'm still getting the text screen and "input not supported". I have to press the power button to get out of the install. I'm still trying to figure out why the install screen boots up at 800x600 and as soon as I press enter it goes into a text screen and hangs with "input not supported". ianw1974
Try doing a text installation, when the menu appears to boot Mandriva, I think you can press F3 or some other option that you might be able to modify the kernel line and add: text to the end of it. Unless, using F3 gives different options on how to do this. But check it and see if that helps you get through the installation process. Greg2
If it's not F3 it's F1 for more options (IIRC). Then you could try the vgalo, vgahi, or vga16 to get a gui install, before you try the text install method... unless you want to use the text install method. :)
Gayle
Finally got 2009 installed- the free DVD would only install in text mode. Thanks for the help, everyone! Hope I don't have to do this with 2009.1!
