Guest johnKFT
I recently installed a ppp dialer called Chestnut-dialer, which seems very similar to kppp but does not use kde. Trouble is every time I try to use it I get the above message. Kppp works fine as does wvdial, and chestnut-dialer claims not to need root access. I cannot get a reply from the makers. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be and how I can resolve it? I have various files chmodded in order to make wvdial work for a user. Wvdial works fine but with gtkdial frontend does not seem to handle dodgy connections very well, seeming unable to make up its mind sometimes whether it is connected or not. I thought I would have a backup ppp dialer standing by but do not want to use any kde stuff.
fdservices
Is /dev/modem the device used by kppp? You may have to create the link to the actual device for it to work correctly. Also better check that nothing else has locked the modem.
